sounds weird, anything blood magic related?

I'm hitting up the 1 hour race that's starting in a bit. Just want to get the basic rewards, I'd be happy with 4 points. I really want the coral ring, but it's 60 points in and I doubt I can do enough races to get that much.

No, I cannot fathom it except for a rare archer who did chaos damage and 500 damage of it.

I tried the race earlier only got to level 12 with shadow. Next time I will do alot better I'm sure. SOm1 got level 20 which is quite remarkable

Yeah I figure I can grind out at least 60 points to get the first three awards, it's relatively easy to get to the minimum level required to get 3 points, so that's only 20 events.

I mean today I died twice and wasted 15 minutes of my hour and still got a guy to 10.5, so the best strategy is to either go balls out to win, or play it conservative and just go for points. Most people better off playing for points.

ah, so I suck. I only got to level 12. But this was my first race, and my first time playing ranger, so I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed. I really shot myself in the foot, by taking poison arrow as a quest reward the instant it was available. It was also a reward for the very next quest! I could've gotten fire trap instead, and then taken poison arrow after. This ended up biting me in the ass when I reached pirate cove area, with all the chaos resist dudes. And then I couldn't finish act 1 normal because the last area had too many chaos resist guys swarming me and I just had to tp out and try to hit lvl 12 at the ledge instead.

notes for next time: rush to ledge, grind there for a while. Then finish act 1 -_-

I spent a ridiculous amount of time doing stupid stuff like comparing gear and looking at skill tree. Really feel like I can do a lot better next race.

Anyone know when my 3 points shows up?

ya, really pays to know the quest rewards and skill tree ahead of time.

Gear obviously requires some mid-race thinking, and can't be all planned out... but obviously practice helps a lot.

my best drop was an 11% arc. I'm thinking about killing off my character and sending the stuff down to softcore, since it's mostly trash and my friend could use the arc. Unless I can actually get decent HC currency with it?
Path of Exile Quote
02-23-2013 , 12:22 AM
11% arc? I'd imagine somewhere around 2 gcp... not a high demand gem but people do use it.

As far as HC:SC conversion other than just dying, no clue. I assume there's a market somewhere that you can get more SC currency per HC currency, but what the rate is and how secure it is...
Path of Exile Quote
02-23-2013 , 12:24 AM
yeah, I'm just gonna send my stuff to sc then. 2 gcp isn't enough for me to bother with.

Got to level 11 last race, figured I could do it easy but it was actually close.

Last time I got to 10.5 in like 40 minutes, this time I dinged 11 with like 3 minutes to go, not sure why was slower.

Basically any race you don't die and just constantly make progress you should be able to score some points.

I'm confident I will hit at least level 13 next 1 hour race, I really need to start getting 5 points per race though, because I want the coral ring reward and I just don't have the time to play enough races to get it at 3 points each. If the races were all 1 hour races, it'd be no issue, but I doubt I can play more than a couple of 3 hour races this entire season.

1 hour race was fun. Got top 100 overall and bubbled the top 20 ranger, got 25th or so. Ended up level ~16.1 for 5 points. Pretty good for my first race and never having played a ranger before. I basically followed the strategy that was posted here but I left the ledge around 8 instead of 10. Got poison arrow immediately and never clicked another skill the entire way. Not sure why another poster had trouble with chaos resist mobs, they still died pretty fast for me. I was in the dark forest when time ran out.

Quick tips for future 1h races from my experience are:
- Get the quicksilver flask asap
- Use orbs of transmutation on your first pieces of jewelry as they can often turn out pretty good (getting extra +life/mana or +dmg on iron/paua rings is pretty strong this early). You can even just use them on random white gear to quickly upgrade if you want.
- Never stop moving, you can save a lot of time by killing via stutter-stepping (for ranged anyways). I was constantly stutter-stepping in between shots to get closer to where I was going or to clump more mobs if I saw a rare pack or something.
- Find a way to use everything you find. If I find an alch, I'm just gonna instantly alch a ring or weapon or something instead of saving it for currency. Obviously this doesn't apply to an exalted or something though, heh.

Downloading now, gonna try to build a dual wield/crit/curse Shadow. Will probably be a train wreck, but w/e.

did all of this. Although stutter stepping doesn't really work so well because of the movement mechanics in this game. You really need attack speed, and getting attack speed in a race is kind of moronic.

lvl 27 as marauder (farmed first zone act 3 for like 20 mins) in the 3 hour party race, played with some friends, some of which are pretty good, some not so much. Was somewhat carrying a new player during the race, probably could have pushed 28-29 without him but oh well. Well outside top 20 marauder this time, ranked high 100's overall or so.

Looking forward to the 3 hour solo tbh

Ya I think I'll give the 3 hour solo a shot too, starts in 45 min.

Sadly couldn't partake in the party 3h this time due to other commitments. Pretty bummed out about that.

Just now did the 3h solo one but died after 75 minutes. Didn't really feel like rerolling at that point because it'd be hard to hit a good level still

Died around that time in solo race also, was doing OK, I guess, probably top 100ish overall.

My death was pretty stupid too, just stayed in a fight too long that I could have escaped from pretty easily. Was tired from having just played the other 3 hour race tbh.

I'll probably not do back to back 3 hour races like that again lol.

haha yeah, I didn't want it to sound insulting so I didn't post this earlier but I was wondering how the **** you managed to play back-to-back 3 hour races.

I kind of want to wake up early for some of the different time zone scheduled 1 hour races, but I also feel like I would play badly and die too. I didn't have any close calls during my last race but I also took it very slow.

Pretty fun game, ya'll are welcome to add me: Killerwalski

Also follow me on twitch because I'll be streaming this game quite a bit in the near future: http://www.twitch.tv/Killerwalski

Got a duelist to level 30 then said **** it I'm all in with a HC and rolled a Templar. Up to 31 now and finding it really enjoyable. It gets intense when you almost die due to being stunlocked =o

hc templar might be easier than sc duelist anyways.

I've just started - I gather I am meant to be saving some items up as they're useful later, what should I be doing?

I'd save all the orbs you find until you start to get the game figured out a bit plus at low levels you'll be finding upgrades to your gear frequently so it isn't worth investing orbs to upgrade gear pieces until you get familiar with which ones are the common ones.

LOL - RIP my Shadow (level 59)

Was doing boring Cruel Hillock with low life boots to get random rares/uniques for future characters. Signed in, went to do a run. Got hit - Resurect.

Was very confused at first, then realised that I stopped my store check in Merciless. So so sad. Time for a break.
