I can't believe nobody has mentioned the Digizoid Zo yet. Next to my Tempurpedic I'd say its my best purchase of 2010. I have yet to see or hear a negative review on this thing, and I can't even think about listening to music without it.

I advise anybody to at least read the reviews on it and think about getting it. The stock speakers in my vehicle even sound decent with this thing.

Hi,

Based on recommendations from this thread a couple of years (!) ago, I bought a pair of Etymotic Er6i's. I have loved them and have gotten great use out of them, but they have finally died (the wiring has come loose where it goes from the wires into the thing that plugs in?).

In looking for a replacement pair, I'm seeing that Etymotic themselves recommends the Hf5 as being superior to the Er6i. The price difference between the two at Amazon is pretty negligible. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with both and can tell the difference, and also if it might be worth the extra money for the ER4P's.

For background, I listen to mostly pretty standard 128 or 256-type MP3s, and don't have much lossless on my ipod. I have always liked these Etymotics because they do a great job of blocking ambient noise on the tube, airplane, in the gym, etc., but I am not really playing super high-quality recordings on them most of the time.

Thanks!

ETA: Oh, a second thing. I really like the black zipper-case they come in but was wondering if anyone has ever seen a harder-shell case anywhere, as it would really help in keeping them safe (they are durable enough, but still) when I put them into a bag or something.

My Shure SE310's came in a hard shell. I saw a series update is out (SE_15).

Seems that should be easy enough to repair. Some simple soldering and it should be good, you may have to replace the plug itself but that should only be a couple bucks.

My shures have all came in a box with a plastic cut out shaped thing with everything in it.

Am going to look into this. It does make me mad that a little tiny part of something can break and through ignorance of basic repair I end up replacing the thing.

Also, thanks for the recommendation about the Shure case. Am going to see if I can order one as spare.

I'm in the market for a good set of noise isolating iems. Every time I think I've decided, I find a new one to compare. I'm looking in the ~$100 range.

My top priority is noise isolation (airplane). I have a pair of old sony ex51 (similar to the blue ones PJ posted above). I really like the way they fit into my ear so that if I lean on a pillow, it doesn't drive the thing further into my ear.

So, I've narrowed it to these:

1 - Klipsch Custom 3 ($99)
2 - Klipsch S4 ($79)
3 - Sennheiser IE6 ($99)
4 - Etymotic ER6i ($79)
5 - Shure E4c-n ($169)
6 - Shure SE310 ($199)

I'd need a really compelling argument to pay that much more for the Shures.

I'm leaning towards the Custom 3.

Any thoughts?

IMO that looks a stupid set up :|

What's with the base covering the bottom half of the telly?

@dylan's alias: That is some deal. Out of stock now though. Wouldn't have minded getting them but not sure if I'm able to get them to ship to the UK though.

Probably get bummed on import tax as well.

Yah I think that looks super dumb too. I see a lot of setups like that and it makes no sense to me. I am only getting the outside tower speakers anyway, center channels are for donks.

Looking for headphones for my dad for Xmas, suggestions welcome!

$50-150 price range. He hates earbuds and also wouldn't like a big pair of over the ear type (big DJ style headphones). So that limits me to either ones that hang on each ear independently or the type with the bar behind the head (which he has a <$20 pair of now that need upgraded).

Sennheiser PX-100-II or the 200 model. 100 is open, 200 is closed. 100 is better sonically.
12-08-2010 , 06:34 PM
The PMX-100 is his ideal style.

The following 3 have the same approximate rating and price as far as I can tell, so unless somebody knows why I should not pick the Sennheiser's, those are the ones I'm going with.

Amazon links:
Sennheiser PMX 100

Sony MDR-G57G

Grado iGrado

iGrado's are not that good. I mean they're alright if they fit you, but they didn't fit me and I broke them trying to adjust them out.

SENNHEISER PC360

Thread is a bit heavy to wade through so excuse my grunch.

Could anyone give me some suggestions on the best headphones in the $300-500 range?

Don't really want to have to get an amp or anything.

I suppose I could go the amp route, I'm just trying to simplify the process as I'm not that bright.

get a jh-13 IEM. no amp necessary and they are absolutely ridiculous. more than 2x your budget though.

Why not $50 more for the jh-16?

How do you pick from these?

The jh-10 sounds interesting.

got the audio technika headphone with noisecancelling for 225 euros. Very happy with it, much better soundquality then the bose 300 euro one. Noise cancelling is slightly worse, but still good. More quiet, but less effective.

can research on head-fi.

the jh-13 is the pinnacle of their monitors. it's their most neutral monitor, meaning balanced sound, as it was meant to be heard by the mixer.

jh-16 was developed to handle extra bass for bands on tour that need that power to monitor their sound with. if you like bass then by all means go for the 16. i have the 13 and think it's wonderful, and has quite a good amount of bass.

Hi Guys,
Thinking of buying the Bose QC15's....

http://www.amazon.com/QuietComfort%C...2458290&sr=8-1

Had a couple of questions for the experts here:
1.) Overall thought on value for money.
2.) Any other comparable Sennheiser or Audio Technica (or other) headphones that I can look at?
