I like an old vintage shirt more than a DG $200 shirt any day.

Only reason why I'm suggesting Moore's is because they keep spamming me with BOGO free deals which is pretty good on my budget.
Depends what your actual budget is. It's a lot better to get 5 of something than get 10 of something for the same price but with the latter needing to be upgraded a year from now. Moores is pretty ****ty IME and I assume their stores are stocked even worse in Saskatchewan.

I was recently in Moores because I have a friend who has hit some rough times and needed a new shirt for a job interview and that was the appropriate store given the circumstances. The clothing is basically on par with Sears (so not good) and you could go better at the Bay both of which will be in any Canadian city.

I don't think the Moore's pricing isn't all that good either. This was a few months ago so I don't remember exactly but it was about $120 for two shirts but that was because they were having a sale of buy one shirt get the second 1/2 price or something like that. The shirts were about $80 and they looked like they should for that price.

I haven't bought anything from Ralph Lauren / Polo since high school so this might not hold true any longer but they made the best quality dress shirts that are under $100. The massive polo logo is terrible but they don't seem to use that on the dress shirts. If on a budget and thinking widely available retailers in Canada I'd go Polo and Banana Republic but these type of cloths will just make you presentable and you can't expect them to generate any kind of halo effect.

Edit: Looking at Polo online was a little disappointing for shirts that range in $85-125 on the US site so add at least 30% for Canadian prices. Polo does make really nice shirts but they are all part of their Purple sub-brand and $350-450+

I particularly like the watches and imo it s better to save a few bucks and get a great watch than a crappy mini-diamond, unless you want to use this occasion to propose her?? (and you can get these watches on ebay from like 400$, just make sure it comes with initial purchase receipt/warranty papers)

That's not a great watch.

Uh, no.

I mean yeah if you're finding "new with tags RLPL CASHMERE SWEATER" for like $50 then yeah. But that's more the exception than the rule.

But the grey and secondary markets for clothes are full of fantastic deals.

If you're on a student budget then you should be buying used stuff of eBay. You can get stuff that is nicer than club monaco or whatever for less money. Blazers in particular look better with age anyway (especially if you're getting fully canvassed stuff).

But if you don't pay a lot for your clothes, people won't be nice to you.

I think if you have a bit of time then it can be worth your while to go to a Goodwill. You're going to have to work your way through a lot of racks but there are some gems in there. People that do well usually recycle their clothes quite often so you get some good stuff donated.

PVN,

Can I have some examples of these deals?

I know with many of these brands that they have very strict policies so prevent brand dilution so I find this quite surprising.

But check out ebay for high end fashion brands.

Look up Dolce & Gabbana as an example. You can easily pick up clothing for $100 or less.

When the bitches see D&G on my shirt, they jump on my dick.

Can a mod out who owns this atrocious account? I haven't seen one good post, and I assume it is a gimmick. Should be banned either way.

Get on ebay.

It's grey market. Those policies only apply to authorized dealers. Stuff gets redirected through wholesaler/distributors all the time.

And of course if you go used you can clean up even more.

Example, I've seen Oxxford suits new go for $600 or so. It's possible these are fake but pretty unlikely as that's a real niche label and people buying it know what they are looking for.

I looked at e-bay. E-bay has 20 shirts that claim to be Giorgio Armani (the specific sub-brand not the designer)

Of the 20 shirts -- 3 provide plenty of photos and 17 do not provide enough photos to evaluate if the shirts are real.

Of the 3 that provide detailed photos 2 are 100% fake and there is a greater than 50% chance that the third is also fake but I would need to actually see it to know with certainty.

Of the 17 that provide insufficient pictures to identify one does provide enough detail to appear fake as well. The lack of photos obviously makes me suspicious of the others as well.

There is no way people should be buying expensive clothing off e-bay. Your just going to pay a premium for something you could have gotten on Canal street for $50.

Edit: Having taken a closer look I can now say 2 of the 17 with inadequate pictures are also confirmed fake.

Yay they're in the process of building one of these right in my city right now! Time to start browsing their website!

After review I like the look of a lot of clothes on Banana Republic. I see they're part of a trio of companies (GAP, Banana Republic, Old Navy). I know for certain that Old Navy is absolute garbage (correct me if I'm wrong), but how does the GAP stack up to Banana Republic? I see that the majority of things there are cheaper by ~$30-$40 a shirt, but as an uneducated consumer I'm assuming that the more $$$ the better?
11-17-2012 , 06:49 PM
I have never owned anything from The Gap. I have been in their stores but never really paid attention.

I had to travel with no notice for a family emergency and so had to buy some clothing just to have something to change into. I went to Fcuk and on a cost vs quality basis I liked the polo I purchased. Don't really want to endorse something based on one item but for under $50 it was an excellent shirt. Probably a low probability you have one local to you but maybe.
11-17-2012 , 07:38 PM
Gap is one of the better brands that isnt targeted to fashionably forward people and is everywhere.
11-17-2012 , 08:08 PM
BR >> Gap > Old Navy.

BR is nothing special, but it is a good entry level brand and is affordable.
11-17-2012 , 09:21 PM
If you buy BR never pay full price. They have 30-40% off sales frequently, making some of their clothes decent value.
11-17-2012 , 09:38 PM
Reminds me of jcpennys every week saying, "Biggest sale of the year" blah blah.. I'm have to check into BR
11-18-2012 , 01:50 AM
i thought ebay was paypal only so if its fake you can just return it and get a refund? obv u have to be able to spot fakes first.

i had a look a while ago just to see whats on offer, most of the really cheap stuff is classed as factory rejects with minor faults (probably fake), don't most high quality brands just bin these rather than release them at a discounted sale?
11-18-2012 , 02:06 AM
lol @ used clothes
11-18-2012 , 02:52 AM
I think thrift shopping shoes is sometimes acceptable, not to mention you can find amazing dress shoes for pretty cheap this way then just clean them up.

Do you know when these sales occur? Seems like a great time to buy a few shirts and save some much needed $$$ at the same time.
