Who is TJ gonna fight next? Cruz hasn't fought in over 2 years and I really doubt UFC wants him to have the title given injury/inactivity concerns.

Maybe Cejudo? But not really a superfight, seems like a risk that isn't worth the reward for TJ.

Maybe he wants 1 of the top guys at 135, but nobody knows any of them.

Cruz, Cejudo, or Marlon Moraes

Maybe TJ vs Cejudo and Cruz fight's Moraes?

A lot of it has to do with the availability of some other fighters, Cejudo has a much better chance if DJ needs significant time off.

This is a silly absolute. Cody wins what, ~40% of the time in hypothetical matches?
Hey i was rooting for cody, same as their last fight. I would have agreed with that 40% after their last fight, but not anymore. It was close (before the ko that is) last fight but it looked to me like TJ was much better now. I don't even like the guy, but really good fighter.

Good thought about the khabib-mcgregor fight, lets hope khabib stays active enough. If Khabib does to Mcgregor what he did to Barboza.. jesus, that will be hard/awesome to watch.

I dont think he will get the title shot but id put Assuncao in the mix aswell. He has a recent win against Moraes and is 1-1 with TJ. I wouldnt mind seeing TJ vs Moraes and Cruz vs Assuncao.

Assuncao is on a 5 fight win streak but I wouldn't put much weight in his split decision win over pre-bang TJ especially when TJ has since beaten him decisively. He's still a top ten guy so he's in the hunt somewhere but I don't want to see him fight for the title next.

If they fought again in like 18 months and both are relatively similar to how they are now, TJ is prob like -250

I know that isn't the question but once you've KO'd a guy 2x, that's quite the mental edge.

That Cejudo ankle thing was really f'n weird. Like he gets kicked in the wrong place and his leg just stops working and he rolls his ankle like 5 times, but then all of a sudden is fine 2 minutes later?

I think maybe it shut the nerve off kind of like trying to walk when your leg is asleep, but he claimed it was muscle damage so who knows.

Yah, makes sense. Kinda odd that he rolled his ankle so much, but then it seemed no worse off once his leg resumed working. I guess DJ thought that Cejudo was f'd, but in retrospect he really should have pressed the action against a guy with 1 functioning leg.

DJ should have moved up and fought TJ.

DJ is a ducker to the highest levels, he weighed the same as Cody & tbh he's leaner than Cody.

https://www.mmafighting.com/2018/8/6...ac-regulations

T.J. Dillashaw (135 pounds to 149.5 pounds = 10.7%) def. Cody Garbrandt (134.7 to 142 = 5.2%)

Henry Cejudo (124.5 to 141 = 12.8%) def. Demetrious Johnson (125 to 142 = 13.6%)

Those are the weighs after fighters have eaten and are fully hydrated with fluids as well. Cody definitely can make 125 and clearly Cejudo and DJ can fight at 135. This also shows that they need to eliminate the 125lb division because it's not necessary when the 125lb guys are the same size as the guys at 135.

DJ's got a future career as a Twitch video game streamer to protect. Can't risk getting mauled by monsters like TJ. Better to play it safe where the biggest risk is being laid on for 3 rounds.

DJ didn't exactly duck TJ, He said he wanted to get his defense record 1st, and TJ should fight someone else 1st to see if he can make the weight. He also said they can pay him more and he will fight whoever they want. This is all completely reasonable when it comes to fighters negotiating fight contracts.

He wanted a flat $2mill to fight TJ, that's not a reasonable request. DJ got paid like 250-300k to fight Cejudo & he wanted 7-8x the pay to fight someone who is 7lbs bigger. If it quacks like a duck then it's one. I'm sure the UFC was willing to pay both TJ & DJ $500k each + ppv points if it passes the threshold, which is exactly the kinda pay guys like Stipe & DC got for their fight in July & i think he gets ppv points for that fight as the hardcore fans really wanted it. Now DJ is left with no belt & probably $500k-1mill less money by losing to Cejudo instead of moving up & fighting TJ, he would've retained his belt as well.

does Conor Khabib beat the PPV record for UFC?
The MMA Thread Quote
08-06-2018 , 06:04 PM
I would think so. McGregor is just so white hot right now.

Timing isn't great, few weeks after Canelo/TripleG, in the thick of football season as well. But yeah, I would think it sets the record.

And if it doesn't, it's just because piracy has gotten way better.

Conor vs anyone breaks the ppv record probably, would imagine Khabib vs Conor with 2 months to freight train even more hype is a shoe in to break the record imo.

Conor is a heel, and heels sell according to the perception that they'll get beat. Khabib is the most dangerous opponent he's faced, so it stands to reason it will break the records.

People tune in to see Conor or to see him get smeshed. A lot of people are going to want to see this.

Is there a better way to gauge how much the UFC has fallen other than strictly PPV #s? It's too hard to tell with how easy it is to pirate these days. Maybe it isn't even that much less popular, but they're in a period of run bad with lame champs and most of the superstars not appearing much of late.

Reebok deal is very bad, but it made the books look good for a small window.

Then some run bad with GSP, Jon, Ronda, Conor(fighting Floyd), and pirating.

Bork too. Basically their 4 megastars and one of their few 2nd tier stars all disappeared. Anderson may have lost a bit of time staying elite too with the leg break.

Just sell like a quarter of the company to Conor so he has some incentive to keep going. Otherwise he probably just takes a few more big money fights then leaves for acting/WWE/random boxing freakshow bouts.

Weidman was also on his way to being a superstar and kept getting hurt and taking fights hurt. Then usada erased a ton of careers

They need to do WWE-style vignettes among the top guys for extra hype

Basically what Brock did after Cormier's win, but a lot more of them.

Don't think Conor will get smashed. Taken down and beaten is more likely.

Khabib is a good striker but seems to strike to set up the take down rather than going for the knockout.

His big weakness is his defense when standing up in that he really doesn't have any. He keeps his hands low and his chin high. Against Conor, that's just asking for a KO.
