Still kind of shook by how I died. I leapslammed away and was just dead. Didn't see a ranged attack hit me at all. :-/

I'm playing a spectral marauder right now, almost to act 2, and I'm afraid that at some point I'm going to run into resistance that I won't be able to overcome, as if I'm not playing optimally.

I guess I'm worried about investing a lot of time and not being able to continue progressing.

Damn, just died for the first time, Act 2 normal.

Some ground monster kept popping up out of the ground shooting fireballs that were doing a lot of damage. No more health potions, but thought I could take him with the last bit of health he had. I think we killed each other at the same time. Probably should have just left the area.

Well I guess I got that out of the way. haha Not even mad.

Same exact way I died. The one I fought had the chaos damage mode too. Reeeeeep. Those guys hit like a truck.

if you guys run out of health pots you don't have to try to kill the mob, sounds like really not the brightest idea

when you port your flasks will be refilled and he'll still be there

Oh I had health potions. I meant I died to the same type of mob. I took barely any damage from stuff in act 3 then I went to the hedge maze and got almost insta gibbed by that mob type.

Died to dominus.

Haven't played this game for months, so dominus and caligula were new to me. Caligula was a little hard but didn't ever OHK me so I had time to learn his ****. Dominus on the other hand did some full screen aoe dot **** during his second form which I had no idea how to deal with and just died.

Guess I should have either researched the new bosses before fighting them (ON ****ING NORMAL) or had a disconnect macro ready.

upset only because the rest of the run was so ridiculously easy, never even dropped below half health (not even to caligula or dominus first form).

You can escape the blood rain by standing next to him

Just found 13% cast when damage taken =D

Too bad the quality arguably makes it worse for defensive purposes

And yeah took me an "Oh-****-logout" before I learned about the bubble you have to stand in vs blood rain.

So do I want to spend the points to get an skill like leather and steel to remove armor movement penalties?
Path of Exile Quote
10-30-2013 , 10:01 AM
movement speed is also a good defensive stat, so if you plan your char around armor gear then definitely.
Path of Exile Quote
10-30-2013 , 10:04 AM
Not really planning around armor, but I have to wear something . Will move towards that and celerity next. How many speed skills are there? I have 3 3% boosts, celerity is 8, and it looks like leather and steel wipes out all penalties. Are there more movement speed passives I am not seeing?

can't check at this moment, but just wanted to add that don't go out of your way to get it, from what I remember leather and steel also adds evasion and armor if I recall correctly, but if you're not in that part of the tree so don't bother so much

Yeah, it has another benefit. I don't think it is really out of the way from where I am going. I am winging my build somewhat (I have a general idea of what i want to try, but in no way have I gone off and done any number crunching and optimization)

My plan is to just get two chars to 60 odd without spending much currency, then do my first proper build. You need all that levelling gear etc to do it efficiently, and you can determine the 3rd char build based on what you picked up along the way.

In other words, I think it's fine to just build to what keeps you alive til 60 odd for now, and have a plan for the next one.

I'm trying to just wing my build as well, with a bit of pre-thought. I'm sure it will be a disaster but I kind of like learning that way rather then just blindly following a guide.

Doing an ice/crit witch. Any tips on what are some important nodes and key stats to keep an eye on? Trying to go for energy shield, crit, frost damage.

How important are cast speed nodes?

Should I just ignore Health completely and pick up Chaos Innoculation? Seems like that would be a late game choice and I'm going to keep that node available but not take it till later.

just lost all my leveling gear for nemesis going a bit too fast

imo for cast speed nodes only grab the most effective ones, and never go out of your way for any clusters since they're all pretty inefficient. Cast speed is an easy way to get +dps on your character sheet, but it also raises your mana costs and has diminishing returns towards overall dps with other +cast speed bonuses (such as faster casting gem).

you want to get a ton of crit nodes though if you're going ice.

I think it's been nerfed but last time I was around chaos innoculation was worthless because of shavronne's wrappings being way superior.

If you go CI then I think you need to base your entire build around it. It also has the problem that every other CI build wants the same gear so it can be quite hard to get good stuff.
Path of Exile Quote
10-30-2013 , 02:20 PM
Hmm ok. So for a first character I might be a bit better off just going for a mix of health and es and not taking CI?

I don't want anything too gear dependent as I won't really have a lot of currency as a new player and am not hugely into trading.
Path of Exile Quote
10-30-2013 , 02:42 PM
Yea being new sucks. Problem with ES is it provides no damage reduction vs physical. You'll need something like enfeeble and granite flasks to help out. I always just noob it up and roll with iron reflexes.

I've never done it but I heard to go CI you really need high-end gear

Yup. Or just be Kripp and have people let you rip them off and pay 3 chaos for items on a stash tab literally called junk.
