He'd have to vacate the 145 belt in this scenario, unless youre talking about the interim belt
i mean technically he could win the lightweight belt before he officially lets his former belt go, no?

Sure but Dana has always said he wants guys switching weight classes and not holding multiple belts

He's not always the most consistent tho

One would have thought that about all Russians, but anyone who knows anything about Soccer will tell you that the Russian teams have all the skills and technique but when it comes down to it they are really soft mentally and fold when the going gets tough. It has always been a mystery to me why this is, and soccer is only one game, but it is a huge sport in Russia played by a large section of society and it certainly means something that the best players seem to be so soft. Not saying Khabib or other Russian fighters are soft, but most Russian soccer players are. It's a weird one.

I think sports training of the USSR generally focused more on technique and skill and that held on to the current Russians. The opposite tends to be the American system of putting huge value on toughness and grit over technique in training. Generally, American wrestling practice is very grueling but you can't drill technique as well when you are fatigued.

If McGregor has to move to Lw over the IV ban he's gonna get MURDERED.

Did you see the size of Tony Ferguson the other night and the beating he laid on the punk?

LW is a murderer's row - Khabib, RDS, Pettis, Bendo, McGregor wouldn't even be top ten LW.

FW it's only Edgar, Aldo, and Mendes he has to worry about.

I feel like it might go better for him there tbh He looks ridic drained at 145 and he was still dominating in a lesser organization before at LW but I agree LW is way tougher right now

Tbh though, if mcgregor moves up to lw due to i.v ban then it also means some of the 155lbers have to move up as well, its a cycle. You'de see more 145lbers moving up and same thing happens to every division.

Bendo, dos anjos, maynard, tibeau, khabib all look like they cut alot of weight to make the weight.

Good point.

I think Conor would kill Henderson. That dude is done for and several are now ahead of him imo.

Guys, also watch out for Gunnar Nelson @ Welterweight. His grappling is the best in the World and he has a whole new focus since losing a split decision to Rick Story. Currently ranked #11, he will run up a sequence and climb the rankings.

EDIT: Waiting for some Americans to be insulted by a claim that someone from Iceland (where even is it huh?) could be the best grappler around

love me some gunni. he's my favorite fighter without a belt right now, only behind weidman, joanna, and connor overall. love everything about his game and his demeanor

i love gunnar, but I do think it's hilarious that 99% of your thoughts are about conor mcgregor and the other 1% just happen to be about the guys he trains with.

I remember the RDA vs cowboy fight being semi competitive, but maybe I am mis-remembering. Felt like I remember a clear RDA win but not outclassing. Thoughts?

His grappling isn't even the best in the 170 pound division. Relax.

You are crazy in every way possible, bendo can strike + good wrestler n bigger/stronger than connor, he would man handle him i nthe wrestling n hold his own on the feet.

lolol@ gunnar being best grappler@170, nobody from ireland is the best or anywhere close to it in grappling, europe in general is probably years behind brazil/america/japan regards to grappling. Is gunnar even top 10 in 170?, i doubt it.

Gunnar is from Iceland and you're playing into his USA strawman (even if you're in Jamaica)

Also, when you say 'grappling' you're woefully off base. Keep it to jujitsu and even then ...

Gustaffson was out grappling Bones for stretches

Bisping has an amazing sprawl and great hips

Kampmann, Overreem, etc etc

You also didn't list Russia in your grappling primo's ... heard of Nurmagomedov?

He's a BJJ black belt under Renzo Gracie and even took 4th place at the ADCC championships in absolute category going up against heavy weights, he's also beaten world champions black belts at his own weight class. He's definitely got the best BJJ at 170.
