So that means you need to annoy the **** out of someone simply trying to do their job because you are a selfish ******* who can't spend 30 minutes without playing candy crush?

It pisses me off that they make you turn electronic devices off too. Reading a book - fine, reading an e-book - WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!

I was behind a guy at a stoplight who was on his cell. The light turns green and he doesn't go. This insta-enrages me ofc. I have my windows up, but I mouth quite clearly "shut the **** up and drive".

Just so happens he's looking back at me (I probably honked). Anyhow, he ends up behind me and then starts following me, right on my ass. At one point he tries to get up beside me but I happened to be turning to go home, so he sailed on by.

Also, my mom flipped a guy off once. Maniac pulls his truck into the middle of two lanes at an angle, leaves his truck running, gets out and starts yelling and approaching her car.

Whenever I think back about this, I wish I'd have had the presence of mind to get out and drive off in his truck. In the end, we just swerved around him (yay turn lane).

I'm it saying I do that. I'm just asking if the rule makes any sense at all. It has no purpose whatsoever.

Hey, old man. You're a hinderance to our society's progress, please stifle yourself.

Airlines can't test all equipment brought on so they have no idea whether it will interfere with the machinery or not. There has been so real scientific studies on this and the best they have is anecdotal evidence ('one time this guy bought on a phone and used it and there was a weird sound, when he turned it off, the sound stopped'). With that in mind, I don't think it's fair to ask people to stop using these devices just because they have no idea whether or not using them will make the plane crash and are unwilling to do any actual testing to find out. Having said that, it is half an hour or so, so it doesn't bother me that much, but I can understand the POV of those who do get very annoyed.

So they bought a plane ticket without knowing of this policy before hand? If you are that hard pressed for your phone, then drive and stop being a whiny little bitch. It really is productive to have the flight attendant have to ask you 5 times before takeoff to power off your phone, I am sure they love babysitting little ****s like you.

I am pretty sure that the signals coming from the phone don't do anything at all. I can understand wanting the electronics to be on airplane mode so they don't interfere with anything (they won't interfere anyway, but I can understand the logic), but having the device on will do absolutely nothing. Do you not think that someone has forgotten to turn off their phone? Maybe some old people who don't even know how to do that? I am pretty sure that isn't messing up anything. It is all about making people feel safe.

Another thing for flights is how they only let you take 100ml of fluids through security and only if it is in a plastic bag. What difference does it make if it is in a bag or not? What will the liquid do?

There was a bombing attempt in 2006 which involved liquid explosives, it's purely down to that, I was set to travel that day and had to wait till the next day, probably one of the first people in the world to be subject to the rule.

So they let you on with 100ml? And that magically makes everything ok? So if you need 1000ml of whatever to make this liquid explosive, what stops these crazy terrorist from getting together with 9 other people once they get passed security?

Yeah, it's just like the electronics rule, a very wide blanket ban that makes little sense.

ya you're doing a pretty terrible job defending your stance here

You're pretty sure? Based on what, how have you reached that conclusion? Are you pretty sure enough to trust not only your own life but also the life of 100+ other people?

In the airplane thred or make a wiki-marathon I remember reading what Jeedz said: Basically, they don't think it affects anything, but they can't be absolutely sure and no airline or airplane manufacturer wants a national(worldwide if in America) tragedy because of a pink iPod mini.

I also vaguely remember there were *some* plans that didn't have proper shielding around the instrument cluster that were affected by certain electronic devices.

I think it's pretty dumb, too but like, whatever, man.

Using 10 people to bomb a plane seems like overkill.

I think wristwatches should be banned from airplanes because the batteries may interfere with the plane instruments. You can never be too cautious when it comes to plane safety.

I never turn my phone off on planes. I just put it on airplane mode and into my pocket. Standard, right?

Yes, except I don't bother with airplane mode, if I have a full charge.

That's pretty standard. That's what I do. It's just frustrating that they don't let you read on a tablet or Kindle but will let you read a paper book or the newspaper or something.

What else is the flight attendant supposed to do? How are they 'productive' in any sense by their normal duties?

There has been no testing? Or no testing that has proven that phones do anything to the equipment. I am pretty sure it is the second one. Do you really think that if there was a chance that they affected any of the electronics on the plane, that they would let people carry phones onto the plane?

This probably should piss me off to some degree, but it makes me start rage swearing in my car:

When there's X amount of lanes and one of the outside lanes has a split coming up, usually to allow an extra lane for turning, and the people in that outside lane don't pull forward when they're waiting at a red light to make it easier for people to get into that extra lane. Like, I don't expect them to get right on the next person's bumper, but these idiots leave these huge gaps and in heavy traffic back things up that much more by making it more likely fewer people will be able to access the extra lane.

There are two of these I use a lot and it drives me ****ing nuts to be towards the back, need to use that extra lane, and see these huge gaps between cars in front of me. FFS pull forward you ****ing morons, you've left enough room for a whole car to pass through there.

Per the TSA: A 4oz bottle of cologne is a deadly hazard but two 3oz bottles a-okay.
