Arians has worked with the Browns, Steelers, Colts (twice), and Cardinals and that's just off the top of my head, so there could be more. Is there something specific about the three year time frame?

Plus also, being a black coach 25 , 20, 15 and 10 years ago may not have been the most stable

I'm pretty sure the pats already have their playbook.

a bunch of unsuccessful GMs would be dumb not to take a flyer on some young stud coach like Flip and have him do the same thing McVay does with Goff (hurry up offense, calling audibles, reading the defense for him, making everything simple)

Is there some sort of source on this McVay calling the audibles bit? I'm curious as to how he's able to know exactly what the defensive alignment is from the sideline? Doesn't radio communication get cut off once the play clock hits 20? How does McVay read the D for him and relay that info during a play?

It's cut off at 15, the Rams line up pretty quickly. You can hear him in his headset

Seems like it would be hard to do that on every snap. 25 seconds isn't all that much time unless they use some sort of simplified nomenclature for their play calls.

Yeah, it's easy to look at any coach's resume & come to any conclusion you want based on how good of a coach he actually is & say yup, that's right.

I looked at a bunch of coach's resumes & it was kind of fun, but didn't really reveal anything compelling.

Hue has a particularly bouncing around resume where he's working a weird variety of jobs, but you can always spin that as he's learning everything so he'll be a great head coach & be able to oversee everything, etc.

I did note that Hue & Pete Carroll both started their careers as graduate assistants at Pacific, & Jon Gruden was also a TE coach there for one year.

Gruden & Hue overlapped at Pacific in '89 & that might be how Hue ended up on Jay Gruden's staff?

"obama, obama, obama"

greatest ob call ever lol. ****in millenials.

mcvay effect prob overstated but seems like a potentially decent positive for an avg/bad qb

So long as the coach is good I don't see how it could be anything other than a positive no matter how good the QB is.

Its absurdly hard to not job hop at any level of football above high school. Even high school has a fair share of it as well. Its especially true when you are early on in your career and require other means of income to survive on top of your 60 plus hour work week in football.

here's another way of looking at that...

1st job
promotion to D2
promotion to Pac 10
promoted after 3 years (QB coach > RB)*
promotion to OC (leaving here after one year is odd)
same job, much better program (USC)
there for 4 years*
NFL as RB coach
*not a program switch

any coach that wants to be an offensive coordinator will coach all the position groups at some point, or at least both the running game and passing game.

Sure, the profile is on the Eagles SBNation site, but it's still an interesting read anyway. So far his track record is pretty good for getting more out of his QBs than most. (I mean, he got Johnny Manziel to a positive TD:INT ratio, for God's sake.)

def sounds like their plan. i think it's smart, as the rd1 gap between sea/atl/car should def be smaller than the rd2 gap between mn and phi. as a vikings fan i'd prefer to play the rams over the saints but most likely going to have to beat the saints to get to the sb either way.

Rams in the 3 seed would have a good chance to face both @MN and vsNO on their road to SB and they'd probably rather just play 1 or the other.

Think it really probably has more to do with getting guys healthy than anything.

Would love to see the stats on resting starters and gaming your playoff seeding vs just playing hard every game - can’t help feeling that there’s a momentum loss/bad juju caused by telling your team it’s ok to lose a game and that you’re dodging one team for another
