i think it's pretty clear that he plays up to it a fair amount, but my best guess would be that it's mainly genuine.

Do you really think LeBron was the one who came up with the idea to do that? His stupid publicist prolly came to him and said "Look dude I have this really awesome idea......televise it.....youll be famous....people will love you" and LeBron said "uhh...sure?"

I no longer feel bad for hating on all the players and Teams that I do. I thought my reasons were bad, but my reasons are far superior to "he televised his decision"

I was asking, who does that?

the answer, someone who thinks they are bigger than the game.

yahoo answers can be quite comical

It's a very bad reason to hate on someone.

Not that that will stop a large group of people from hating on him for it, though.

if there are no significant cognitive differences in the sexes, why can't you name a famous female mathematician, besides maybe Ada Lovelace?

I don't understand how you draw your conclusion."Since his decision to leave Cleveland was televised, Lebron thinks hes better than the game". He plays the game with respect, treats players with respect, treats reporters with respect. yet he is above basketball? I don't think so.

Hasn't this been attributed to the educational system in a large part?

And I would imagine that way back in yesteryear, society was asking it's prospective female mathematicians to get back in the ****ing kitchen and pop another one out, so men have a couple thousand year head start on them right now.

I use yahoo answers. Nothing wrong with that if you have a brain to filter out the obviously bad / wrong stuff.

It's fact that there are differences. I'm not saying one is superior to the other, but the differences are undeniable.

Women weren't given the same opportunities as their male counterparts until very recently, especially in terms of schooling

Trolls aren't generally able to carry something on for this long without making a major screwup outting themselves.

I believe he's just one of those eccentric people.

social structure?

I said that it's possible that there are differences at the extremes of the distribution, which would be one explanation for the elite of the elite being predominantly male (and one which would have little obvious implication for the rest of us drones). It's equally conceivable that the way that various fields are organised acts to make it harder for women to make their way to the top. (and you say famous - that's another level of complexity again)

I was certainly tutored by a fair number of women far smarter at maths than me,

i mean it is scientific fact that there are differences between the brains of men and women, whats the argument here?

Consider yourself heretofore exempt from any female gender stereotype conversations. We're talking about other women, not you (seriously though, we are!)

I don't think filthy's a troll, I think he probably just has some deeply ingrained psychological hangups with women + dating.

Talking about 'logic' is dodgy because it's so iffily defined - i would be more sure that it's a general societal tendency to interpret the way men think as 'logical' and the way women think as 'emotional' than a real measurable difference.

There are, aiui, some differences in tasks that men tend to be better or worse at than men - spatial manipulation (i.e. imagining how objects would look when rotated) is one i think men do better at than women that.

But even with all of this, any differences between the genders are dwarfed by the noise when you look at individuals.
This is a prettay good post imo.

The way I had perceived it, estrogen produces emotions > emotions cloud logic > there is an inverse correlation between estrogen levels and logic (could just be frequency in which logic is used, although the more you use it the better you get, etc). This is not to be confused that there's a negative correlation with estrogen + intelligence, however. And obviously some women are far logically better than most men, estrogen levels notwithstanding.

Regarding the individuals point, I def agree with that. Recently met my friend's new gf whose logical thought processes + worldviews aligned with mine quite a bit + possibly more than any man I have met. Interestingly, my friend was complaing about how she's not as girly as he'd prefer for her to be, and that she sucks at flirting. I assume that it's not coincidence that she likely has lower estrogen levels than the average woman.

Asking: what effect those differences have, how to interpret them, the relative size of those aggregate differences relative to the overall distribution of the whole population, the impact of other factors on how those differences manifest themselves in society at large, and the ways in which any differences are used to prove common biases. Plus possibly some more i missed.

i'm not a biologist, but my working assumption would be that this is probably totally untrue.

Plus it's always struck me that the male of the species' love of kicking the crap out of one another is a bit of a fatal blow to the 'men are more logical' argument. So maybe you have to add in Testosterone => rage => clouding logic?

that was an interesting day in class
