Did you find the key?

Guy takes key, knows you'll have to leave house eventually, says he left 30K lying around in his house ....IN WHICH A GUY HE BARELY KNOWS IS STAYING WHILE HE'S IN ANOTHER COUNTRY.... and now you're going to pay him 30K. Why were you not arrested?

honestly it sounds like this alex isnt exactly a professional gambler... but a professional con man...
doesnt seem very professional to me... for all this alex guy knows hes never going to see his moeny again. trying to guilt a broke kid into paying him 30k back doesnt seem like the best scam imo.

Hmmm this looks familar. Hmmm.
Lets see... 88% of concentration... ?
Want to be famous, or rather have famous blog? So far zero coments everywhere, but you may get it trough. Just like Ed did.

Story i well written, but man, the parents part leaving their child die in foreign country without money or shelter... and the 30k stolen... i mean ofcourse you left the money on the table, but thieves didnt hit for 300 euros and run asap (this would be considered bad manners in France), they actually searched entire apartments (like they should) looking for $30k more. And surprise surprise they found it, cause Alex kept them under the pillow. Ofcourse you were so starving that you left apartments unlocked for an hour because nearest shop is 3 like miles away, and there is NO FOOD in apartments whatsover (because Alex just moved in). And everybody knows theres no home food delivery service in France (lazy bastards).

Otherwise, nice hand, sir.

Best scam ever-- invest thousands in some kid online, lose thousands, then let him MOVE IN WITH YOU in france for a month while he loses more of your money and you're paying for his food and **** and then spring the ULTIMATE TARP ON HIM by saying "HEY YOU GOT my 30k stolen, i've already spent like 10k on you and lived with you for a month but now somehow i will legally force you to pay me a WHOPPING, ASTRONOMICAL FIGURE OF...DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN 20k! I know there's a 1% chance you'll ever pay that back to me anytime soon, and 5% chance over the next 10 years, but i just SCAMED YOU GOOD SON!"

Edit: It goes without saying the above conversation is happening in the scam artist's endlessly complex, scam-centered brain, as such a smart scame artist would never tell his unwitting prey of his plot.

Alex is scammer or not, it doesnt matter, this is still the most unbelievable story i've heard. If this is true, just wow. And f*ck you, there was some very pitiful actions from you. "I decided to steal 50 euros from everydays 300 that he stacked me", "I decided not to tell him this and that".. What kind of person does that to someone who is helping you? But yeah, you must have had rough time (altrought it is right for you).

Learn from your mistakes.

I say get back to the games that you built your bankroll on. Stay away from full ring games until you've built a more than adequate bankroll because you haven't adjusted to them. Drop off your computer tower or laptop somewhere where you can't get ahold of it, like your parents' house, or a storage place, before you go on alcohol runs or to the bar for the night. Alcohol is what cost you your bankroll. Don't forget that.

Wow man, makes me kind of speechless. Good read tho, and even though you messed your things on your own and no one else is responsible for what happened, I feel sorry for you. I don't think poker is the solution for your troubles anymore. Get a decent job at least and start grinding during the evenings if you really think you could still manage to get a hold of yourself and play well. 30k is a lot of money to make from a scratch and if you base everything and all your income on that, you gotta be a robot to play your A-game.

How about your parents, are you still homeless in US or do you have a roof above you?

Also, if I were Alex, I couldn't imagine that paying back would make up for all the ****ed up things you did. Losing the 30k is probably not nearly as bad as the other stuff you did to him and his money, after all he did to you. If you locked the door and nothing was stolen, would you still have told him the truth?

Also,

[?] True

OP is an idiot. Scamming your backer for part of your daily stake money is enough to get you killed in some places.

Oh yea, you must have really f***ed over your parents before this happened or they would have helped you out. You deserved whatever you got, but I hope you can pull yourself up.

Oh, btw, did you tell Alex the WHOLE truth (stealing money from daystacks etc), or did you just tell him that you left the door unlocked?

I think if it was made up he woulda made himself look better so people would feel more for him but idk i guess the worse he makes him look makes it look more real? alskoguiaghlqetga F U OP (either way....) If someone is nice and trusting enough to lend you money let alone alooooot of money DONT **** IT UP AND STEAL FROM HIM. you deserve everything that happened. (if it did...)

Not true. Some parents are more demanding than others. I have a friend whose family has abandoned him because he moved to Spain for a year and didn't continue his studies instantly when graduating from high school. I also have a friend whose family treats him like **** because he chose to go to work on transportation instead of studying to be an engineer of some sort like his dad.

Although I do agree that a person like OP must have caused a lot of bad things to lots of people, including his family, before realizing what kind of a jerk he was and maybe still is on some areas of life.

I appreciate everyone's advice. Hopefully, you guys can take this seriously and not just laugh it off as some made up story. If I wanted to make up a story, don't u think I would have portrayed myself in a little bit more favorable light? Instead, I told the truth, exactly how it happened. Of course, the story makes me look like scum. But then again, karma is a crazy thing and like everyone has been saying all along, I guess I got what I deserved

Just to answer a few questions:

1) I told Alex the entire truth, including the part where I was taking 50 Euros before I left. That being said, I didn't tell him until I met up with him the second day.

2) Before leaving for France, I basically ruined any sort of decent relationship I had ever had with my parents. My father recently got laid off from his work. I laughed in his face over the phone, told my mother I didn't need her help any more, that I was going to make it by myself etc. Really screwed that one up. Since getting back to the states, I told them I want to make amends and we are currently in the process of getting me back home as soon as possible

3) I have a place to stay in the US. However, I don't have a job yet. Will have to work on that once I get back to Ann Arbor. Pokers been my job for the last three years so having virtually zero work experience will make things a bit difficult

Once again, I appreciate everyone's advice. Its truly amazing how one situation can leave you with a life changing perspective. Everything that Ive taken for granted in the past, I know realize how fortunate I am to have
