I've had the m8 for a month now, the battery life is awesome and I'm very active with my phone. I can get 24 hrs out of a charge no problem.

I'm sure I read the Sony z2 has an awesome battery life. If i were against getting a Samsung I'd get that right now. Really good phone that borrows tonnes of the better ideas from the competition.

I bet the LG g3 is good too, but im out of the loop about how good.

You guys read over the specs of the Amazon phone ? I'm going to go look at phones tomorrow. Will update.

Re: Amazon phone - some cool concepts, but I suspect most of them will be gimmicks. I'm fairly deep in the Amazon ecosystem (Prime, MP3s, Kindle, etc), but the fact that it's a heavy Amazon skin and doesn't even have Google Play is a pretty big turn-off for me.

But the Mayday feature alone might make it a good phone to buy for parents...

It is extremely average and uncompelling in every way except perhaps if you are very heavily bought into the Amazon ecosystem. Not letting me use the apps I have bought from the play store is a big problem for me.

It's not even cheap, basically the big reason the fire tablets are worthwhile.

about battery life: have a look at http://www.anandtech.com/show/8031/h...ate-2-review/2 , where you see a good comparison of some major phones atm. (the ascend 2 is just the newest review, that's why i picked it. the phone has sick battery life, but is otherwise not really suitable imo)

Yeah not sure how the specs/features justify $200 on contract. That suprised me. Can't imagine a ton of people choosing that over the other 200 dollar phones available.

I had heard a rumor re: if you're streaming amazon instant video then it wouldn't count against your data. Did they say anything about that today? I didn't see it.

My bluetooth is stealing priority over Chromecast. I have a Marantz receiver with bluetooth and during the middle of streaming music (not video which the receiver obv couldn't play so that makes sense) bluetooth connects and Chromecast drops.

For now I'll just disable bluetooth but I'm hoping there is a way to prioritize these.

I was running AOKP with Faux's kernel until they added some CAF elements. Now I'm running stock (still with Faux's kernel) with Xposed framework and the Gravity Box module (among others). I've found that Gravity Box give me just about all the features I liked without a custom ROM. I think the only feature it doesn't have that AOKP did was quiet hours which I was able to get from another app.

That being said recently I've been thinking about trying out a new ROM

on the swiftkey keyboard look in the lower left, there is a button with 123 and the swiftkey symbol.
press and hold that button until a menu box appears,
choose settings
choose layout
touch the box next to number row
done

Chromecast will soon allow direct screen mirroring from your phone. I'm super pumped for that so I can play games on my TV (such as Zelda OoT). That + a PS3 controller paired via Bluetooth = awesome.

I can sort of do that now via the beta Mirror app and Cyanogenmod 11, but it seems to slow my phone way down. Hopefully doing it via Chromecast is less power intensive, but it could just also be that my S3 can't handle it. Either way, doing it natively from a Google application has to be better.

Hmm, im not convinced with the look of L. Maybe when I get it on my n5 shortly I will be won over though.

Quick settings is improved in functionality at least. The battery life extension and faster smoother stuff under the bonnet is nice though.

The watches are more interesting to me than before but I'm not sold on them yet.

Android TV is mine after my holiday when I have some spare cash. Looks really nice.
