I like Bill Burr a lot but listening to him is sometimes painful - I respect that he's self-aware but still it gets on my nerves that he's so ignorant about the world. He said he doesn't know if Bangladesh was a country or a city, wtf. Same goes for Doug Stanhope and Jim Jeffries, both super funny but pretty ignorant. Is there any comedian on a similar level with a more, well I don't want to say intellectual, but I don't know the opposite of ignorant, world-view?

Basically who's the funniest comedian that could point out Bangladesh on a map? Name its capital city?

Discounting actual South-Asian-American comedians obviously.

totally different style but lewis black is a very intellectual comedian and probably the most intelligent act is eddie izzard but his act is much more historical vs talking about current events.

Do you think maybe that's part of his shtick?

If you watch some of his recent appearances on talk shows, you'll see he is genuinely ignorant about a lot of things, but he's hilarious so meh

I think it was his last appearance on Conan where he was spouting quite a lot of nonsense, but he's a comedian not a politician

She was great, definitely the best of the openers in our 4 person sample's opinion.

Glass sucked, List was just ok.

Emma's dick crushing joke killed all of us, whole thing was solid though!

Louis crushed obviously.

Dennis Miller seems like he is pretty smart, although I have no idea what he's talking about the majority of the time.

Dennis Miller is a dumb person's idea of what a smart person sounds like.

Would you still say that if he didn't become a weird late-term Republican? Watching his HBO show didn't have me thinking he was remotely stupid.

Greg Proops is probably the most well-read comedian out there. The title of his podcast is somehow truthful and sarcastic. He's not incisively funny like Burr or Stanhope, though. I don't think you'll find somebody like them who's bursting with knowledge. Too many points spent on being hilarious to have enough leftover to be an encyclopedia, also.

Completly agree about Burr. Love his standup but his podcast is mostly a constant stream of word vomit.

I think Brian Regan is the best at exploiting his own stupidity for comedic value without being annoyingly ignorant. He's more self deprecating, as opposed to Burr who's more self rightous about his ignorance.

I saw LCK on celebrity Jeopardy and he crushed it. He's clearly a well read dude, even if his comedic style doesn't show it.

I'd like to add Jimmy Carr to that list.

My money's on Colin Quinn. See "Long Story Short", for instance.

Burr's confession to ignorance is both his schtick but also an excuse made to preempt what he knows to be foolish comments. Kind of a way to absolve himself from getting facts wrong on what he says.

But if he knows that they are indeed foolish comments, then he isn't as foolish as he appears.

Was pumped to watch Burrs new special tonight but it was pretty disappointing. Had a few laughs but it didn't come close to his previous specials or seeing him live. Other than one bit it felt like a rant filled MM podcast

Yea, it really wasn't that great, and I love all his other specials.

ya I haven't seen the taped special but I did see him live 3x in the past year and while he's always great live I didn't really see a good hour special in the material he was doing
