I have had my Sennheiser hd600's for over 10 years now (since my days playing counter-strike) but i only just found out that to take full advantage of them i should use a headphone amp.

I only use them listening to music/movies through my computer. Would it be worth buying an amp (recommendations <$100?) or would buying a sound card for my pc be enough (Asus Xonar DSX)?

i love this headphone!Perfect mid and high reference sound. very little bass

Has anyone tried PSB's M4U-2 headphones?

they are supposed to be outstanding.

Sennheiser Momentum is really nice. Very light-weight, closed, and very good sound.

I think a USB DAC > sound card. DAC + amp and I think you'll notice the difference in quality.

i have some long flights coming up. are bose 15s the best for ANC? it just seems so wrong to buy bose. i took a look at the PSB M4U mentioned above but ended up on bose from a comment i saw.

also, how great are these types of headphones on flights? i really like the idea of putting them on and flicking the switch for a quieter cabin while i read - i know it won't work miracles but is it pretty awesome?

I know a few people have pointed out how overpriced Bose is for the quality, but if you're going to be flying, I've found the QC3 to be the absolute nuts and indispensable on international flights. The smaller, a bit more compact and the on-ear cup is really comfortable for long periods of time. Neutralizes the engine almost completely. Haven't had an extended test period for the 15s, but I have read that they sacrifice a bit of sound quality for even better noise canceling. Just depends on which is more important for you.

yeah thanks. i just did a bunch of reading, 15s are sounding really good to me.

i have HD555s for home use and another sennheiser pair for portable stuff, so these would purely be for flights, and i don't really listen to music on flights for whatever reason. also over ear seems superior to on ear for what i'm looking for.

i'm actually pretty damn excited about picking these up now.

Ya, I use the Schiit Audio Magni + Modi combo to drive my HD650's and they sound great.

Thanks, i read some reviews and it seems like the FiiO E10 would do a decent job for a low budget.

Sennheiser Momentum. It's Sennheiser's answer to stuff like Beats by Dre and Bose, the same kind of model, closed, over the ear, and light. They don't have active noise cancelling though.

Klipsch M40's do

i got some 15s from a guy who'd bought them a month ago and used them on a single flight for a few hours, was a pretty good price (£180 uk, they retail at £250-260).

have read a lot about momentums in the last few days and they sound pretty cool, but are not really what i'm looking for here it seems. i feel like those would be a home pair to replace my 555s if anything.

For the upkeep of expensive headphones, what do you guys use for cleaning/disinfectant?
09-20-2013 , 08:23 AM
expensive phone shouldn't need up keep really... do you sweat a lot?

all of my pairs, in ear and on ear, almost never need cleaning. If I do clean them I use a very mild soap/cleaner or simply a damp rag... mild.
09-20-2013 , 09:36 AM
I frequently lend mine to friends. I think the inside of the ear cups could use a clean from time to time. I was just curious if there was a specific cleaning product for high quality sound gear.
09-20-2013 , 11:57 AM
if leather... use Zanios.

if it's only Pleather/vinyl (like the majority), I don't think it really matters. or are you talking about disinfectant?
09-21-2013 , 12:53 PM
god these qc15s are insane lol. it's almost like a magic trick the first time you turn them on. i've blown two people away already today.

I was mainly referring to cleaning product, thanks for the recommendation. You were referring to the Zaino Z-10 right? (http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/...duct_Code=Z-10)

Can anyone recommend something for less than <$200 with a good base? Not going to use them for travel really, mainly just sitting on the PC when I'm playing (Average 9hr session)
I'm living in Ireland so I realize I'll be playing something for shipping.

Audio Technica ATH-M50
Views on these for my requirements?

http://www.thomann.de/ie/audio_technica_athm50.htm

The price on Thomann seems pretty good. It includes 3 year warranty also.
Can anyone recommend a better place to buy them?

Thanks in advance!

I've changed my mind to the Sennheiser HD 598. Their $200 on Amazon, anyone have any views on those?
10-22-2013 , 07:33 AM
by 'good bass' i'm assuming (perhaps unfairly) you mean 'over the top bass'. sennheiser's are generally pretty neutral. a google search for 'sennheiser hd598 bass' throws up a decent amount of discussion around the bass on these.

i've had a pair of sennheiser hd 497 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sennheiser-H...item3a812d28bc) for over ten years now. they sound pretty good, but i don't find them comfortable to listen to for extended periods of time. the ear cups are also getting a bit grimy although i know i can replace them if i want to.

im thinking of getting the audio technica ath m50 (http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica...chnica+ath-m50)

i'm curious if anyone knows how these rank in terms of comfort compared to the sennhesier's. i'm also curious to know if i will find a significant difference in sound quality. the ath m50 seem like a newer model. also, i listen to most of my music on MP3 Cd player at 320 bit rate. Am i even going to notice a difference if im not listening to flacs?

Just thought I'd throw some reviews out here since I've gone through a few pairs of headphones in the past year

Sennheiser Momentum
http://en-us.sennheiser.com/over-ear...omentum-stereo

Good headphone not great. At the price point they are selling at you aren't really getting that price point of sound. Still sound good, the mic and inline remote is a great feature. Easily best comfort and the best looking headphone I've ever owned, but after listening to them next to my Sennheiser HD595 I left the Momentum at home since I travel and only have limited space.

Hi-FiMan RE-262

http://www.amazon.com/HiFiMan-RE-262.../dp/B00669L9JA

Had these for two years now. Still in great condition for how much I travel considering I used them at the gym as well and always just shoved them in my pocket. Sound great on laptop and ipad, not so great on iphone. They really need a portable amp to get great sound out of them. Some of the best mids I've heard esp at the price point I had purchased them at(around $150). Extremely comfortable esp with the rubber double tip flange.

Hi-FiMan RE-600

http://hifiman.com/Products/?pid=157

http://www.head-fi.org/t/667685/hifiman-re-600-review

The newest earbuds Hi-FiMan offers. Was in Tokyo looking at earbuds, saw these in a display case, tried them and had an easy buy at $400. Easily the best sounding earphones I've heard. Very comfortable, no fatigue after listening to them, and incredibly detailed sound at all levels. Work great with my phone and even better with laptop.
