cool thanks alot prob gonna get these. But are there any better types of over ear headphones for around the same price? Are these the best out there for 150?

The 'sick discount' on those refurbished beats is due to their ridiculous price, dont confuse it with value

I think you can much better with these Sennheisers for $85 (50% off)

Audio Audio Technica AD700s for $90

Treat yourself to something sweet with the money you save

Does anyone have experience with etymotic or westone earbuds ? Or custom fitting?

Hello there,

I have been looking for some good headphones to buy and i just found this twoplustwo thread. I have been reading on head-fi.org for some time now but the responses there really confused me and i thought i could get some more condensed opinions from people here, i need some advice on a full DAC / AMP (/headphones) setup.

I wanted a set of headphones for home use, i have earbuds for my ipod for on the go so i got that part taken care of. Because sound isolation is not neccesary i want to go for a set of open headphones. I have been to the local HiFi store to audition a few headphones already, but i went there with the idea of using my headphones as portables so had my ipod as a source. anyway i'll list what i thought about them here. Skip if not interested.

Spoiler:
-I listened to the Grado Sr60i and the Sr80i. They both sounded pretty good, but felt that my hiphop tracks lacked a bit in bass, very good for my rock songs though. the comfort of these was lacking quite a bit. (they are supraaural headphones.)
-I also listened to the beyer dynamic 770 and 880, Did not listen to these as long though, because they were not really good for portable use. Do not know what Ohms they were but judging from the fact that i had to turn up my ipod quite a bit i think they were too high impedance to be driven by it. You instantly noticed the isolation on the closed one, and the bass on these was pretty good as well. Other than that i felt there was not a huge difference with the grados (which is weird), but this is probably due to lack of amp. Honestly though i should probably try them out again, because i am having difficulty remembering the exact differences.

Also listened to some ultrasones but do not really remember anything about those. It was pretty cool to have a store with a good collection of headphones though. They also had a Stax setup there with the entry level Stax earspeakers, but it was not hooked up to the amp and i did not dare to plug them in myself.
Anyway after that i went to another store to try on some more headphones, i very briefly listened to the AKG K701 and the Sennheiser HD595 and HD650. Both of these were listened to from the shop setup and not the ipod ( i suspect the amping should be done right but i am not sure.), they sounded great all 3 of them, loved the K701 and HD650 the most out of all of them.

What i found from this is that i liked the mid-fi, cirumaural (over-ear), open headphones the most. These headphones mean i need to worry about the source and amplification as well. Because i need all that hardware for these headphones i want to get a great setup (for a good price if possible) when i am at it. From reading on head-fi i have decided i will go for the HD650 as my headphones.

I also need a DAC and an AMP, and i need suggestions that work the best for the HD650, because it is apparantly very picky with amping.

I thought about the E7/E9 combo but does this setup do the HD650 justice?

Any other Amp + dac setups around that kind of price point (~300 max for DAC+AMP) that are good for the HD650?

I have the E7, and for the price, think it's a pretty excellent little USB DAC.

My one major gripe: The volume controls are up and down buttons on the unit. I would much prefer a knob for easier adjustment.

I just meant that typically if something costs $300, refurbished from the company would be like $250. Having them be $150 is a good discount.

There are obviously better headphones for $150, but they're not Monster HDMI-capable overpriced at $150.

so yeah finally endeded up getting a solid pair:

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD5.../dp/B0001FTVDQ

However on my ****ty laptop ive noticed my sound card is really awful and the headphones can not play very loud. The quaility and comfort of the HD55s are amazing. They are for sure worth what i payed for at 109 on ebay. But i am insanely disapointed about how quite they are, i really do need a new sound card.

Suggestions for types of sound cards? I have no clue on the subject, throw me some suggestions budget 50<.

I've got the HD650s and a few others and I love them but its no joke about them needing some serious driving. Their strength is amazing detail but that doesn't come through easily and they can sound very dull without it.

Most DACs would be fine in my limited experience but the headphone amp is critical. Only way to find out is to try.

Hey everyone,

I'm a college student and for that reason have primarily used ear bud headphones for their portability. However, due to most pairs breaking in one way or another after 3-4 months I decided to buy some quality headphones. So I bought a pair of Grado SR60s. I love the headphones, but the problem is I rarely take them outside. Whether it's raining or if I just don't want to have to carry them with me all day, they tend to stay in my dorm room. And so I end up using my iPod headphones anyway.

My roommate recently got a pair of collapsible Sony noise cancelling headphones, so I started looking into collapsible headphones as a way to solve my portability issue. What I found were the Able Planet True Fidelity Noise Cancelling headphones (http://www.amazon.com/NC200B-Fidelit...pr_product_top).

The reviews seem solid, but I wonder if they'll still just end up sitting on my desk at home most of the time. If I were to get them I would try to sell my Grados to recover some of the cost.

If anyone has any thoughts on my situation or a review of the Able Planet headphones that'd be awesome.

I think I've just had too many negative experiences with ear buds to buy another pair. I haven't bought a $70 pair, so maybe those are constructed much better, but I'm still hesitant.

You mean you break them? Anything with small wires and small connectors will be fragile.
Your SR60s are susceptible to the wire breaking where it's soldered inside the earpiece.

If you mean sound quality the Yuin's sure impress me.
Did you read the review?

Usually it's an issue with one of the buds just cutting out. There's no noticeable mechanical damage, one bud just stops working.

Saw that Sennheiser HD595 High Grade Performance Premiere Headphones $120 on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B0001FTVE0

This is the lowest price on the Sennheiser HD595 I have seen. These are a pretty good set of headphones that many people have used for gaming (usually paired with the Astro Mixamp) as well as music, etc. Enjoy.

I just got the Monster Turbine Pro Copper ear buds thru Amazon for LESS than the Gold ones: $233. They retail for as much as $400 in some places....so far, so good - and it comes with an amazing array of extras, carrying cases, ear pieces, adapters, etc. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

I have had my Bose QC3 noise canceling set for about 3 years now, they were around 300 but well worth it IMO.

Hi all,

Sorry to be semi-grunching but 14 pages is alot to go through.

I'm after some over ear closed cup headphones, with maybe an emphasis on bass. My budget is ~$100 (£60). This will be my first set of quality headphones and i will mainly be using them for my mp3 player. Also aesthetics are quite important to me.

I've considered the 428s but i was put off when i heard the bass was weak.

Any opinions on the HD448s

I really like the look the look of the Urbanears, but have heard mixed reviews regarding the sound.

Suggestions please

thanks

It would be really nice if the first page of this thread could have some kind of cliffs regarding the best over-ear, in ear, noise canceling etc... head phone list... I realize best is subjective so like top 5 as noted in this thread.

I recently had my pair of Sennheiser over ears stolen, i dont remember the model number but they were really good for me.

What I want now is basically the best pair of noise canceling over ear head phones. I tried the Bose Quiet Comfort 15's at best buy and they were pretty awesome but I know Bose is generally very over rated and over priced. I don't particularly want to buy the Beats, they just seem too hyped up and marketed which in my opinion normally means they're not that good.

I looked online and read some reviews of the Denon noise canceling ones but most people said that the Bose were better at noise canceling though the Denons were better with sound.

The Sennheiser noise canceling got pretty meh reviews so I left them out.

If money is not an issue, which head phones should I buy that would block out the sound of bombs exploding next to me?

Edit--------

I was waiting for the Sleeks by 50 to come out, not cause I care about 50's endorsement or anything, but the headphones looked like top notch quality and CES + the lossless wireless hybrid is fricken amazing.

If money wasnt an issue I would recommend getting custom ear molds

Do any 2p2ers have experience with these?

Thanks but I'm looking for over the ear head phones. I have a pair of in ear head phones and they're cool and all but after a little while my inner ear gets itchy and feels weird...
