I currently running a pair of sennheiser HD555 with a asus xonar dx soundcard. How much do i need to invest in order to hear a significant improvement in sound quality?

So after buying the Beats by Dre and being dissapointed and returning them I think I'm going to try the Audio-Technica ATH-M50. What would you guys suggest for an amp for these? Or will they be fine unamped?

they'll still perform just dandy un-amped direct from most iPods, MP3 players and laptop computers

Definitely do not need an amp for the ATH-M50's.

I'd consider a lot of other options for the money. I'm not that impressed.

I also just got some of these MEElectronics M9 IEM's today:
.

For $17, they were rated as one of the best bang for the buck IEM's around.

Overall, they are really crisp and clean. The bass is tighter, but not as deep as the old JVC Marshmallows I had ($12). A good deal for the money. My biggest complaint is that the mids are very lacking. It's probably what makes them sound crisp, but a lot of guitars and acoustic instruments sound flat to me.

What would you reccommend? I'm really into Dubstep now so I'd like something with good bass but also good for other electro sounds.

To be fair, I haven't heard most of the bass-heavy headphones.

Here is a great thread on head-fi comparing a few of them though:

http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/...or-in-progress

Audio-technica ATH-M50
Shure SRH840
M-Audio Q40
GMP 8.35D

You could also look at the Sony MDR-XB700, which apparently is a bass monster, but not as clear as the rest of this bunch.

The other options seem to be all around 2x the price or more. (Denon D2000, Beyerdynamic DT880, etc)

The Q40 looks like one of the better options, but I have not heard them.

You could buy a nice iBasso amp or something for around 2-300 iirc.

I doubt the HD555's really need an amp. They are pretty efficient.

You could also go for something cheaper like the Fiio E7 which gets great reviews on head-fi: ($81)

It's nice because if you need more power later you can add on a modular E9 amp.

I did a quick search and didn't find anything relevant to what I wanted to ask.

My question is, is there anyway to replace the headphone jack on your headphones rather than having to buy a brand new pair? I'm 100% certain it's not my iPod that isn't working, but rather the connection from my headphone jack to the outlet. I accidentally sat down with the iPod in my pocket and the jack bent and the only way I can hear music is if I push the jack with some force into the iPod and kind of twist it around to where I can hear. I did a quick google search and it seems that I may have to sodder something !

Anyone have any experience with this?

Fwiw, I just got some Klipsch S4's, and back to backed them on some Noisia and Dubstep. They pwn'd a friends set of monster beats HARD. They're lots better than the senheiser 300-II I had too. Would recommend highly, especially as they have a guarantee. They can not be beaten for the maneys.

Probably not the place to poast this but...

I listen to all my music on my Desire Android. The maximum volume is utterly pants vs an iPhone. Does anyone know how I could improve it? Maybe a downloadable Amp app of some sort? Or is an online amp the only way to go?

I like my bass LOUD, so any help would be much appreciated. Ta

Or does anyone have any first hand experience with wireless headphones?
Did you get any?

I bought a cheap pair (£18 lol) of Philips wireless ones a couple of months ago. Pretty sweet for that price actually. But not great sounding so tried these Sony's for less than £50:

Much better sound, the recharging dock is really nice. An overnight charge pretty much works all day for me. Well worth the money.

Interesting. A friend of mine just listened to my MEElectronics M9's ($17) and decided he liked them better than his S4's ($80) and immediately ordered a pair.

Yeah I can believe. My Senheisers aren't THAT far behind these klipsch's, they cost me £11, bout 19usd.
The klipsch's cost £38.

As I said I've not had a chance to read all 80odd pages, what is the general consensus on the best bass heavy, full body in earphones? For under 100usd?

I posted this just a page ago in this thread:

They seem to be some of the more popular ones recommended on head-fi

I just got a set of s4's for the wife to use(since I bought myself Klipsch Image Ones) and I found them to be thin for my taste when compared to the Image ones... but that is personal preference.

but the imaging and clarity are very very nice. and they are about the most comfortable in ear headphone in the world. I need to back to back the image ones with the x10 or the custom 3 klispch's

Just bought these...came to ~60 bucks with 2nd day shipping, comfortable great bass, most of the reviews say these headphones are comparable to ones in the 200 dollar price range....

You first need to isolate the problem and figure out if it's the 3.5mm plug on your headphones that's failing or if it's the jack on your ipod.

Try plugging a different set of headphones into the ipod - if those also have issues, then it's your ipod. (Or try plugging your headphones into your computer/etc).

If it's the headphones, it'll be pretty easy to just solder a new jack on.

This should help guide you through it:

Are there any headphones out there designed not to contact the ear at all? The only thing I care about is comfort and even the biggest headphones rest against my ear. I wish I could find some that just cupped around my lobes without the speaker portion touching at all.

Unfortunately my ears are fairly large.

you know what they say... big hand, big feet and big ears... big gloves, big shoes and big headphones.

:P

Hey,

I need some headphones for live poker, anyone got any suggestions?

I'm looking to spend between £100-£150, and will obviously need closed headphones. I'll be using them with an Ipod and might buy an amp. Also I have quite a large head lol.

I would like to get some seinheisers, however the only closed seinheisers I can find within my price range are these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-H...5247245&sr=1-4

And they look pretty ugly imo.

Would anyone recommend these?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Techni...5247016&sr=8-2

Anyway, I'm a bit of a headphone novice. I just want some good looking, comfy headphones that sound really good.
