Yeah Chael did look seriously gaunt. Might not matter if he takes some opiates before the fight. I've always assumed fighters are all on painkillers during a fight, is that right, or is it all adrenaline?

And is this the first time a fighter's ever struck another fighter during a photo-op in the UFC? I don't usually watch the weigh-ins

sonnen is a great heel, but i'm going with the crazy-sounding, pissed off 6-year undefeated champion.

it's about respect.

eta: sounds like sonnen has blown his conditioning advantage, if he's going to be 33 pounds heavier by the time the fight starts. silva's gonna do some seagal ninja **** and knock him out.

hahahahaha didn't even notice Seagal was there

last time I saw him was in this appearance on Kimmel looking very obese:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWtB_hQpFEI

the audience was laughing at him at parts where there wasn't supposed to be a laugh, it was awkward for all parties involved

hard to watch an obese white man talk about his experiences as a martial artist in Japan and not laugh

good to see he looks a little slimmer at the weigh-in at least

Coming in a pound under shows he timed his cut better, too. Chael's perfect 185 probably means he killed himself getting there
Drawing a conclusion like that at this point is a little silly. Anyone who isn't an experienced boxing/fighting/wrestling trainer or nutritionist drawing any conclusions about how the weight cut might affect each guy is also silly. Especially when citing what type of drink the guy happens to be holding in weigh-in footage. We don't really know what these guys have been doing to control their weight, and they/their trainers know their bodies much better than we do.

Chael was funny to hear from for a while. Now he's just blowing hot air because it got him some attention.

Oddly, Anderson made a bigger arse of himself in the days before the fight. He's pissed off and I'm interested to see how this impacts his approach.

If Anderson's cardio is somehow slacking or he hits a big adrenaline dump and gasses then it might be another long night where Chael's a small favourite.

Personally I'm thinking an early round stoppage by Anderson but this can play out lots of ways. I think this depends more on Anderson because Chael's performances are much more stable.

Im hoping for a good fight between Ortiz and Griffin. Tito has said its his last fight and i think Griffin has hinted at retirement also so its prob gonna be an all out brawl for all they got.

we all know sonnen is entertaining in interviews and at press conferences but in the octagon his fighting style is always the same boring wrestling stuff. he rarely finishes fights and usually relies on a decision because his stiking and sub game are weak.

take down > hold the guy down > land weak-medium punches that score points but never KO a guy or cut him badly.

this is the problem with wrestlers in the UFC. they need to be able to sub/strike too and sonnen really can't. his only plan is take down and hold and win by decision. look at GSP, Jones, Maynard, Lesnar, Edgar, Henderson + tons more... all great wrestlers but can do other stuff.

sonnen is soooooo boring in the cage. hope he takes a slow beating like okami did. keep being made to get up. take that wrestling **** to the olympics. this is fighting.

^ Was waiting for you to say no touching of the hair either

LOL @ thinking "real" fighting is only done on your feet. It's a fight how the **** you gonna say the guy shouldn't constantly use his strength and do what he's good at in the octagon. WTF?

he had a point, but it sounds to me like he lost it. The problem with Sonnen's gameplan is that he can't finish. He's nearly incapable of submitting or TKO'ing Anderson. Even if he's a favorite to win an individual round, Anderson can end the fight at any time and a longer 5-round fight favors the guy who can finish heavily.

I was fine with him on Sonnen but like you said he really lost his way at the end. That's more of what I was commenting on.

For you UFC enthusiasts, who is fighting in the other two fights?
