Hey guys,

Have read through a good bit of this thread and am debating what to get my brother for his work. He's in i-banking and spends ~90+ hours/week at his desk, listening to music. So I want to get him really nice earbuds (don't want headphones because anything bigger than earbuds is frowned upon for w/e reason).

I'm willing to spend up to $500. Sounds like people love the Shure 500's, but was wondering what else might make sense given just how often he's listening to music...thoughts?

If you can stretch your budget slightly, I'd go for these:-

the sony ones at best buy for 60 bucks have great ratings and wonderful bass. they fit over your ears and do a good job.

I'm looking for a good pair of headphones for when I play poker/relaxing/use for computer

I want over the head headphones, and for reference, something like Dre Beats fit really well on my head and are extremely comfortable, so something similar to that in terms of speaker/ear piece size. Even something like MSchu posted above with a flat speaker spot looks comfortable.

Looking to spend between 50-150ish, but obviously the cheaper the better.

Anyone have suggestions?

I have these and they stopped working (no sound coming out. Idk what's wrong with them exactly.) Does anyone know how or what type of place to repair them? I'm in the Atlanta area.

Favorite IEM's for under $40 or so?

I was looking through the head-fi IEM list, and was leaning towards the Vsonic GR-02's which were rated a 10/10 in value for the money.

I'm also somewhat interested in the BrainWavz R1 that were just released and on sale.

Have them. Worth every penny, especially if you travel frequently.

You won't listen to music the same way again.

Some flaws though:

A bit short on bass. While Beats by Dr. Dre are too bass-heavy, PXC-450s are a bit light on it. Fix this by getting a headphone amplifier. They're about $30 and add some great bass to your set.

They're very bulky. Don't expect to wear them around for outdoor use. They're a pain to carry around. If you wear them in public, you're asking to have them stolen.

They also are liable to just stop working. Sigh

Anyone have the FW's? Read reviews on them, but would like to hear more about them from someone who has them.

Seem to be fairly priced, however I've heard ppl say they look like Beats too much.

looking to get something for mostly travel, preferably wireless (bluetooth?) for use with phone for music and laptop/tablet for movies. sound quality isn't too much of a priority, rather portability (collapseable/folding would be handy, or in a case I suppose) and not too expensive.

any recommendations? pretty non-descript i imagine for this thread but i don't know anything about headphones

Gonna read up on this thread before I cave in and buy Bose again

Really hated the last headphones I bought (Image ONE Stereo Headphones by Klipsch) despite liking a soundsystem from the same brand

Got a great deal on some Soul headphones on ebay and thought I would post a note.

Last thing I was using was Beats in-ear buds. Sounded OK but can't stand having something in my ear canal, gives me the willies.

The Soul headphones appear to have good build quality, solid if a little heavy. They are good-looking and drew some attention. Not too much clamp pressure. They don't isolate you all that well from ambient noise, which I guess isn't the worst thing for poker headphones. They are very bass-biased, highs are well defined, sparkling, not harsh. Ergonomically and acoustically they are comfortable for long sessions. Electronic music sounds fantastic but rock sounds awful and I'm sure it is not possible to listen to classical or jazz with these. Vocals are lifeless and distant. Midrange in general is muffled and bass tends to overwhelm rock tracks. Which is fair enough, consider them optimized for use with an iPod, without an amp, for electronic music. And nothing more.

If you like electronic dance music, and desire to make a fashion statement, and can get a good deal on these, I would consider it an alternative to Beats. If these don't apply, keep looking.

OK now this is the king of the el cheapo headsets. Less than $40 on ebay. Very light. Lots of sound leakage. Not all that efficient, iPod has to be at 3/4 volume at least. Excellent mids and uppers, surprisingly good bass. Electronic music seems to have an somewhat of an upper-range bias but rock sounds great. Vocals are good. For the price, I wasn't expecting much.. but dang! Gets my vote for the best cheap 'phones.

The OP of this thread should be updated to include a head-fi.org link. Really the best place to do headphone research.

Np, head-fi forums pretty much THE place to go for headphone advice. Unbelievable how much info there is.

If anyone's looking for a pair of not overly expensive over-ear headphones, I can highly recommend the Creative Aurvana Live. Set me back about £45 in the UK, although I think they quite often turn up in America at the $50-60 mark.

The sound quality is pretty great, bass is punchy but doesn't dominate, and trebles and mids are lovely and clear. Plus, they're absurdly, absurdly comfortable. Often wear them for 5-6 hours straight at work, and no issues at all. Would highly recommend them if someone was looking for something to wear for long periods of time.

Main negative is the isolation - it's good enough for the office or the library (or the casino), but it's not good enough to block road noise, or train noise, or really anything too low-frequency. They don't seem to leak noise at all, though, and I listen quite load, so that's a plus. But because of the poor isolation, they're not really the best if you're planning to listen to lots of music on public transport.

so playing with roommate on room now, and i have adhd and get super distracted by every mouse click/sound it comes from his laptop

looking for a headphone that could cancel all noise, sound quality doesnt need to be top notch or anything, just needs to be quite confortable too

budget max is 50euros or so
but since i dont need vry good quality sound thats probs doable no?

The Beats headphones have exploded in my local poker room. At least one person at every table is wearing them, it seems like.
