I'm looking at picking up a fun inexpensive bass-heavy headphone.

Any thoughts on these guys?

i'd go with the M50. never heard it but heard good things about it from several sources.

the other two, i have no idea.

Agree with the M50 rec.

I just started a new job this week and I work with a lot of engineers. One is building both a headphone amp as well as a phono preamp at his desk and owns some Beyerdynamic DT880s, one of my favorite headphones. The guy behind him owns AKG K702s, I brought in my K701s, another guy had Grado SR80s, unfortunately no Sennheisers in the house. Was a fun listening experience.

K702/701>DT880>>>>>SR80 obv. Just cannot stand Grado's to this day.

Grados are so horrible. Uncomfortable and tinny, they take the prize

You're comparing $100 headphones to $300-500 headphones.

My modded Grado 325s sound wonderful and are very comfortable.

True the stock ear pads can be downright painful.

it hurts at first but then it feels soooo gooooood.

really, the ear pads get really comfortable after a couple months of raping your ears. assuming we are talking about bowls here. my hf2 grados were my most comfortable headphone actually.

yeah, i wouldn't say all grados are bad. try the ps1000 or old school hp-1. of course these are closer to $1000. i'm really excited to get my modded grado Symphones Magnum V3.

I mean you;re right, but I've heard everything up to the PS-1000, Rs-1, HP-2, HF-1, etc and I have the same sentiment for all. I have never listened to a pair of Grados and wanted to leave them on after more than 2-3 songs. Matter of taste though really.

hi! just looking for some advice about some headphones.
looking to spend 150 - 200$ on a pair just to use while i sit at my desk and grind online. i will be playing the music from my ipod, not really keen on spending more money on an amp.

been looking at the Audio Technica ATH-WS70.

any comments on these? or suggestion for pairs around my price range?
thanks!

I literally just unwrapped the Image ones...

first impression about build quality is good. I love the initial feel and materials used. I hope they hold up over time because I love how they look and feel. ear cups are pretty small'ish but they fit my ear well.

right now I am listening to speaker terrifying Radiohead, image ones are handling them well. no buzzing or issues as yet. I listened to a version of Paganini 24th in HD an it sounded slightly thin, but it may have been the eq setting. these phones seem to handle rock better than acoustical performances, but I only have listened to them for about 5 minutes so far.

I have little to judge these headphones by since the image ones are the first headphones I have ever gone out to buy. Over all I say give them a try, you wont be disappointed for the price point.

pricing will be around 125-145

So my brother bought me a pair of the ATH-M50's for Christmas.

For pop/techno/whatever music, they are probably fine.

Overall though, I wouldn't recommend them as a high quality headphone.

Highs/Treble- are SCREECHING. And this is coming from someone that regularly listens to Grados. I did not expect this, but some songs with a lot of treble are unlistenable

Mids - are quite good

Bass - Umm - so everyone claims these headphones have a lot of bass. I would say there is a lot of boom to them, but there is no strong initial impact of the bass that makes bass fun to listen to.

IMO, in the $50-$100 range, I rank:

Grado SR60 > Sennheiser HD555 > ATH-M50 for sound quality

For comfort, nothing beats the sennheisers, though.

I am pretty sure they just pull off... maybe while twisting.

I stumbled upon this website because of the watches thread and I saw this one so I'll decide to share some knowledge... These are the best DJ headphones on the market..

http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/content/pr...eadphones.html

I currently own a pair and they are amazing. They retail $349... If you are a baller you need these. The cable is modular so you can customize whichever cable you like. It is made of magnesium steel so you don't have to worry about them breaking.. You can bend them all the way to a straight line and it won't break. Get them.

12-29-2010 , 07:41 AM
i don't dj... magnesium isn't steel... and 350 isn't baller...

okay now. :-P

agree on the first 2 counts. But basically every top class consumer headphone is in that range (Sennheiser HD650, Beyerdynamic DT880, AKG701, etc.)

Plus I actually kind of like Pioneer's stuff usually. I would be interested in hearing those.

I hear what you are saying, but really, those choices only point out how NORMAL that price point is...

check on Grado RS1's and Grado GS1000's and get back to me.... Balla.

also audeze lcd2, jh13, stax omega.... theres a rare sony one that goes for like 5g's occasionally

Sup guys,

I am pretty much a audionoob, and I came here to find advice for pair of headphones. I am trying to find the best pair less than $200. The only real "requirement" I have is to allow as little noise leaking from the headphone (basically I want to minimize the sound that other people can hear from them). I've used Sennheisers before when I used to play competitive counter strike and I really enjoyed them.

Is wireless a really bad option for headphones? The cord always getting stuck around my chair and I really hate that...

[x] heard the orpheus
[x] heard the hd800s
[x] heard the K1000s
[x] heard the p1000s
[x] heard R10s
[x] still thinks 300 dollar headphones are baller
[ ] thinks grados look baller

I use these at work. Sound is blocked completely, music stops playing when you take them off, modular cable, sound great. No complaints really. I paid $229 on amazon awhile, much better deal here.
