to everyone waiting for / touting the oneplus one: at least wait until there are retail units out that got tested by someone reputable... as an example, androidpolice said in their first hands-on article that the sound volume of the earpiece is atrocious. (meaning you can't make a phone call unless you're in a completely empty / quiet room). now, i have no idea if it's really that bad, if they simply looked at an off-unit, if it's maybe only a preproduction software bug or if there's a general problem etc.
we're very close to entering an "era" where phone (specs) improvement become really marginal. some people won't even notice a difference beetween full hd (1080p) and qhd (1440p) if they have the units next to each other. same for 2 or 3gb ram etc... choosing a phone just based on a spec sheet seems stupid to me.
not saying at all that it's a bad phone, the price is definitely very attractive and i'm a big fan of the 64gb availability as well as the low surcharge for it (as well as the CM stuff in general). but there are many other factors that decice in the end if a phone is suitable for you or not (and the difference between the 2.3ghz snapdragon 801 model and the 2.5ghz one normally isn't one of them).

I have a samsung galaxy s3 and today when i woke up my battery was at 43%. my problem i guess is, when i go to bed my phone is usually around the 97% mark and when i wake up its usually at 84%. so this is kind of alarming to me. i put it back on the charger for like 45 minutes before i had to go to work and it got up to 73%. by the time my 8 hour shift was over it was at like 20%. this is not normal for how my phone usually runs battery charge wise, so im just wondering if there is any advice someone could give me?

Have you restarted your phone? If so and that didn't fix it, try removing the battery and putting it back in. Sometimes an app or process goes rogue and rebooting the phone fixes that.

Is Sony still terrible at giving timely software updates?

They used to be the worst major player out there, to the point it was offensive how bad they were at updating to the latest OS (or at least the second latest OS). But sure the hardware of Sony phones has been top notch for a long time, esp the last two generations.

fyi...

From the OnePlus post-announcement AMA on Reddit yesterday:
...There seems to be concern over the ear piece. Any comments on that?
This is a confirmed software issue that will be resolved.

N5 definitely works on ATT LTE nationwide.

Have them put that in writing

Then take an unlocked N5 working on their network and ask him to explain himself. Or show it to the district manager or file a report with that state department of fraud and misrepresentation. ( Arizona has something like that).
But thats just me, i like putting BSers on the spot, hard.

I switched from IPhone 4 to the S5. I like the phone but have a big texting problem. All my friend with iphones basically cant text me because their phones think i still have an iphone and default to imessaging me. Ive tried everything suggested online including calling apple, texting stop to whtaever number, having them delete and readd my phone number, etc. Nothing works. Anyone get this fixed?

Maybe I am blind but skimmed the whole thread and didn't see the fix. This is driving me crazy and nothing i can find fixes it and apple just tells me its fixed when it isnt.

I found this in the 2013 Android thread, if this doesn't work you might scan that thread for other posts...

Had the same exact problem and did the same things to try to solve it. Only thing that I have come up with to fix it is to go on the phone that is trying to text you and go to settings... Under imessage there is an option that says "if imessage fails send as SMS". Doesn't really fix the problem but it'll fix it for that individual phone. PITA.

Article about the problem on Macrumors today:

Apple Customer Support Claims Apple Stymied by Phone-Switching iMessage Glitch

The lesson I learned from reading the article? Disable iMessage from the iPhone BEFORE switching to another phone/service.

phresh,

Not sure if I mentioned it, but Lookout seems to be pretty good for lost phones. It can pinpoint it, have it scream, lock it, etc. from the internet.

Wow, currently the Amazon app store is running a couple of crazy deals that have a unique side effect of giving you $20+ dollars of free amazon app coins to spend on whatever apps you want.

Amazon put a BUNCH of Android photo apps on sale for FREE. When you buy each app (for $0), Amazon gives you "100 Amazon Coins" worth a total of $1. Buy ALL the listed apps.

You should have over 700-1000 amazon coins at this point. Now go to the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas app page. The app cost 699 coins BUT there is a promo where Amazon will give you another 2000 coins with the purchase.

The apps are listed in the #1 post of this slickdeals link:

Free apps that offer Amazon Coins

Have fun! LOL BTW, I have no idea how long this deal will last until Amazon fixes it.
