Identical for both. 13 years, $98 million, AAV just over $7.5m from my math.

LeBrun via Twitter says Poile and the Preds are furious that they were never given an opportunity to present a counter-offer.

Chances Weber stays in Nashville now next to zero?

Predators clearly don't need defenseman, after they signed Rinne to that 26 year, 15 billion dollar contract.

edit: Wat, it was only 7 years? My memory is dying.

As far as Nash and Carter are concerned, one has played in environments with good insulation and the other has no idea what that even means, aside from 6 games in Vancouver in 2010.
and 9 games in vienna, and 6 games in torino, and 9 games in moscow, and 9 games in quebec, and 7 games in bratislava. it's as if columbus held a gun to Nash's head and forced him to first sign for $27m and then five years later for $62m.

yeah, carter was insulated in philly 10/11 (too lazy to find other years) to the tune of 44% Ozone and 0.89x Corsi Rel QoC (over 1 in 11/12).

happy for Minny fans, they've done a good job supporting a mediocre team there since they got it back, nice to see the team try something finally. might not work out all that well, but it's worth a shot, could make for some fun years. don't look forward to the Canucks going there, as they always seem to struggle hugely (Luongo especially, so maybe that'll change now, hopefully), even when they aren't that good.

Welcome to Minnesota!

We have had enough of these years without a team to cheer for in the playoffs. Now we have a couple of guys that can make us maybe even Cup contenders. Only thing about this is that: IT BETTER WORK!!! We have no cap space anymore now.

Problem is, the Wild are still pretty bad. They'll be better, and I think they'll get even better in the years to come, but they're still a long way from contending for anything.

Glad they went to Minny instead of Detroit. Minny still isn't competing for much until the prospects grow up.

Have you looked at who we have in our farm system? Mikael Granlund and Jonas Brodin are coming up. We also have a pretty good goaltending duo in Harding and Backstrom too.

i'll say this, i hope Parise plays with Koivu bc that'll be a real sexy line that's tough to play against for a few years at least.

(and they'll be even better if the 3rd guy isn't Heatley)

Minny fans are some of the best out there though so they deserve a good team.

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

at least wangz fans were right, they were a packaged deal.

Spoiler:

in all seriousness, i just woke up and am shocked that they went to minnesota over detroit/philly/pens/back to their respective teams. Like T mentioned, they arent exactly contenders yet (even now). Im guessing it came down to the years on the deal, thirteen is a hell of a lot.

Re: NHL Offseason 2012 Thread

KaBOOM IMO.

I still can't believe we pulled it off. Wild are now immediately relevant. Not saying we are a cup favorite, but way better than 1 underdog run in 12 years. Parise + Suter added to Koivu, Heatley, Seto. And we did it while keeping Granlund, Brodin, Coyle, Dumbo.

So screw the haters I am gonna enjoy this one. Fletcher deserves a ton of credit for this.

lol IIHF Worlds. Even with an atrocious tournament in Torino as a 21-year old, Nash is a ppg player at the senior international level.

And can you blame Nash for earning a premium to stay with a dead end franchise?

There's no need to make this convoluted. I think it was pretty obvious what I meant by insulation. One player has spent almost his entire career on good to very good teams, where his performance wasn't the sole determinant in success or failure. The other guy has played on miserable teams with literally no help at all.

Move Nash to a situation where he's not the only guy, if not the guy period, and you're going to see a positive correlation. No, I don't have the ability to quantify this, other than I have a good grasp on how much more fun it is to play alongside guys who can actually pull their own weight as well.

I think the tier of guys in this league who have the kind of skill required to score 40+ is not nearly as big as some of us think. Nash is one of them. For that matter, Semin is too. They're probably not franchise players but they're damn good players who need a reboot. Both would be good acquisitions for contending teams.

Just a friendly heads up: you're not going to convince this man otherwise.

Granlund and Baertschi are my early picks for Calder next season.
