Head's up or full ring?

You also have to figure that if you have a pair, each of your opponents are each slightly more likely to have a pair. It's a small factor, but it's part of the equation....

:sigh: I miss it sometimes myself. Plenty of good squats in Golden Gate park back in the day.

Of course with the economy on the brink of collapse we might all be finding out the joys of squatting in a shantyville sooner rather than later.

Conan, you still in the Bay?

I live on the streets but I have a mobile phone

Its probably 1 in 12k hands if its heads up - (and this is flopping a set).
However, it is 9 handed most of the time, so there are 8 times as many chances of someone else having a pair.
i.e. now 1 in 1.5k hands
This is assuming the original calculations mean you're always oversetted, and not just two sets on the same board. If its always oversetted, then 1 in 1.5k is the odds of being oversetted (assuming every pair sees every flop). If its two sets on the same flop, then its 1 in 3k of an overset.

I tried to solve this from first principles, but its way too hard as there are too many variables.
You could do it heads up and then try and refine it, but even then its not clear cut.
If you both have pairs, then the odds on you both flopping a set are not 1/7.5 * 1/7.5 as if you flop one, the odds of him flopping one is then 1/11.85
add in the fact that you have 8 others and not one other, and also the chance of multiway flops, and finally the chance that no flop is seen when you have a pair, then it makes it pretty darn hard.

Egg

Massachusetts Bay now. My Haight-Ashbury days are behind me, though I've got a sister in Mountain View I'm supposed to go visit at some point.

They were talking about someone named "Lucky Jim" on the pokercast, who I guess really is a homeless Londoner and 2+2er.

Oh, I'm keeping my cellphone.

Maybe I could get a van. Drive around and find wireless networks to play poker to buy gas. See the country.

I'm picturing this:

But I know it would really just be this:

Oh LuckyJimm is epic. Everyone should really familiarize themselves with some of his exploits from NVG and the like. Busto degen with crazy tales of being a bike messenger, being fired, crazy roommates, and always thinking he's just one deposit away from "spinning up" to the highstakes omaha games.

Good stuff.

Actually, I turned my game around in the last week and made up all my losses for the month . . . dragged the monsters out from under the bed and strangled them.

anyone ever had one of those rases sessions where everything goes your way, so you just start laughing hysterically and shout ship it until your neighbors comes by asking if everything is alright? kind of emberassing, let me tell you.

but really, this was ridiculous. my 2nd best session ever - and only 560 hands

Lol. It's hard to remember that feeling. I am having my worst run of cards today. Never ran so bad before.

Lol, just checked on HEM that I have flopped TPTK with AK just 3 times out of 57 times today. Run good.

I still can't beat NL25. What the **** should I do?

At the moment I feel like I wont play a hand again this month. But tomorrow, I am back at the tables...

Seriously, no matter what I do at NL25, I just can't win. I get it in either bad, or get outdrawn. "Get value out of your good hands..." Hmm, good hands? Only got like 3 in 7000 hands.

Bankroll at 473, epic fail. **** my life.

I've been up there a handfull of times. Plenty of poker in Tahoe, but there are only two no-limit games. Montbleu runs a 1-2 and Harvey's runs a 2-3, as well as bigger games at Harvey's. Games are friendly and soft. During the winter I hear that poker is dead during the day, but they are awesome at night when tourists with money want to unwind after a day of skiing.

I posted a TR of my first trip to Tahoe here. That thread also has a lot of information of the games in Tahoe if you read it all. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Nice thanks! That picture makes the place look pretty miserable.

Life is also a game. The more time that goes by the more I understand this.

It may only be a game but if you treat things in life as just a game, or just a job, or just a task, then you'll never rise to the top. The best leaders, the best players, the smartest geeks, don't become the best by treating it just as a game, they get to be the best because they are committed and work hard and want to be the best they can be, they push themselves, they break their comfort zones, they keep on going even when they don't feel like it, because thats what winnrs do.

your words make little sense. You can give 100% to any task you pursue, be it a game or a job or whatever.

And what a successful life is concerned, im still waiting for your definition of it.
