so i actually looked at the shaft of my 20yo OEM irons and they are TT Gold Plus x100 - discontinued according to the internetz.. These are xstiff right? Weird I still hit 150 with the 7iron and i dont hit my driver all that far. Pretty sure the lofts are flatter compare to newer irons too.

Time to get some newer regular shafted irons.:x:

I took tomorrow off to play one of my favourite courses on earth, Copetown Woods. Tomorrow is their opening day, giggity. It's a 'links style' course with owners that put a lot of time and effort into making sure it's always in top-notch condition. In the years that I have played there, I have never seen it in anything but pristine shape.

Check out the last picture, it really gives an idea of the landscape.

Woode, you never cease to amaze me with the places you have available to play. They all just look fantastic. Have fun, shoot low.

Thanks. I'm lucky enough to live where I do. Although I can only play golf 7 or 8 months a year, there are literally 100 courses within an hour drive of me. They come in every price range and every style imaginable. I'm also lucky enough to have a boss that doesn't mind me taking days off to play.

Hey, I'm looking to get in to golf. Took some lessons year ago, haven't played since, does it matter much how good my clubs are at this point? I'm thinking of just getting some cheap clubs second hand for now, and then upgrading if I take the sport more seriously. Can anyone of you give me thoughts on the following please?

One

Two

Three

Four

two looks like a good set to start off with, $100 might be a little high but not too bad

I'd avoid one, the eye 2's aren't exactly the easiest clubs to hit

no you don't need to be playing nice expensive clubs especially if you don't know if you're going to stick with the game...i agree the set in the 2nd link is probably the best option

if you aren't on a tight budget and don't mind spending a little more you could find a nice used iron set that was made in the past 5 years, a couple year old driver and fairway wood, cheap putter and a couple wedges for $300-400

global golf carries a lot of used clubs from 2010 models to 10+ year old models as do sites like callaway preowned and taylormade preowned...i'm sure there are others but those are the ones i've used in the past

just took a quick look and tried to pick out non ancient stuff:

irons

driver

3-wood

pick out a wedge or 2, a putter and bag and you're set for ~$400

It's hard enough to find a decent website with reviews on a golf courses...

Your only chance is some muni that offers free golf on your bday in the event you sign-up for some promotion or package there.

FWIW, I've only known of one course in my whole life who has offered this and you had to sign-up for their web-mail service.

DFWers: Have you guys played Southern Oaks lately? Played there and the greens might be the worst greens I've ever played. It was more depressing how bad they were than disappointing.

Everyone: My club has a member/guest this weekend where the first available tee time this weekend was 5:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. I think that's kind of bush league. I mean it's like, welp, there goes 1/4 of my golfing for the month.

So does this win by Massero make him about as accomplished as Tiger by the same age?

Leading amateur and 13th place in the '09 Open at 16 years old
Youngest player to make the cut at the masters
Youngest player to win a European tour event
Won his second Euro tour event today (a few days short of 18 yrs old and younger than any first time winner was)

Watching the kid I don't think he has a particularly beautiful swing or anything amazing and flashy about his game either. He's just solid, with young nerves and ice in his veins.

Yeah either support your club by playing the tourney or almost every club I know of has some kind of deal with at least one other club in the area that you can go play.
