Either get the pro or the new 9300 based co axial if you really want an automatic.

the 9300s are going for like 10k. Get a daytona IMO if you're spending that money.

Was this one. Saw the mechanical gear action for the first time and I see why you peeps prefer automatics. Pretty cool stuff.

I am still kicking myself not snatching a Hublot King Power Zirconium Foudroyante for half price of retail totally mint not too long ago (I think I posted a picture earlier in this forum). For some reason that complication just mesmerizes me.

What do we think of Girard-Perregaux? I love this chap:

It's a discontinued 'vintage 1960' love the case and rattrapante but the manufacture and automatic text puts me a little off. Going to see one irl next week hopefully, seems a lot of watch for the money

All yours for only €550/£450/$700 (apprx). What do people think? Generally speaking that is (I'm not going to buy one).

I think it's quite cool, but this doesn't strike me as a watch for people that like watches perhaps. Seems weirdly small at only 35mm?

well, its square and all dial so I can understand the 35mm size.

I think its pretty cool. Would consider buying if it was like $500.

haha i like that, bet it would get more attention than any watch I've owned.

Glad you agree! I think I prefer it in black to stainless steel though.

@Onitsuka: haha, yep definitely a conversation starter

I am seriously considering selling a few things and popping my rolex cherry.

Also considering GMT Master 1675, obv. but I'm not sure I really want to get something that old as my first rolex. Maybe a pepsi 16710 (having the independently-settable hour hand would be a huge plus as well) with the lug holes on a jubilee?

IMO nobody under 45 should wear a jubilee..

your first rolex should be a leopard daytona, ldo.

For some reason the jub feels right on the gmt. Also I hate hate HATE the stamped-pattern oyster dive clasp.

nah, rainbow Daytona > leopard Daytona. But if I hit the powerball I promise I'll get one of those.

i had a chance to see a leopard daytona at my AD but the owner came and picked it up too quickly.. seriously, they sold one..

the rainbow seems a lot less risque, i bet there will be a few in the cases of various LV strip boutiques in the near future..

Hate Jubilee's, the oyster on the old GMTs isnt great but the exp one is better imo.

I know you'll do your homework and make sure you get everything ok but its such a minefield with vintage rolex, just have a checklist and make sure everything lines up as it should. A small replacement at a service can turn collectors off the watch instantly even if its something as simple as a newer bracelet never mind hands/dial whatever.

Trying to decide which I'd pick if I had to buy one of them again, having owned both (16700 not 16710), prob the explorer is more versatile and it should be about 10% cheaper, but the right GMT is lovely too.

Do it do it do it do it.

Also if you're comfortable with it Onitsuka you should do a timeline TR of all your stuff I feel like you quietly have had one of the best collections on here.

Yeah, this is something I need to research more. The differences in the bracelets are really confusing and it seems there are as many different versions as their are datejust dials.

Came across this interactive online magazine by watchfinder.co.uk - not sure how recent the first issue is (presumably a couple of months old because it talks about Baselworld to come), but it might be of interest to you guys if you weren't aware, it being a UK site and all.

What do you mean? I thought it was just Pres which came in FG/950, Oyster which now has sweet ass glidelock(or half link like Milgauss) and Jubilee.

and all those bracelet features came out way after that version of the Exp ii or GMT were in production

What other ones are there?

I decided to splurge on myself, at christmas. Noticing that the price had dropped on this watch, I figured it was time to purchase...time.

Man, this watch is awesome, does everything it's supposed to do, is dead on accurate, attractive etc.

Really, for the watch itself - 5 stars.

But it's imperfect, in it's perfection.

It's TOO accurate.

So now my phone rings, like... everyday.

Some dude from the International Meridian Conference, in Greenwich, UK.

"What time do YOU have?"

Every freakin' day.

And really early in the morning, too.

I was all "Geezus, do you KNOW what time it is?" the first couple of times they woke me up, until I realized that... they didn't.

"GMT is an absolute time reference" my *ss.

My wrist is apparently the "absolute time reference" now.

Which is a lot of power for one person to wield.
And I AM only human, even when I'm wearing the watch.

I was feeling lazy the other morning, and didn't feel like rushing out of the house, and I confess I abused the power.

So when they called, I told them it was actually 17 minutes, 28 seconds EARLIER than it really was.

Messed things up, but good, for the rest of the planet (sorry!), but i got to finish the paper and have a second cup of coffee, and didn't get docked for being late when I got to the office.

So - totally worth it.

No worries, though. I have a plan. I'll gradually put those 17 minutes and 28 seconds BACK, over a 2 week span of phone calls.

Because my watch says that I CAN.
