From the Raiders-Lions game just now...

Raider ball at the 50. Avril sacks Palmer 13 yards behind the line of scrimmage, but with a blatant horsecollar. Flag is thrown, horsecollar is called, 15 yard penalty. Next play is Raiders 1st and 10 at the Lion 48? It makes no sense to validate the illegal tackle by basically making it +EV to tackle the dude that way by counting it. They should really assess that flag from the line of scrimmage and have it be Raider ball on the 35, shouldn't they?

its 15 yards from the spot so if thats what they did its right

in my next post i will tell you a truly loltastic ruling
12-18-2011 , 05:53 PM
I wasn't really even questioning whether the referees did it right. I was questioning why the rulebook has it that way for tackles behind the LOS.
12-18-2011 , 05:54 PM
why should it be different? dont you "validate" the tackle either way?
12-18-2011 , 05:56 PM
also try this for bad rulebook (or refs just screwing up, i didnt check)

running back breaks thru and is about 30 yards downfield when he grabs a facemask, which is 15 yards form the spot. The defense then commits a personal foul of their own. These offset and the play is replayed from the original LOS, so the defense gained 15 yards and prevented a first down because of their personal foul.

Tack-on penalties to a positive gain punish an illegal play in a way that this does not. That's all they can possibly do on positive plays.

Yeah that seems to be how they assess those, which is ridiculous.

Another point that bugs me...
Team A makes a first down. Then, after the play, they commit a dead ball personal foul. The first down stands; the team goes back 15 yards and it's 1st and 10.

Alternatively, team A makes a first down. They return to the huddle, and then before the next play one of the players commits a personal foul. The team goes back 15 yards and it's 1st and 25.

Why are these assessed differently? Shouldn't that whole dead ball period be one continuous period of time? I suppose they're using the start of the next play clock as their dividing line, but that seems silly to me. Dead ball is dead ball.

im getting post reports/complaints of acdgi just taking the trolling/awful posting routine that essentially forced his exile from SE just over here instead. i dont read this thread regularly, so would appreciate opinions from SL regulars on whether this is the case or not cause i'd rather not have to look through his body of work ITT to determine it.

Dye,
Go **** yourself. Admitted bandwagon fans don't get to make posts like that.

There's a reason that Detroit can't have nice things. It's because THAT post right there is representative of the greater Detroit area as a whole. It doesn't even matter if there are likable players on the field for Detroit (there are a couple); the fanbase doesn't deserve success or happiness. Not just in sports, but in all of life.

There is basically one rule of being a man: act like you've been there before. If you can't follow that rule, then kindly complete the formality, remove your testicles, and donate them to science. Thank you.
