Poirier/Ferguson next IMO.
Can Poirier have a quick turn around for Oct or november though? Dana said that he wants Ferguson on the same card of Khabib vs Mcgregor, the only fight that makes sense is Poirier vs Ferguson. I hope they push it back to Nov or even December & pay both Poirier & Ferguson big $ because they deserve big $ for fighting each other as they're both have rights to the #1 contendor spot, more so than Mcgregor.

Is the 12-6 elbow rule for all 12-6 elbows or just for ones to the head. Im not a big fan of the rule
\in that i dont know why 12-6 elbows are illegal but i dont have an issue with a guy getting punished for throwing an illegal strike.
Joe Rogan used to talk about this during commentary: when the rules were made the commission was scared that blow was too powerful and could kill someone (due to the old karate demo's with ice/bricks).

It accounts for Jon Jones sole loss (via DQ to Matt Hamill).

Hey anyone know if betting on UFC fights can show profit over a good sample size? I watch EVERYTHING but man sometimes the unexpected happens and was wondering if one of you could direct me to someone that knows what they're doing as far as betting so i can follow them or learn some things off them. Any help is appreciated!

On the 2nd episode of embedded for this fight DJ's brother in law is talking to him about moving up and fighting the winner of TJ vs Cody. I was pretty disappointed when DJ refused the TJ fight and honestly i dont find a possible TJ vs DJ fight at 135 that compelling. Would much rather see the likes of Moraes, Cruz or even Assuncao get the next title shot.

I think the DJ vs Cody/TJ winner has a good chance to happen. Yeah they won't be able to make a ton for that fight or anything, but there is no one else for DJ at 125 and even if DJ isn't a name he is a much bigger name than Moraes or Assuncao.

I like Cody's chances on Sat. His back was messed up the first fight and he couldn't really pull out given it was on a card where he had PPV points with GSP @ MSG. Good chance that ends up being the biggest pay day of his career.

true it was 7 years ago but cruz totally demolish DJ so yeah...
DJ at 135 isnt much of a thing.
Personally i just put the blame on DJ for not making money, his ducking everything except fighters he already beats.

I'd be calling Cody racist the whole lead up to the fight if i was TJ after these tweets just resurfaced just to throw him off.

Kevin Lee is maybe the best fighter in the division but doesn't get mentioned anymore.

I think i am a bigger diaz fan than most here so i really like that fight. Probably the best matchup for nate at the top of the division. Only thing that gives me pause is i feel like we are getting a khabib vs conor announcement soon if not today and all the rumours have that happening at ufc 229.

Feels like diaz vs poirer would have been great for the undercard of that fight as UFC need an insurance policy of someone that can fill in should anything happen. Maybe they have a kevin lee vs ferguson rematch on the undercard. LW division is pretty stacked, going to be some awesome fights over the next year.

They can still pull Diaz/Poirer off the MSG card and let them fight in October either for the belt or vs Mcgregor if one of those guys pull out + Ferguson can always replace whoever pulls out of the November card, it's no big deal. My concern is that Ferguson gets screwed in the process if all the fights go as planned, i have to assume that the UFC thinks November is too early for Ferguson to return from injury. I'd love to see them strip Holloway of the 145lb belt and have them book Max vs Ferguson in Dec or early next year for the #1 contendor after winner of Diaz/Poirier, would be a hell of a fight.

Yeah tony is getting the bad end of the deal as id have to believe there was some promise to poirier and nate that winner gets title shot for that fight to get agreed so quickly. I just want someone on the possible conor/khabib card cutting to 155 incase there is a last minute issue.

Brendan Schaub was saying that if conor wins then gsp is gonna cut to 155. Im torn on that one as its a big fight but hate to see another logjam at 155 just as its looking like it might start to play out.
The MMA Thread Quote

The UFC is partially to blame for a lot of these log jams. All of the fighters are highly incentivized to fight for the title. Equity wise it makes zero sense to take fights when fighters are in line for a title shot. The ufc needs to properly incentivize the fighters to fight more often. Makes zero sense a fighter should fight for the same amount of money on a two fight losing streak as the same fighter would make on a seven fight winning streak. The two fight losing streak fighter gives up zero equity to fight but the guy on a massive win streak who has a legitimate chance at a title shot has to give up a ton of equity to fight. Dana and the UFC has started to make interim titles and hallow title shot promises as a way to incentivize the fighters but I really think the proper compensation needs to be made to get the best guys fighting more.

Example: A fighter who makes 40k+40k on a five fight win streak can either take a fight or wait with a 30% chance at a title shot to make roughly 5x the money and if they win they get title fights until they lose and endorsements.

When you add Conor, Brock, or Ronda to the equation it gets even worse.

Nate must've got paid to comeback and fght Poirier. If he loses easily then gotta think that hurts his chances to fight McGregor though. Taking a big risk but guess he couldn't wait much longer.

Feels like Poirier should smash him but not the worst matchup.

Good for Poirier though, should make some good $ on that 1.
