what was the deal w stafford? heard that he was not gonna play until last minute. that might explain why the spread was so low

the system is only home underdogs

right -- it's only home dawgs whose home field is a different playing surface than the visiting team. e.g., packers @ vikings.

afaik the only game that fell within this category this week was detroit @ denver.

look: these games are ALWAYS scary. for a hometeam to be a dawg they have to be pretty crummy. you're never gonna feel comfortable picking them but you gotta stick through it. you have weeks like last week where the vikings almost beat the packers and then you have weeks like this week when detroit ends the game in the 1st quarter.

you'd think after all these years i would've researched if there's any difference between real grass and that new, fake "real" grass. all the years it's basically just been astroturf (vikings, colts, lions, etc.)
10-31-2011 , 10:13 AM
seems like youd tend to pick/pick against the same teams pretty often over the season. probably on the rams and colts a lot this year and against the saints.

yeah, that happens too. you'll be picking against great dome teams often.

this system was amazing back in the early 2000s when the rams were good. iirc, it hit something like 80% that year and the rams NEVER covered on grass.

edit: just pulled it up cause i was curious:

2004: rams finish 12-4.

loss @ NYG 13-23
loss @ SEA 23-24
win @ PIT 33-21
loss @ SF 10-30
win @ CHI 23-21
win @ ARI 30-27
win @ CLE 26-20

i obv don't remember the spreads but it would appear that i went 6-1 just on rams games there (assuming arizona wasn't in their new stadium yet).

I wonder if it's better to lump the new field turf w grass or go just cut those teams out completely if you think it's kind of in the middle of grass and turf.

Disko, I think I asked you once before, and you may have answered, but I forget: do you have the actual record of this over the 2 years? Past 5 years?

i've lumped the field turf in with grass but like i said, have never researched whether that's smart or not.

i don't have the exact numbers but i am 100% sure it has been profitable every season over the last decade or so and am 90% confident that it has hit with at least 65% accuracy. there were a couple of ~80% years and the worst year was like 58% or something like that.

even though i dont bet sports anymore i still follow these games out of curiosity

just looked at next's weeks schedule and none of these games will be available

Turf is turf, it will always be more bouncy and allow for a faster game, but obviously FieldTurf is more true-to-grass than AstroTurf. Probably not a bad idea to lump them together unless you have an extremely fast team.

ugh Georgia gonna Georgia...

http://espn.go.com/college-football/...backs-one-game

"Georgia running backs Isaiah Crowell, Carlton Thomas and Ken Malcome are suspended for the Bulldogs' game against New Mexico State on Saturday, coach Mark Richt confirmed.....the three players were disciplined for failing a drug test that was administered last week before Georgia's 24-20 victory over Southeastern Conference archrival Florida in Jacksonville.

The source had no knowledge of when the test results were known."

Very strange that they test athletes for THC. I don't see why anybody would care.

How the **** does ESPN label this as "Lane Kiffin apologizes for comments"?

Quote:
"I am sorry that all this happened, and I've learned from this," Kiffin said. "I've learned that regardless of questions I can't answer any questions that have to do with calls from any games or any conversation that has an official has with me.

"From here on out, I won't be able to respond to any of that."
That's basically just another complaint paired with the extremely thin veil of "sorry all of this happened."
11-02-2011 , 09:20 AM
I just saw the end of that game but the call on the last play was correct. the clock never stops the instant the knee is down and it doesnt stop when you start asking for timeout, it stops when the ref signals. the problem is that he didnt coach his player to go down instead of running horizontally for 5 seconds
11-02-2011 , 09:35 AM
Yes, absolutely correct. He thought somehow that requesting a timeout before the play meant that he gets a stoppage at the precise millisecond that the player's knee goes down. That's ******ed.

god i hate kiffin

USC was way more likable to me when Carroll was the coach (and no that's not revisionist history based on where Pete coaches now). Back then it seemed that people were mostly fueled with hatred of their success. I realize there were scandals, but college football fans just arbitrarily pick and choose which scandals offend them (and when I say arbitrary, I mean "based strongly on how much these scandals enable winning").

Having Kiffin as the face of their team just makes them unlikable all around.

something about him just rubs me the wrong way. it has nothing to do with what happened in Tennessee. he just seems really weird and creepy.
