Barack Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

Like many others I'm surprised and this was awarded to Obama too early. He has said a lot of what he is going to do but will he do it? He certainly won't accomplish all of it thats for sure. God Bless him for his accomplishments and what he stands for but man don't get on your knees for the guy. Sometimes I say I'm going to do something and then eventually neglect to do that thing.

Alan,

Quit the partisan hackery, it makes you look like a moron on this forum.

I definitely am trying to be less "confrontational" in my tone and posts on here. Quoting a lie and providing a source disproving the lie is pretty far from "partisan hackery". I edited out my dig at AM radio.

I think it's well deserved based on his stated agenda.

I also think he should be awarded:

1. Olympic Gold Medal, in case he is thinking of taking up the luge

2. Pulitzer Prize, in case he ever writes a news storey

3. WSOP bracelet in case he ever enters the main event.

4. Masters Green Jacket, I hear he's a heck of a golfer!

Slightly related; USA now the most admired country in the world, 7. to 1. in one year:

I think that's quite related.

Cheney's attitude was "**** you guys, I'll do what I want".
Obama, OTOH, clearly gives a damn about how the world see the US and wants to stay on good terms with other nations.

The article mentions changes in specific categories but I couldn't find a break down.

If we were talking about someone besides Barack Obama, I might sense some sarcasm here. I don't understand how anyone could possibly beleive he wouldn't win the masters if he entered, of course he would. He's barack Obama.

oh my god, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. They awarded the PEACE PRIZE to the leader of an army that's RIGHT NOW f'ing shooting at people. 2 WARS! CONTINUING AS HE ACCEPTS A PEACE PRIZE.

Orwell would be so so so proud
10-12-2009 , 12:26 AM
Politically, I think this hurts Obama since it's so obviously undeserved.

With the way you twist current events, damn right he would.

I can't really see how it hurt him other than perhaps being a minor distraction, it's not as if he awarded it to himself. The only people it could hurt are the Nobel committee and past and future prizewinners (from a cheapening of the award).

When the right makes accusations of Obama supporters being mindless messiah worshippers they'll cite this as evidence, even though Obama and his supporters here in the US had nothing to do with him winning of course.

As you said, the biggest damange is to the award itself. If I were a past winner who you know, actually did stuff, I'd be pretty ticked off.

Twisting events? LOL. Facts are that the commander of an army that's at war with 2 countries just won the Nobel peace prize.

On the plus side, Obama's got some style: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITT6bYYGVfM
10-12-2009 , 02:10 AM
Its less that he is a commander of an army that is occupying 2 countries, it is that he has INCREASED MILITARY SPENDING AND MOVED MORE TROOPS INTO ONE OF THOSE COUNTRIES. And the whole thing about continuing to expand his predecessor's use of the state secrets privilege, blocked detainees in Guantanamo from getting trials because it would be embarrassing, opposed members of the previous administration being prosecuted for war crimes... his whole foreign policy has been one giant facepalm.
10-12-2009 , 02:32 AM
we'll have to agree to disagree... i trust obama is doing what he can to end the wars and leave a stable government behind.
10-12-2009 , 02:41 AM
yea but come on the Noble Peace Prize for what you could do in the future? In that case this guy should have got one
10-12-2009 , 04:44 AM
Don't know why everyone is so suprised.

It is a LONG time since the Nobel Peace Prize has actually had anything to do with peace. Over the last 10-15 years it has become a prize to award to "one of the lads".

Tremendous summation in one photo. A+

All I can say is, it's too bad the Nobel Foundation didn't invest all their funds with Madoff.

Why doesn't 2+2 just delete the politics forum and move you all over to free republic? You might be happier with the level of intellectual honesty there.

How many people know that Neville Chamberlain's older brother Austen Chamberlain did win the Nobel Prize in 1925?

So we have the list of great families that have won the prize including:

Chamberlain
Kissinger
Carter
Gore
Obama
