no need to be a dick to them. It's a pretty great idea, the execution is hard. We're all poker players here, we're going to make mistakes.

+1 to rnc's idea of $15 to mers to run thew hole thing

Basically, the biggest potential problem is people who want to play but have limited schedules. Whose fault is it if the 3k hands don't get completed in a reasonable time frame, if both people are saying "hey, I'll play then, can't do then"?

The easiest way around this is to agree that when entering you're willing to be flexible and play at a decent variety of times. It's a (somewhat) friendly competition so as long as people are entering with that in mind, we should be fine.

I don't really want to be a judge of who made more of an attempt to get in hands, so let's try not let it get to that. When you get your draw, immediately make contact and set session times somewhat in stone. Then, if people start missing those, that's how we'll know who isn't following through. Again, it should not come to this. If you find you can't agree on the time when you get your draw, appeal IMMEDIATELY, preferably before (m)any hands are played. We'll figure it out from there.

Treat this seriously and it will go smoothly is my best advice. Happy to do all the legwork randomizing/etc for tips or the fun of following it.
Great call on you running it awesome. And to everyone saying rules aren't set are you just ******ed or too lazy to read back? The only thing that hasn't been decided is the payout structure. That being said take it over mer I'll be happy to ship you the 15 to handle this tournament.

Isn't nemo still escrowing?

I have zero problem with Nemo being escrow and me still running it. It makes sense for the person you know and who has escrowed so many HSNL things to do so, so no need to shuffle it around unless anybody objects. I would also like to make it explicitly clear that me getting a cut is not at all required, who knows how much I'll actually have to do. In fact I'd even say don't worry about it and then the winners can tip at the end if he/she feels like it, and that still would not at all be necessary. Personally I'd be more comfortable with that rather than getting shipped money now when it's not at all clear how much legwork will actually go into running this.

For now:

1. I see no holes with the rules listed, except that we need a payout structure and a final list of players. All this has to be put into place before the draw. Let's try to have that take place Sunday night, which gives us from now until then to figure out a firm player list and payout structure.
2. Nemo, can you post a list of people who have currently escrowed to you?
3. I'm going to err on the side of not taking away people's equity unless it's very clear, but everybody needs to be aware that if I'm going to run this and enforce rules that aren't 100% cut-and-dry, everybody who joins has to be prepared to accept my decisions as an arbitrator. I think it's impossible to have completely 100% letter-of-the-law rules in terms of people not playing when they should, so just be aware that in escrowing, you are authorizing me to interpret the rules and make decisions that may in some cases decrease your equity. I will of course be asking lots of people and making sure I get tough decisions right.

have all expressed interest but no final escrow. I'll PM them all tonight (or post ITT if you're reading this). If you're not on this list and want to jump in, please post, we very likely have room for you.

As for payout structure, I'm just going to propose one to keep it moving: 50%/30%/20% for 1st/2nd/3rd, as is standard in STTs. We can pay 4th if people want, but I think top 1/2/3 is good: I think if you go 2-2 (which 4th place will), tough luck, that's not a cash. That makes for this:

1st: $4000
2nd: $2400
3rd: $1600

If we get 16 people, which I think we will.

If anybody has questions about the rules, please ask them now. You can PM me if you think your question might be dumb. Everybody should feel like they had an opportunity to have any rules clarified to them they didn't understand before this starts.

I just shipped mers $15 -- I encourage others to do the same. Note this is not something mers asked or anything like that. In fact I just randomly volunteered him without even asking him. But he's doing great already. If run well this competition will really be great for the HUNL community in a number of ways and is something we should consider doing more regularly
