Catch was fine, Gronk is a hell of an athlete, but he pushes off as badly as anyone I've seen since Michael Irvin.

It's cool when AB does this at 186, "beastly" when Julio does it at 220. No words when Derby does it at 256 lbs:

Also, if you are bigger, you usually have bigger hands, which makes one handed catches easier.

any team in the league is obviously in playoff contention with Rodgers. Look what JimmyG did to the 49ers...

The only thing that could hold Rodgers back would be coaching. Otherwise you can't construct a legitimate NFL roster that includes Rodgers and isn't in the playoff race.

We already know what Rodgers is capable of with a terrible coach

Garrapolo has been good, but seriously it's only been two games. NFC-W is shaping up to be a tough division. SEA will be fine next year if they can get people healthy, and LA is a young and talented team. There's no guarantee that the 49ers will be competitive next season.

The recency bias in this forum from people who consider themselves so much better than "casual fans" never ceases to amaze me.

He looked good with the pats and he’s looked good with niners despite a really poor cast but good coaching. He just beat up the best d in the league for more points than like 6 teams put on them combined with maybe one player that might start on most teams in hyde or Staley. I remain hopeful but I also know he could have a bad game this week vs the rams. Sea is getting old though especially in the secondary where there strength is. They’ll still be good but I doubt great anymore.

"I don't know what a catch is anymore" has quickly become the catch phrase of everybody who 1) doesn't understand the catch rule or 2) doesn't like the catch rule

But it's being called very consistently

Dude had a solid game but I don't think 21/30 for 242 yards counts as beating anyone up, especially since he had like 130 yards in the first quarter and then did jack **** for the rest of the game while Bortles kept giving the ball away.

The issue with the call yesterday that overturned a TD in the Pats favor was that it was not clear and obvious that he didn't have possession until he brought the ball into his chest. Both people in the booth and lots watching on TV who know what the catch rule is thought it woulnd't be overturned, so how could it be clear and obvious? (Same thing was argued for the overturned TD in the Pats favor vs the Jets, but I can't remember how close that was.) Now that NY makes the calls, it really seems like they are trying to make the best call based on the video evidence available, rather than only overturn calls when there is clear and obvious incontrovertible evidence.

The overturned TD in the Pats favor vs the Steelers was clearly correct and an example of people thinking the catch rule is dumb.

And re: "I don't know what a catch is anymore, " how many people knew one butt cheek in and one out counted as a catch before last week?

There was definitely not incontrovertible evidence to overturn the TD call, as booth booth announcers controverted it, as did many watching the game at home. Yes. Like Tyreek Hills catch yesterday. It was ruled that he was out of bounds when he caught it. There was no good view that his first foot wasn't completely in bounds and the call stood.

Considering how good the jags d has been all year it is an accomplishment.

That's fair. It's fair to say " I think it was 50/50 and shouldn't have been overturned". Though the ref clearly thought it was super clear. But regardless, it's crystal clear WHY he COULD rule it wasn't a catch (that by the time he gained control, his foot was off the ground). People who don't even understand that are... Willfully ignorant.

I think it seems like the Patriots get more calls (I'd like to see the 538 article cataloging all of the scoring/turnover/last two minute reviews to see what the actual stats are) because they're much less likely to make boneheaded plays like the Jets or Steelers that cost them games, so they don't put themselves in the position to get hurt by calls.

And if they do have a call go against them, it matters less for them than any other team. Their opponents need to make almost no mistakes and have close calls go their way in order to win, but the Patriots are good enough to overcome some bad calls, and if they lose a score now and then they probably make up for it later on so it's not such a big deal and easy to forget. Plus who cares or notices if the refs blow a call in a Broncos/Colts game.
