So far this year 3 secular bloggers in Bangladesh have been hacked to death. I think al Qaeda has taken credit for all three.

My favorite part of this thread is wil coming in to tell us how we CAN'T POSSIBLY question whether Geller should have held the event, she was legally exercising her rights and has no responsibility for the shooting. Questioning Geller is victim blaming and definitely not cool.

Of course, when a police officer is involved, the party should immediately stop exercising their constitutional rights, otherwise they deserve whatever consequences they get. Mike Brown, Eric Garner, hell even Tamir ****ing Rice... it's ok to question all of their actions according to Wil. The blatantly racist hate mongering organizers of an event specifically aimed at provoking Muslims? Beyond reproach.

It's not a ****ing Islam problem, it's a violent ******* problem. And every culture has them. Watch how fiery and angry a Patriot gets when you display an American flag upside down (which of course is not actually a sign of disrespect).

I'm sure this has been said 1000 times ITT, but just because you think the event organizers are hateful bigots doesn't mean you automatically sympathize with the violent would-be terrorists. And vice versa.
call me up when they strap on bullet proof vests and try to murder you.

Definitely more afraid of law enforcement doing that to me than some Middle Eastern terrorist. I guess if I attended Islam hate rallies like the one in Garland, it would be the other way around though. Those things tend to attract the radicals.

I love when people say silly things like this.
05-13-2015 , 01:06 AM
To be fair, you're many times more likely to be killed by a cop than a terrorist here.
05-13-2015 , 01:18 AM
Oh I agree, but it's just funny that people feel the need to say things like that. Yeah, I'm not scared of ISIS either, I'm much more likely to get run over by an ice cream truck backing up on 3 wheels driven by Wayne Newton. I just don't feel the need to express it, and I don't understand why other people bother to.

Yeah, we get it, it still doesn't prove any point.

Tons of people are legitimately afraid of ISIS though. And Ike's post (Wait til they slap on the bulletproof vests and try to murder you) was asking for that rebuttal.

Not many people living in the United States give a flying crap about ISIS. People were more worried about Ebola. Honestly the only people who care about ISIS are ones interested in foreign affairs.

Speaking of people saying silly things.
05-13-2015 , 02:49 AM
Well there's just no reason to argue silly points. You disagree, it's no surprise. If you think that the average American living in the US is worried about ISIS, great.

Ya no.

Americans see ISIS as a bigger threat to the United States than Iran, Russia, North Korea or China, according to a new CNN/ORC poll.

Overall, 68% say ISIS is a very serious threat, compared with just 39% who say so about Iran, 32% about North Korea, 25% on Russia and 18% on China. Nearly 9 in 10 see ISIS as at least a moderately serious threa

It's something like 70% of Americans think ISIS is a major threat. You should probably look at some polling data before just making things up.
05-13-2015 , 02:53 AM
Which is almost triple how many thought the same of ebola by the way.
05-13-2015 , 02:54 AM
Ok I guess you have a point. I think it's interesting that of all those listed only 1, possibly 2, could be a real threat, and ISIS is at the bottom, maybe 2nd to bottom, on that list.

In terms of foreign entities that could actually hurt the United States, Russia is the only truly capable country. They still have the military capability to actually really hurt us. China also, but on a smaller scale. Pakistan is the most volatile country, but only because we aren't sure of their intentions. Iran and North Korea shouldn't even be considered, and ISIS can't even govern their own people.

When we talk in terms of true threats, it should be put into perspective. ISIS couldn't come close to harming the US mainland, hell, China couldn't do it, the Russians could.

In terms of us invading them and getting into a prolonged war the situation/question changes. I wonder why people responded the way they did. ISIS is at the bottom of that list.

Dude the media has been non stop fear mongering for like a year.
05-13-2015 , 02:45 PM
Yeah. This Texas thing is being painted by the fearmongers as "ISIS HAS COME INSIDE AMERICA'S BORDERS". If you speak to my mother whose TV habits consist entirely of Phillies/Flyers/Eagles (no Sixers) games, and Fox News at all other times; you'll be told that Putin is going to make an alliance with China and ISIS to start World War 3 against the rest of the civilized world.

Don't underestimate mainstream America's ability to be completely and utterly irrational.
05-13-2015 , 08:13 PM
I think I'm watching the wrong news channels.
05-13-2015 , 11:43 PM
THEY WANT TO WIPE US OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH, WIL.

I should add that my mother is a high school teacher with multiple Masters Degrees. She's no idiot. Fox News is insanity.
05-13-2015 , 11:54 PM
Well, plenty of people wouldn't mind us being wiped off the face of the earth. ISIS just isn't doing it. They really don't have any capability.

The people who are suffering the most under ISIS are Muslims. It's a shame.

A friend of mine asked me why I don't watch Fox News at all and I told him that I could see the debate-framing and completely circular closed-loop function inherent in the programming. Watching that **** even with the intention of making arguments against it serves the system and edges one ever closer to insanity imo.

lol you could write out that exact same rebuttal for christian 'terrorists' hurting your feelings at a sporting event. Your rebuttal is ****.
05-17-2015 , 07:53 PM
Because Islamophobia is a problem in society and has led to things like multiple wars in the middle east that have been terrible for our country, not to mention the general discrimination they face. Meanwhile, attacks on Christians in the US have led to talking heads crying on TV about the War On Christmas. Hope this helps.
