Eh, but it's literally the same role-- feed him high-volume short targets as the focal point of the offense. He wasn't particularly efficient before this year, either.

But the stat just said when the Dolphins' running back gets more touches, they lose.

Lovie Smith went from 2-14 to 6-10 when he got Jameis, and got fired because the Bucs were scared of losing Dirk Koetter, who they wanted to keep to develop Jameis.

Two years later, the Bucs are 4-11, and how much has Jameis developed? Naturally, Koetter gets another year.

****ing Giants signing David Gettleman. Guy chased away Steve Smith. For some reason, I expect him to do it to OBJ.

Oh no. Hopefully he will sign OBJ to a bazillion dollar contract ASAP because diva wide receivers make or break a team.

Being lazy, who are the other FA WRs this year?

Beckham, Evans etc have the 5th year option but will probably sign this OS. Can’t remember who the others are?

Edit:Sammy Watkins, Brandin Cooks,

They’ll be licking their lips after this

I thought Cooks' 5th-year option was activated.

Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee should be free agents as well. John Brown too. Every WR drafted in 2014 who wasn't a first-round pick whose fifth-year option was exercised should be a free agent, unless they already came to an extension.

Yeah, that list came from Spotrac, but definitely seems incomplete.

Cooks did have his 5th year option activated.

Most of those 5th year players will sign extensions though.

My question was clumsily put - I was more interested in which big WR deals will get signed this offseason and what the impact of Adams’ deal will have on them

Jordy Nelson will need to take a major haircut now that Adams has signed - has he being injured this year? You’d expect his numbers to drop without ARog but he’s only got about 500 yards iirc

Martavis Bryant will be interesting to watch - somebody might overpay for him

Edit - ****, forgot he’d lost a year

Yeah, Jordy Nelson has less than 500 yards and is going to be 33 next year, he'll have to take a massive pay cut. It's also possible he's just toast.

oh wow Josh Gordon is only ERFA, which means the browns only have to offer him the minimum and it's take it or leave the league. Jeez. This is a pay cut, he won't even get one million//year.

In fact, if the Browns do tender him, he can't be unrestricted till 2020. Holy ****.

This is what the packers do, resign their own guys. Adams was terrible heading into this year, I wouldn't have done it so I'm all for it.

He's probably toast, it's just that timing is so weird. He was doing just fine with Rodgers at QB and then he disappeared. Didn't do well in the one game Rodgers was back (but it was just one game). If he resigns with Packers next year, I would not be surprised if he were back over 1000 yds receiving.

Yeah, that's the weird thing. Even if his performance with Rodgers was a better indicator of his real talent level this year, his age means you're still taking a big risk if you pay him a lot for next year.

I would think so. Who even competes, Edelman? His peak certainly wasn't as high.

Davante Adams has been pretty damn good 3 of his 4 years in the league, seems like some people only remember 2015. The problem is what they are paying Jordy and Cobb, not what they are gonna pay Adams. (Although the concussion history is starting to get scary)

885 yards on 117 targets doesn't really move the needle for me.

His best year was 997 on 121 last year with ARod throwing to him. He just catches lots of TDs. Variance & such.

Also, his rookie year was 446 & 3 TDs on 66 targets. Hard to consider that "pretty damn good".

Cutting Cobb would cost like $3.2m & Jordy $2.3m, so they're not really obligated to pay them their full salaries ($12.8m & $12.6m respectively).

Adams has been the best WR on the Packers the last two years. Concussion history is the only concern.

Welker has to come into consideration ahead of Edelman I’d have thought. he had 4 or 5 really excellent seasons. Not the outside/game breaking threat of Jordy, so I’d definitely have Jordy ahead of him still
