In before Suter becomes a total bust. I honestly think he will be a fraction of the player he was with Weber on his side. It would be like Burrows without the Sedins

out: Jagr, JVR, Carle, BOB
in: L.Schenn, Leighton

still some money left to sign some ppl (if there's anyone left), could prob use a couple forwards, maybe a D or two if Pronger won't be playing...

I wish we would of got offersheet compensation for price. That would have been nice. Then we could have traded for a plug like Luongo.

Woulda got like 2 first rounders + a second. Never fair market value when it comes to offer sheet compensation. Unless it was a team like columbus that offered it

The Northwest Division has absolutely raped this offseason.

They got Yakupov, Schultz (cap hit vs potential makes him the best UFA in the league), Parise, Suter, Schneider (signed as RFA to be a starter), Garrison, and Wideman. These players will all have a shot at being Canadian/American/Russian Olympians in 2014 except for Schultz (and Wideman being a stretch...).

Not to mention the fact that RNH, Eberle, Hall, and Landeskog all had another (long) off season to bulk up.

Calgary has that kid Baertschi who only played 6 games last year but is going to be an immediate impact this year. I've seen RNH in a WHL series against the Oil Kings, and I've seen Baertschi in a WHL series against a much better Oil Kings the next year. They both were men playing with boys, but Baertschi was something special.

Not to mention Van is getting rid of some dead weight with Roberto "Riot" Luongo AND Sami "Out 3-4 Weeks" Salo.

Every team is coming back stronger, with the Oilers and Wild coming back as 2 entirely different teams. The Oil are still 1-2 pieces away from being a division favourite, but noone is looking past that team right now.

Should be some exciting hockey this year that noone on the East coast will get to see!

a bit more than that,
$4,701,131 — $6,268,175: First, second and third-round pick
$6,268,175 — $7,835,219: Two first-round picks, a second and third
$7,835,219 and higher: Four first-round picks

The teams that didnt have a steady established #1:

Lightning
Columbus
Toronto
(NYI)
Oilers
Panthers
Detroit
Chicago
Washington

Mostly suck so those pick have a lot of theoretical value.
Moreover, if we’re wiling to match up to at-least 6.5 then it means we getting at least 4 good picks. It also means there a slight possibility someone offers 7.835 (albeit minimal).

Drawbacks are we might be forced to match a 7m if the management is ******ed.

But honestly i’m fine with someone letting another team overpay while simultaneously getting fairly compensated.

We are not going anywhere in the next two years (with gionta gomez markov and karble on the cap). Might as well help us tank for a deep draft. And either take a flyer on a guy like Jonathan Bernier for a more favorable cap hit, or go for a buy low on a guy like Luongo. Hell, I would have been fine with signing Vokoun for 1-2 years.

I love Carey. He is good. But he’s also got a propensity to leave an easy one in for every miracle save he makes. He hasn’t done anything yet deserving of being paid 6.5m as an rfa imo. I like the value of the other alternative better.

Offersheets confuse me:

What happens if a team offersheets a player with a 1 year contract for 7.5 million, but the original team is willing to go 4 years/6.5 million (and in this scenerio the player would prefer the 4 year deal).

think it's match or walk away once an offer sheet is signed, no more negotiation

ya i guess thats a stupid question, the player and the other team would have already negotiated a deal and signed it, so the player has agreed, he just doesn't know which team he'll play for yet.

Btw im interested on your positions/opinions on my stated preferences regarding the Carey Price situation (or how it could have been handled).

Pros & Cons etc

I guess it depends if what your looking for is simply for your team to be competitive year in year out VS longterm plan to maximize CupEV.
