The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

yeah increases chances of war if his domestic policy continues to get stifled

also once again proves on some level that the internet is such a small part of this world....Breitbart, Twitter Trump etc ripped Trump for continuing MiC stuff like this, but doesn't matter. People love the strongman and rally around the flag.

After seeing Brian Williams get hard and start singing Leonard Cohen the other night I think a major war from 45* is inevitable. The only question now is who it will be with and what will it be over.

NYT article about Democrats hammering Trump on tax returns as he attempts to create a new tax policy

Quote:
As President Trump focuses his attention on overhauling America’s tax code, he has considered turning to the other side of the aisle to reach a bipartisan deal. But an obstacle has already surfaced, dimming the chances that a “grand bargain” will be achieved: Democrats are sounding the alarm that reshaping the tax code presents Mr. Trump’s biggest conflict of interest yet.

A tax code overhaul gives Democrats the chance to again bring up Mr. Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns and to press for details of how his business deals are financed. That focus could also affect which tax code items, such as interest deductibility, are included in the overhaul.

Gingrich was on Hannity and said if we enforced no fly zone in Syria that Russia would get destroyed if they tried to challenge us there. Said their AF would stand no chance.

He did say they would probably do "other things" which I assume just means expand more though.

Only reason I mention it is because he seems like he may have Trump's ear or atleast know what the admin is thinking.
04-10-2017 , 11:41 PM
I'm gonna hope, but I'd also bet against Trump trying to do a no-fly zone without Russian support. Whether we could manage it or not is really unthinkable. It would not be possible without an absolutely huge effort with lots of shot down planes, sunken ships, killed people and possibly nuclear annihilation.
04-10-2017 , 11:47 PM
Yeah, he also said Putin wouldn't want to risk the international embarrassment of that.

I may be naive but I think it is going to fade, Assad goes back to killing people in other ways, US doesn't get involved and Syria continues its civil war.

Neither. Germany got rebuild pretty fast due to the Marshall plan and it being a industrialized country long before the war. As for Japan, it didn't have to rebuild that much and also was a industrial power before the war.

North Korea on the other hand is a country that isn´t even able to feed its people in peacetime. And the people got brainwashed for more then half a century, there is no viable infrastructure, no industry, and many things we just rarely know because the West doesnt care about NK at all.

The open secret is that nobody wants Kim to go, since nobody wants to feed 25 million starving North Koreans.

East Germany is still a economical struggling region even though the reunion was more then 25 years ago and billions were spend to rebuild what the soviets de-industrialized.
04-11-2017 , 12:46 AM
I've never heard that take before but feel 99% confident you are wrong
04-11-2017 , 01:16 AM
Well, even Iraq had 5M barrels a day of oil so they're probably even above NK in terms of potential for economic prosperity if they didn't have all the sectarian violence after Saddam died.

But I was moreso asking from a cultural/societal standpoint, not from a economic sufficiency vibrancy standpoint.

What is the psyche of their people? Will they feel liberated? Haven't seen much written on this. Like you said, there has been very little coverage of NK in the West for awhile now. Really since W included them in the axis of evil they have been largely off the public and journalist radar.

And when most people go there, they are completely kept from the horrific aspects of the country and just given propaganda.

It does kinda feel like Kim falls 1 way or another in the somewhat near future, just wonder what that makes the future of that country like. If I had to guess I'd guess he lives in exile or something rather than blaze of glory but who knows.

Even during this whole ordeal Trump continues to refrain from criticizing Russia, while his surrogates are finally forced to speak out due to mass political and social pressure. It feels to me like we're only 1 or 2 steps away from the **** hitting the fan for real. I've gone over a bunch of likely scenarios, and whether Trump is secretly working with Putin or not, WAAF. Just think about them for a sec.

In the meantime, Fox hosts and Trumpeters have been celebrating like Syria or North Korea actions were some huge victory for America, rather than the potential catalyst to a major war. They don't seem to realize how things could possibly go wrong when the world's pettiest, most vindictive counterpuncher is our military leader.

depends on what faction replaces Kim

I clicked on the the live feed of Spicer giving his press briefing yesterday, and only listened for about 5 minutes, but the whole time he was talking about the strike in Syria and it sounded like something from North Korea. He was saying how every middle hit it's target perfectly and that it shows how strong and great the US military was, etc. I don't watch those briefings often, but is that the way they all are now?

Pretty much. Spicer comes out and spends about 5 or 10 minutes telling the world what great things Trump has done recently. Then there's a bunch of Q&A with reporters that goes something like...

Reporter: Trump did this thing wrong. Why?
Spicer: No he was right because he's POTUS and you're not.

Every once in a while he makes a giant mistake and winds up walking it back the rest of the day, or there may be a special guest secretary or general. But for the most part Spicer ties himself in knots the whole time trying to defend every move Trump makes.

Speaking of the WH walking back comments from the press briefing...

Monitor says Syrian forces use barrel bombs despite U.S. warning, Syria denies

The administration is really painting itself into a corner with this interventionist tough talk. I understand how they might be feeling their oats after symbolically bombing an airfield last week, but they are really setting Trump up to retaliate with moves he wouldn't ordinarily make had his ego not been on the line. The most amazing part is how a person who cares so little about his credibility cares so much about his reputation.

I take notice that you aren't even willing to admit both parties are full of hypocrites and liars. Hero worship much?

Um are we gonna die?

This is not hyperbole. I would honestly choose any random person on earth over trump to be in charge of a military action.

He has to be in the bottom 0.00000000001% of the population in terms of qualifications for such a role.

SF (hippies)
LA (biggest)
Seattle (no more Starbucks)
SJ (isn't this just greater SF?)
Portland (LOL)

bonus: SD is probably first (thought you wrote SD instead of SF at first, even) because of the military presence
04-11-2017 , 09:59 AM
Yeah i forgot sd.

I put sj because it's still our nation's biggest tech hub
