I'd read books 1 through 3 for sure. They are fantastic and there are lots of differences from the show that make the story actually better. 4 maybe if you're rabid about the fantasy world. 5 only if you're utterly fanatical and can't differentiate between reality and westeros.

i just got the books on tape (read by roy dotrice) and listened to them while at the gym, ez game

Ya'know I could probably have done that now that I train like such a pussy on all but sq/dl sessions which is like a combined ~60 minutes of my training week... but I was reading them when I actually tried every day.

MY HERO. Honestly I read so many books every month for work that I was not looking forward to reading these tomes. Feels too much like work. But an audiobook at the gym is a game changer. Excellent suggestion.

How's Roy Dotrice's performance?

Guys- serious problem here.

My 7 year old daughter refuses to jump into water without holding her nose. It's devastatingly embarrassing. I'm considering not allowing her out in public so she isn't scarred for life by the brutal mocking.

I'm a failure as a parent. Dad of the year achievement lost.

His reading is very good imo.

It's been so long since I read book 1-3, but I'm fairly confident the series is better than the books, insofar as you can compare the two. A ton of the unnecessary and boring stuff is cut out in the series. LESS IS MORE.
06-18-2015 , 07:14 PM
I don't think it's as easy as that. Some parts of the books are better, some of the show are better.

Nobody as to win or lose here.

Oh wait it's the internet never mind.

Agree kinda. I'd say series>book for all but book 3. For 1 and 2 the difference is marginal.

My condolences. Have you considered adoption?

She's only 7 - not all is lost yet.

I just turned on the US Open. It appears as if they decided to not use a real golf course this year.

Make her jump in while holding a kitten in either hand. Holding her nose will literally kill a kitten. Yourdaughter, not being a heartless monster, will do the right side.

Downside: You now have two more cats.
06-18-2015 , 09:36 PM
You could have her hold two gremlins, then you would have hundreds.

Weren't you just talking about controlling peer group? Get her away from the nose plugging miscreants, and get her in touch with the local swim team.

1. Stop letting her hang out with fauxb so she stops thinking it is an OK behavior.

2. Buy one of those old school diver's suits with the big metal helmets and little glass portholes. They are heavy and look goofy. Tell her she will either have to wear one of those anytime she is to go in the water OR she can stop holding her nose. Her choice. Good thing is if she chooses the suit:

-She will be building up her strength
-It will be hard for others to see who is actually in it reducing the possibility of others knowing it is in fact your kid (you can play it off as a neice).

Hell. Yes. TDs1 was a masterpiece. May be my favorite season of anything ever. I still remember downtown talking about it in here and I hadn't even heard of the show. Started watching and was insta-hooked after 5 minutes. Caught up to episode 3 in 3 hours.

1. Teach her to close her nasal passage with the "K", "T" or "P" sound (K as in stopping at the first letter in kick works best imo)
2. ???
3. Profit

Crash,
It is ok, I think I was gonna win anyways.

For example, I recently taught my kid to go to the bathroom (#1) in the backyard so I don't have to deal with clean up.
06-18-2015 , 11:00 PM
I thought the correct move was to just push your kid into the water when they're not expecting it, and when they survive they don't need to hold their nose anymore?

Seriously though, a long time ago I was in Vegas with my then girlfriend and a couple of her friends including 1 girl who was basically anorexic, and long story short I accidentally slapped the anorexic girl's ass thinking it was my wife's, and sensation and feeling of wrongness of hand on bone still disturbs me to this day.
