Ditto, lol. I was watching these old people file into the theater and thinking "oh wow they're going to absolutely hate this" but none of them left and they seemed to enjoy it quite a bit.

It really was less violent than I expected TBH.

The french dairy farmer dude takes out a corncob type pipe to smoke, then the nazi "Jew Hunter" guy takes out this super elaborate and ridiculous German pipe? It was hilarious for some reason.

easily the best movie of the year - should win the Oscar for sure.
Probably the greatest film ever made
QT established himself as the greatest director of all time with this masterpiece.

[x] Way too much use of spoilers in this. Just put spoilers in the thread title and have done with it. Obviously a thread about the movie after its released will have tons of spoilers. Anyone who really thinks they can read this without seeing any is ******ed.

American/British 3 fingers is same as your 4 finger without the pinky.

I went to the afternoon matinee Friday afternoon and noticed a lot of baby boomers going to see this movie. I found it comical that almost all of them asked for a ticket to see Inglorious ummmm bas....ummm that one, pointing to Inglorious Basterds.

How bout using your middle, ring, and pinky as 3 fingers? That's my approach. Wonder if that would pass as an international acceptable usage?

Interesting trivia on imdb:

Eli Roth and Omar Doom were nearly incinerated filming the fire sequence in the theater. During tests the flame temperatures reached 400 degrees centigrade, and during the take the set burned out of control and the temperature of the ceiling above them reached 1,200 degrees centigrade (2,000 degrees fahrenheit.) Quentin Tarantino was seated on a crane operating the camera in a fireproof suit, and none of them wanted to back down and ruin the shot. Fire marshalls said that another fifteen seconds of filming and the steel structure would have collapsed, incinerating the actors. Roth and Doom were treated for minor burns.

One question and one comment

Spoiler:
Did they explain how they captured BJ Novak (little man?) Not sure if I missed something or if it just isn't that relevant.

and

Spoiler:
I loved the Landa character but my only quibble would be him trusting Raine to hold his end of the deal with zero repercussion. They portrayed him as being far too smart for that.

Spoiler:
yeah, the biggest problem i had w the film was that the whole ending resolution was a pretty huge deus ex machina. agree that it was pretty obv raine was not going to just let the deal play out as landa hoped. i was kind of expecting him to just casually shoot landa immediately after the gun got handed over. dramatically, i really dig the way it actually ended (esp that unabashedly self-referential final line) but looking at the plot objectively, it was a little ridiculous that the main villain just turned himself in after having pitt and the other basterd in a totally inescapable situation.

still enjoyed it quite a lot, but it's def not a perfect film

Spoiler:

i liked it for this reason: it shows that landa is not a nazi who believes in the german facism but more someone who uses the nazi-system to live out his "skills" (e.g. interrogation, which would explain why he is appearing sometimes so childish while doing it..he enjoys living out his skills). overall he is just an opportunist. and he is too smart not to realize that germany got no future in the war. the whole what beast would be a jew scene at the beginning. if you take what he is saying in the way he meant he is not insulting the jews although he is comparing them to rats (he is comparing them to rats because the world hates them for no real reason, the world could also hate squirrels instead. so in this sense, he is only looking for his own benefit while cleary knowing how stupid the system he is part of is. i mean, he is giving a shix if hitler dies or not. for some reason i really like this, cause of that he is not only a nazi in a high position , but in some way something even more villain-like/devilish. its like saying he is even too bad to be just a nazi. at least out of my view)
