Eh it's really just the Departed minus an hour of Hollywood bloat, so kinda just depends if you're into that. If you liked Leo / Nicholson / Wahlberg / Scorsese etc then you will probably like Infernal Affairs less. Iirc I first saw Infernal Affairs before the Departed and was like "well k this is the same movie but slower and with unnecessary side plots". I'd think if you love the Departed and go back to watch IA you'd be like "k this is the same movie but with less awesome". So ymmv.

I really like some of Takeshi Kitano's movies about the japanese mafia. They're all pretty different.

"Brother" is one I really liked - and a pretty interesting take since it takes place in America. I was about to call it "relatively new" but it came out in 2000.

"Sonatine" is a sort of mob-related movie but it centers more about a group of japanese mobsters who **** off to a beach for a while to escape violence.

"Outrage" is a Kitano movie on my radar that I have not seen yet.

If you like Kitano in general, like I do, then I also recommend "Kikujiro" and "Getting Any". The former is about a really unsuitable old man befriending and taking care of a weird naive kid and the latter is just a very offbeat japanese sex comedy.
