Can't wait to see who he blames when the economy constricts.

Quote:
Oil markets are sending a powerful message. After reaching a four-year high in early October, the price of crude has collapsed by more than 25 percent.

These developments suggest the synchronized growth that the global economy has enjoyed in recent years is likely to be replaced by a generalized slowdown. The message of weakening demand on the oil front was reinforced by the falling price of copper.

Investors should heed the message being provided by Dr. Copper and Professor Oil rather than go with the optimism expressed by the Trump administration and the Fed. While the U.S. officials appear to be reacting to the faster economic growth that has already occurred, the commodity prices are a better indicator of future market behavior.

Global market predictions are pure fantasy. You might as well go to a palm reader. Completely worthless.

Not much new here, but solid article by Matthew Yglesias.

Trump’s latest interview with Fox News should make us glad he’s mostly too lazy to govern
11-19-2018 , 02:01 PM
From the Matthew Yglesias article quoting the Fox interview

Quote:
Wouldn’t it have been nice if we got Osama bin Laden a lot sooner than that, wouldn’t it have been nice? You know, living — think of this — living in Pakistan, beautifully in Pakistan, in what I guess they considered a nice mansion, I don’t know, I’ve seen nicer. But living in Pakistan right next to the military academy, everybody in Pakistan knew he was there. And we give Pakistan $1.3 billion a year and they don’t tell him, they don’t tell him—
This is just glorious Trump. He just can't help himself.

Trump set up gadaffi in beautiful luxury, all bin laden had to do was ask and trump would work out a price for a real mansion
11-19-2018 , 02:13 PM
That really is one of those phrases that you just have to stop and stare at because it expands your imagination of the possibilities of the human experience. No one would have intentionally thought to have said that, but Trump did.

During his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump frequently cited the book on the campaign trail as proof that he predicted the September 11 attacks that occurred in 2001. This is because he mentioned Osama Bin Laden in the book; however, Trump did not predict that Bin Laden would commit a terrorist attack against the United States in the book. Trump also incorrectly claimed (e.g. in a 2015 interview with Alex Jones) that Bin Laden was not very well known in 2000, and that in the book, Trump personally called for someone to "take him out".

Trump did, however, predict that a major terror attack (not mentioning Bin Laden or anyone else as a perpetrator) would soon occur in the U.S., writing, "I really am convinced we're in danger of the sort of terrorist attacks that will make the [1993] bombing of the [World] Trade Center look like kids playing with firecrackers." A bit less than two years after its publication, a major terrorist attack occurred, involving another attack on the World Trade Center, this time destroying the buildings, as well as an attack on the Pentagon.
Insightful stuff.

This part blew my mind:

Quote:
WALLACE: Bill McRaven, retired admiral, Navy SEAL, 37 years, former head of US Special Operations —

TRUMP: Hillary Clinton fan.

WALLACE: Special Operations —

TRUMP: Excuse me, Hillary Clinton fan.

WALLACE: Who led the operations, commanded the operations that took down Saddam Hussein and that killed Osama bin Laden, says that your sentiment is the greatest threat to democracy in his lifetime.

TRUMP: Okay, he’s a Hilary Clinton, uh, backer and an Obama backer and frankly —

WALLACE: He was a Navy SEAL 37 years —
This is, like, "I like the prisoners who don't get captured" level stuff. The Party of Patriotism doesn't give two ****s about your military service if you don't pledge 100% fealty to them. The adjectives Trump used are, of course, not even accurate:

Quote:
"I did not back Hillary Clinton or anyone else," McRaven said in a statement to CNN on Sunday in response to Trump's comments. "I am a fan of President Obama and President George W. Bush, both of whom I worked for."

McRaven said he admires all presidents, "regardless of their political party, who uphold the dignity of the office and who use that office to bring the Nation together in challenging times."
And yeah, we all remember John Kerry, this isn't new, except for how little they even bother to hide it anymore and how extreme it's become. Kerry was at least running for president with a D next to his name, McRaven is just a guy who criticized Trump.

Well, specifically trying to guess what the Indonesian market is likely to be at in 6 mos. is likely stupid. But it's a pretty good guess that what our orange furher is doing is going to have a negative effect on the US market (down another 450 today), and since the US market wags the dog to a pretty good extent, it's also a pretty good guess that global markets will **** the bed to some degree also.

The president went on to say, "It's funny, you know, that's sort of like the late, great, Justice Scalia. He went from pleasure, you know, lots of it - nine kids, wow! From all that pleasure to, now, paradise. And I'm sure he's looking down fondly right now on me, we had a tremendous friendship you know, one of the best. He once told me he thought I was the greatest president he had ever seen, and he lived a very long time, very long. And they said he was like the fire of the conservative judiciary, so it's really all just so perfect."

Reminded that Scalia passed away before he became president, Trump responded, "Well, you know, I'm just telling you what he told me, I can tell you that."
