Newb question: how do I go about watching UFC 246? I clicked on the banner on espn.com and it said I will be charged $84.99 + have to subscribe to ESPN+ (not sure what this even is). Never bought PPV before. I'm guessing going out to a sports bar to watch this isn't an option due to licensing?

The PPV is $64.99. However, in order to access the PPV you need ESPN+. ESPN+ is $4.99/mo and you can cancel it anytime.

UFC does around 20 shows a year that are broadcast exclusively on ESPN+ (not PPVs). A lot of people complain about ESPN+ but IMO at $4.99/mo this is a bargain. It's the PPVs that are outrageously priced. BTW, one can bundle ESPN+ with Disney+ and Hulu for $12.99/mo.

If you want to see which sports bars are showing it you can look at: https://bars.ufc.com/ The list will become more complete as it gets closer to the event.

This is a big event though which means bars will probably be packed. Some bars will have reservation options. Others you'll just want to get there early (at least be there by the start of the main card but really you should show up sometime during or before the preliminary fights which are airing on ESPN). These PPVs are ridiculously expensive for bars to order and as such many bars will require a food/drink minimum and some will have a cover. I believe Hooters has a deal with the UFC to broadcast their PPVs at all their locations and Buffalo Wild Wings may too.

Strip clubs like to show fights but they generally won't have sound. Most restaurants will have sound but you can get one of those tuning apps on your phone to play the sound if necessary.

Be aware of what other sporting events are going on as that can impact what is being shown at the sports bar as well as seating. A long time ago I went to a place that refused to put any of the TVs on the UFC PPV until the Dallas Cowboys preseason football game finished (it had not yet hit halftime, so I left). Pretty ridiculous considering how much the bar spent on the UFC PPV.

Thanks Dream Crusher. I found one that appears to be perfect and will call them to try to make a reservation.

I only just got to see the 100m final at the '92 Olympics because the bar I was in in Spain didn't want to change the channel from the handball game that was on.

How much ppv buys do you guys think this event does? It's one of the weakest cards i've seen in a long time but is headlined by the biggest star, does this ever do less than a million buys?

Seems very unlikely that it does less than a million buys.

Mcgregor better ko Cerrone within the first round or else he's going to gas with all the size he has added. It looks like he even had to cut some water weight to make 170 here, he and his team clearly downplayed his size leading up to this fight.

Have they even come close to 1mil buys since they moved to ESPN+?

Main event card down to 5 fights as Alexa Grasso weighed in at 5.5 lbs over (lol).

ESPN isn't releasing PPV #s so we have no clue what the exact #s are. I assumed PPV #s are good considering Dana White has said 2019 was the best year the UFC has ever had. That being said, the way Conor was talking it sounds like international has really blown up as a money maker for the UFC. Conor says he made ~$50 million for the Khabib fight and said he could make ~$80 million for this fight due to some of the international deals they have in place now. How truthful any of this is, who knows.

Really though, if you want to know how big this event is look no further than the gate. Tickets sold out in 1 day to the tune of $10.6 million. If that figure sticks that would make this the fifth biggest gate in UFC history, just behind UFC 200 ($10.7 million) and just ahead of Aldo vs McGregor ($10.5 million).

Yeah, pretty terrible. Women tend to have more trouble making weight though so it is what it is. Main Cards are always 5 fights though. They just move an undercard fight up to the main card. This time they moved Brian Kelleher vs Ode Osbourne. Personally, that would have been like my 7th choice to move to the main card but whatcha gonna do?

They just had an hour long pre-game show on ABC. First time i can remember anything like that happening. It took awhile but I feel over the past few days the build up to the fight and really gone up

I co-sign on ESPN+ being a good deal as was mentioned by Dream Crusher above. I had UFC fight pass and only really used it for the live fights. I get alot more use out of ESPN+. Has alot of football(soccer) on it and other live sports I watch and the library is pretty decent too with some old fights and other ESPN shows.

Surprised that Conor is such a big favorite. Optimal strategy against him is to bash that lead right leg with low kicks, and Cowboy is particularly adept at that.

I appreciate things like showing myles garrett (I know shocking he's into MMA) while totally ignoring Baker Mayfield literally sitting right next to him

Sometimes you get the cards that are weaker in star power but have great fights to watch. This card definitely didnt deliver in that sense.

Anyways hopefully the old Conor is back.

I think a head kick KO by Cowboy would be the most exciting way to finish this card.
