I've had my s3 since August 2012. It's been acting up a bit lately so I'm doing a full factory reset.

Should I root it and put on a different ROM etc? What are the pros/cons?

Is now a good time to buy a no-contract phone? I'm looking at Nexus 5, LG G2, Moto X, or waiting for the Moto X+1 or OnePlus One

got the android update on my nexus 5 today, changed the dialer and contact app a bit, but for the life of me i cannot figuire out how to use either the dialer or "people" app to better manage my contacts.
Is there a way to not show the image associated with a contact?
very few of my contacts have actual pictures so instead it show a big giant color box with a giant letter in it that corresponds to the first letter of the first name of the contact.
annoying as hell.

So I have an S5 and the charger works really slow when connected to my computer vs. the wall or car adapters. Is there a reason for this? A way to correct it?

I've had this issue with my s3 but I assumed it has something to do with voltage ie phone chargers are designed to charge phones and USB ports are deisgned for other stuff (cable is the same of course). No?

I did some research and seems like it's basically USB charging is just really slow compared to other types so that seems right. Just happen to use my laptop a lot on the road and too many outlets needed can cause issues. Helps that the battery lasts a looooooooot longer than my other phone so charging isn't as big an issue.

On my Nexus 5 I got faster charging by disabling MTP in "USB computer connection" settings. Not using USB for anything other then charging anyways (AirDroid, hi).

Settings -> Storage -> Top right corner (three dots) to get into USB settings.

I had that one active. Changed it to PTP so I'll see if that helps. Thanks.

I couldn't get to the option the way you said, had to go another route, and it made me have one picked. :/

Then you should get a microUSB-USB cable that is wired for charging only.

Just heard back from Purolator about my claim for my broken tablet. I declared the value on my shipment at $500 but ASUS only declared the value at $100 so that is the max value I will be able to recoup. ****ers.

Hoping for good things to come from the Google I/O this month.

My Note 2, out of nowhere, is reporting "No Sim"

It's AT&T, and rooted, but it's been roted for like 8 months now without issue.

Tried swapping sim cards, didn't help, rebooted a million times.

Tried restarting the phone with the sim removed, powering off, and adding the sim

Not an overheated battery

Any suggestions?

Because this sucks

Make sure the contacts are clean. I'd blow the slot with canned air, then pick them with something not metal.

I know they are having the event in 3 weeks but keep hearing they wont actually release the new one til end of july at the earliest.. Would def be little mad if they came out in 3 weeks, we shall see.

I've used both Strava and Endomondo, and they both seem more accurate than that. Both have been fine for me, although Strava underestimates the calories I burn on my bike by a fair bit.

Is the Nexus 5 screen not very durable when it comes to scratches or have I just been running bad?

I`ve been using my N5 for 6mos as a work phone on industrial construction sites and the sceen hasn't a scratch come to it yet.

My launch date n5 gets abused pretty good with no issues with scratches. I've notched the raised plastic rim around it I guess bouncing it off the floor, otherwise it's just about good as new.

Sometimes I forget and put keys in the same pocket as my phone. It's resulted in minor screen scratches.

Just upgraded to an S5. Considering 'tempered glass' for screen protection. Any thoughts?
