I'm the President of my local golf course and we will be having a benefit auction in April. We had one 2 years ago and it went way better than expected as we raised $28k. I live in a small community of 3k and its $475/membership and we only have around 50 singles so that $28k number was huge. I was wondering if you guys know of any national companies who would be receptive to donating items. Just putting it out there in case any of you guys had any ideas or maybe someone even works for a company who would give an item.

Thanks

Have your pro call the shop merchandise suppliers and see if they can donate goods or anything. Then check local businesses to see if they can donate some stuff or services. I'm sure others can make better suggestions on contacting larger companies.

struggled to break 90 today, more beers consumed than pars, more birdies than pars actually

learned to stop caring and just have fun, was a pretty enjoyable round

Hilarious occurrence in a casual game today. Greens are starting to go dormant and therefore increasing in speed tremendously. Hole was cut on a slope in a somewhat suspect place. Player had a 12 foot putt from dead below the hole so it's basically straight. Ran his putt over the right edge of the hole coming to rest about 18 inches past. It stayed at rest for about a second before it came rolling backwards down the slope and barely toppled into the hole from the backside!

We'll be laughing about that one for a while.

yeah, getting close to having these at trails of frisco, the bermuda is getting really dry and slick and the ball just glides on it like ice, so tough to make putts now

Went to Harding Park today for Champions Tour Championship. We followed TA III and Watson for 5 holes or so then posted up behind 5th green so we could see drives on #4, and #6. Greens looked so nice. Every time I've played there the greens were shaggy.

TAIII has black crocheted/knitted headcovers w skulls and red/white tassels LOL. Some guy in gallery tried to say something to him while he was waiting to hit his shot from fairway. Like "oh yeah, nice little slider there. This is the garden spot" He kinda looked at the guy like pls stfu but I'm going to crack a smile anyways.

Hardly any crowds and it was easy to get around everywhere and see anyone we wanted.

A cool, blustery 45 degrees F or thereabouts this afternoon. It's also November. The season is pretty much over.

Despite those facts and heedless of the risk of being beaten senseless there were still several people on the range.

Anyone who wants to make a hole in one needs to come to FL and play with me. In the last 3 months, I made one, my stepdad made one, the guy I posted about itt made one, and then Saturday another guy made one. That's 4 in just over 3 months. Before those, the last one I had seen was one of my previous ones in 2002.

Say you were to give someone nine strokes. What would be a bigger advantage for the person receiving the strokes, 1 stroke on 9 holes, or half a stroke on 18 holes?

Wouldn't 18 half-strokes be way better? That way the opponent wins any halves. A whole stroke can turn a loss into a halve, but it's no better than a half stroke at turning a halve to a win. Match play is already tilted (at least relative to stroke play) a little bit toward the worse player--his blowup holes are no worse than the times you birdie and he pars. A player nine shots worse is probably pretty close to the better player, but has a couple of bad holes a round. So perhaps for thirteen holes a round the two players are even, and the other five the worse player stinks it up. And obviously, if the worse player can subtract half a stroke from thirteen halves, he'll do pretty well.

Getting one more game in for this season tomorrow at Piper's Heath. It's a really nice inland links/parkland kinda course with elevated greens and lots of collection areas. After this weekend, it's snow tires and touques for us Canadians, but I'm just happy to be playing again in November.

looks like a very nice course. I've gotta get out today or tomorrow for that last round of the year.

I have only played it once, but I have used their driving range a bunch of times. They have a beautiful facility and course, but it's far too expensive in the summer season. ~$105 after tax for 18 holes walking on a weekend is pure rape for a course that is good but not outstanding or particularly memorable.
Even the $59/walking rate that we're paying tomorrow is a bit overboard, but I don't mind.

I remember a few people saying they play Nike PD Soft balls... they are on sale at Dick's website for $9.97. Free shipping if you buy $50 worth. I just got 15 dozen for next season. Link to Dick's website (which I now know is NOT Dicks.com)

Does anyone have a decent different/fun five ball format? We are all decent golfers of about the same standard

15 dozen!! I could lose a ball a hole and still have leftover. Lol, I wish I could play that much golf in a year.

Got a wedge question:

My wife is buying me some new wedges for my birthday and she keeps getting treated like an idiot by douchebags who apparently don't want to sell golf clubs, so I turn to you....

Should I be buying the new, conforming grooves wedges, or the old ones? I play in one tournament per year (my local city tournament) and they don't seem to care, but I could see myself trying to qualify for some stuff within the next couple of years. My deal is I want to play the "proper" clubs. I want to avoid having these wedges in 3 years and I'm the only person on the planet with illegal clubs.

Also, on that same note, I bought some AP2s this summer. Are they legal?

:"For the 2010 PGA Tour season, all Tour players must already be playing wedges that conform to the new ruling. At the end of this year, all manufacturers must begin to produce only wedges that conform to the new ruling. By the year 2014, all USGA sanctioned amateur events will have to have the new ruling in place. And finally, by 2024, this rule change will affect all golfers everywhere; as any golfer who posts a score for handicap purposes will have to be using the new conforming wedges."

Doesn't seem like it really matters for now. I don't think I have ever used a wedge for 4 years before.

When I was in college doing one of my PGM internships, this club that I worked at had this really, really good junior player. I had forgotten all about him until today when I was running through Q-school scores. Apparently he kept getting better and turned professional. Top 20 in q-school so far.
