Interesting.
This was reported on Dutch TV evening news, there was a video of the King arriving in SA and a huge welcome home parade was seen.
He's been out of SA for 3 months for medical reasons, in USA for operation then to Morocco for rehabilitation etc.

Also, today the dutch queen canceled a trip to Oman because of the demonstration there lately, there are dead and injured.

Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi has told the BBC he is loved by all his people and has denied there have been any protests in Tripoli.
Is he really that delusional, or is he just "crazy like a fox"?

Well in china, we have already some protests in the form of the so called walks, thousands of people walks in the city, without saying what they protest against, sort of silent protest

A little from column A, a little from column B.

The Chinese seem to be very good at subtle forms of protest, like when they would "accidentally" break small bottles to protest against Deng Xioaping (the Chinese characters for Xioaping mean "Little Peace" but are pronounced the same as the characters for "Little Bottle").

UK freezes £1B of Gaddafi assests

Lol at it being just now that they're thinking "hmmm you know maybe some of these assets aren't all legitimate..."

When should they have done it? The revolt hasn't even been going on two weeks yet. Should they have done it before then? Good luck doing business with a dictatorship you're taking a massive crap on in such a way. We'd wreck our economy if we applied that rule consistently.

Yeah, western goverments chill for a week or two before they act or even talk, they are waiting to see who has the upper hand first LDO.
Revolutions have been very productive, cought everyone off guard, 40+ year dictators and tyrants are falling apart within weeks heh.
It's great to see that and it's funny to watch western goverments scratching their heads.

I love how, no matter what, it's always the West's fault somehow.

Quick, who else should get their assets frozen?
03-01-2011 , 12:00 AM
I've been getting my assets frozen all winter.

BBC Jeremy Bowen has an interview with Gaddafi, lol insane some of the things he says.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12604102 - can't find the video clip yet, sure it'll be about though.

Ah, so there are no demonstrations and the people love him.

Yeah, we love their money as long as they're in power. Hypocritical but super standard.

A vivid account of the fighting in Brega:

This saga might get the Band of Brothers treatment in a few years.

I doubt it, not enough white heroes.

This has the beginnings of a full out civil war. Military action in order to help the rebels now when it could be most crucial might be a good investment.

The problem is - apart from a no-fly zone - giving aid to the rebels effectively seems next to impossible.

They're asking for both the NFZ and targeted air strikes. Surely the US military already knows where they could hit Gaddafi hard with a few well placed air strikes.
03-02-2011 , 07:33 PM
Yeah, some airstrikes seem to be helpful. Mentioning "support" just made it seem like some kind of mission coordinated with the Libyan resistance and even if you could get soldiers and material there in time there is noone to coordinate that action with.
Maybe I was confusing what 13th 4postle said with someone asking for ground troop support a few days ago.
03-02-2011 , 07:40 PM
Well, every missile spent comes with a heavy price, in oil, and Libyans know this all too well, that's why they are very apprehensive to anyone meddling in their affairs.
They feel vulnerable to Gaddafi's jets and helicopters though so they are willing to accept any action that will ground whatever's left of Gaddafi's air-force, for now...
So, no-fly zone is an oportunity to get on the oposition's good side which opens up oportunities for good oil deals down the road but it's a short window that any oil hungry nation can and most likely will exploit.

Of course if a west imposed no-fly zone comes in place there will always be naive people who think that it was done out of the goodness of our big western heart.
