throwing and landing all those leg kicks make your shin hurt like hell after the adrenaline wears off. Don't think it's broken but conor's shin is gonna be purple for two weeks.

I thought the decision was correct. I had it

10-8 Conor
10-9 Conor
9-10 Diaz
10-9 Conor
9-10 Diaz

I'd have gone 48-46 Conor. Last round was really close, too. Conor getting a second wind surprised the hell out of me, I thought he was gonna die after the way the 3rd round went.

Oh wow, the 47-47 wasn't because Conor got a 10-8, it was because Diaz got one?

that's weird as hell imo. Don't see round 3 being a 10-8.

this is close, but I have rounds 4 and 5 flipped. agree with 10-8 conor in first. total domination plus a knockdown.

Conor won rd 2 on all 3 scorecards so he was up 3-1 going into the 5th regardless, damn

that was ****ing awesome. If only every card was that good. Pretty awesome to knock back a few cold ones and see a main event like that

My local was completely filled as usual but tonight all the seats were gone by 915 ... there was more interest in this card than UFC 200 here anyway

So rematch obv won't be for awhile. Not like this is the type of thing you need to "preserve", both guys can take L's and it will still make a ton of money.

Think CmG fights 2 or 3 fights inbetween and Diaz tries to make some $ off his newfound stardom and then they rematch maybe this time next year or around new years next yr

Im a absolute UFC newbie, what are the criterias for a 10-8 instead of a 10-9?

dominance in a round mostly. you being hyper effective, making your opponent very ineffective, or both.

a round is to be scored as a 10-8 round when a contestant overwhelmingly dominates by striking or grappling in a round.
http://www.ufc.com/discover/sport/rules-and-regulations

judges are coming around to using these more, used to be you'd need to decapitate somebody to get a 10-8.

A dominant round, basically.

It's very, very inconsistent as to exactly *how* dominant you have to be to earn a 10-8. In boxing, it's usually just 'get a knockdown, get a 10-8'. Much more messy and unclear in MMA.

oh and btw valenzuela i am visiting chile in ~3 months woooooooooot

yeah, conor can't really keep being champion while taking random fights in other weight classes. I'd absolutely watch Conor vs Diaz again, or Conor vs any high level 155er. But you can't take 3 fights in a row outside 145 and still hold the belt at 145.

Conor's got two options: Fight Jose Aldo at 145 or give up the belt. Smart move would be to fight Jose - the appetite for that fight is huge and I completely agree Diaz #3 can wait.

That 4th round cost Diaz the fight. I don't understand what happened there. End of 3rd McG was semi-dead and Diaz all over him. Then 4th starts and Diaz looks gassed from the get go and McG looks just fine.

only quibble is it seems hard to make the case that Conor lost round three 10-8 but only won round one 10-9. V solid judging overall tho. Super fun couple hours. I guess I don't understand the whole scar tissue thing, I think it's nuts that Diaz legit got the upperhand energy-wise by getting battered for nine minutes

None really.

The 10 pt. must system came from boxing, where it's much clearer. If you score a knockdown in a round, that's a 10-8 round for you (exception being if you score a KD and then get beat up for the entirety of the rest of the round, which is exceedingly rare).

In MMA, 10-8s are more common because each judge seems to have his/her own idea of what's important and meaningful in scoring as well as deciding how dominant a fighter was.

If fighter A takes fighter B down to start a round and stays on top the whole round, is that a 10-8 even if the actual damage is minimal? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

If fighter A scores a knockdown but doesn't follow that up with more strikes and/or their opponent isn't stunned by it, is that a 10-8? Sometimes yes, tonight no apparently.

MMA scoring would be the WOAT if amateur boxing weren't a thing.

I had it:
Conor
Diaz
Diaz
Conor
Diaz

which is feel is mostly obvious save rd. 2. I valued Nate's late work in the end of that round as being more valuable than the early KD, from which Nate didn't seem really damaged. I can easily see someone scoring Rd. 2 10-8 for Conor though, so like I said, MMA scoring is hard.

McGregor was very impressive in the first round and a half or so. Diaz got basically KO'd 3 times and kept coming back. Nuts.

More fighters should proclaim they won every fight the majority feels they clearly did not.

I would have put Conor at about a 15-1 dog to win round 4 after being battered in round 3 and seemingly completely out of gas. I guess it's possible that Nate had a terrible camp as he alluded to in his post-fight interview and wasn't able to flurry in rounds 4 and 5 like he normally would.
