In case you're interested, it was remarkably easy to set up my new car mode profile to be triggered when the phone connects to the car's bluetooth.

State > net > bluetooth connected
Then the menu showed me all paired devices. Didn't even need to be in my car to set it up.

Is there no love for the Note 4 around here? The function of using the camera to turn text into an editable S Note is amazing.

anyone here manage to find a way to use google map navigation while plugged in your car and keeping a decent charge? I usualy close my phone when im on a long straight stretch and then it uses almost no battery but whenever i have the visuals one i drop 1% every min or less and thats while plugged.

It's kind of weird that a normal gps with the same features has no problem getting enough charge from a car while a super phone on power saving/low lightening cant.

Dropping 1% per minute seems excessive, but one possibility is that your charging setup doesn't support the quicker charge protocol.

Basic USB connections only charge at 500mA. If you get the right USB plug, though, it can charge much faster. Most USB charging plugs do ~1000mA (1A), but some can do up to 2.1A for the devices that support them (typically tablets).

So that's worth checking into. Did your car come with a USB port, or are you using a cigarette lighter adapter?

Does anyone know of an app that will allow me to change media volume independently for different apps?

I have some games that use the media volume that I want turned way down while still having the speech synthesis for voice texting, etc. set louder.

you could preset media volume with tasker for specific apps. if you're rooted, there's maybe another option, but no idea.

I'm not rooted.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Tasker app.

Tasker will allow me to set volume per app, I looked at the description for tasker, but couldn't find enough details on it.

Before I go buy it, can you tell me what all will tasker give me?

Thanks.

Go to the devs website (google Tasker) and there is a week-long free trial apk available there.

would like to expand my S5's memory. What's the best 128GB microSD card on the market? Wanted to get Samsung, but it only goes up to 64 gigs...

128GB is the biggest MicroSDXC capacity right now and I can't imagine buying from anyone but Sandisk. I'd be surprised if many others even offered it.

afaik there's only a sandisk 128gb; last time i looked into it, it wasn't worth it for me and i just bought a 64gb one.

$38 for the 64GB, $115 for the 128GB

I'm guessing the new iPhone is using 2 chips then, right?

Do LG phones have a Sense or Touchwiz type skin?

If so, what are people's thoughts on it?

Yes. All accounts I have read is it's very similar to whatever Samsung calls their current skin (natural ux?). Which is pretty close to android L's material design paradigm.

By most accounts Sense >> Touchwiz = LG as far as being close to stock.
I wish the N6 would get here already.

Hmm, the elephant in the room is that "stock" Android is far from perfect.

I actually think Touchwiz is closer to perfect with its toggles, for example. I just wish it was more customisable.

Anyone use AT&T as a carrier? I'm looking up to see if I'm eligible for an upgrade but it keeps telling me I'm eligible under this AT&T next 12 plan. Anybody have experience with this? Currently have an iPhone 5, I want to switch to the samsung galaxy s5

Can you describe more what you like about the Touchwiz toggles over stock?

Have you used both? I think it's self evident how they are better. For one they are actual toggles and not shortcuts to the settings menu. The biggest bad thing is there are eight that I'll never use but can't hide, yet I can easily ignore them. I'd also like to hide the toggles at the top of the normal notification shade but meh can't win them all.

They look pretty bad but Samsung is probably going to embrace material design heavily (they are already ahead of the curve) which will sort itself out shortly.

Miui toggles are really good for the same reason and very customizable. I cannot wait to see the v6

Well, I have a GS3 and used Touchwiz for about 1.5 years. The last 9 months or so I've been using Cyanogenmod 10/11. The reason I was asking is because I think stock Android has the toggles you're talking about, but I'm not sure.

Here's what I think of when I hear Touchwiz toggles:

And here's what I think of when talking about stock toggles:

I don't see how those aren't actual toggles just like the TW ones. This image has fewer of them enabled, but it's customizable and you can toggle airplane/bluetooth/wifi/location and such. Plus it just looks better.

The thing I'm not sure about is if stock Android allows you to get the top row of mini-toggles in the standard notification drawer like TW does (the left images), but I certainly have it in CM11. And you can still go right to the Quick Toggle drawer on stock Android by swiping down with two fingers instead of one (or with one finger from the right, but I think that was the old behavior?).

I dont have my Nexus 5 anymore to check, but I am pretty sure in stock (IE not cyanogenmod as you are using) the only squares on the right that are actual toggles is bluetooth and airplane mode. WiFi is just a shortcut to the WiFi settings page, the same with brightness and location. I dont recall if the network was a true toggle or a shortcut.

In stock none of the toggles can be customised. That is a cyanogenmod addition.

Stock android has no toggles in the notification shade (ie the one on the left). Both let you go to the toggles/settings shade with a two finger swipe.

I agree stock looks better, though the current version is a bit better than those screenshots whatever version that is. I am expecting a big overhaul when we go to material design, which will just require an overhaul of the colour palette because its all circles already.

Okay that clears it up for me, thanks. Yeah, hopefully Touchwiz looks better when they re-do for Material Design.

So I'm planning to upgrade my phone in the next couple months. Seems like the big releases are going to be Moto X and the Note 4/Edge? The (HTC?) Oneplus is mentioned above but don't see any results when googling. Any other big releases to keep an eye for?

In just looking at the websites for the Note/MotoX, a lot of the stuff for the Moto looks cool, and like the customization options. I think I'd actually like the smaller screen, 5.2 seems like plenty. Still almost a full inch bigger than my current phone.

The difference in RAM (2GB Moto vs 3GB Note) did stand out though. I use a 2.5 year old Droid Razr Maxx, and it is just wildly, wildly frustrating. It freezes up all the time, phone will ring but it won't show you who's calling/let you answer half the time - I have to stop myself from throwing it against a wall at least twice a week. I would really love to not be in this situation in 24-30 months. I figure RAM would be the first place to help with problems like these?

Lastly, have never done it before but am thinking of trying to hold out for a Black Friday deal. Anyone have any experience? Do new phones get discounted, or is it more like "Get a 6mo-1year old phone for cheap/free?"

I'm in the same boat as you. Currently using a Note II and will likely be upgrading in the next 3-6 months. The Note II has been by far the greatest phone I've ever owned, so I thought for sure that I'd pull the trigger on the Note 4, but I've gotta admit that the new Moto X looks very impressive. I also like its size at 5.2".

The Nexus 6 might be announced sometime in the next month or so as well, so that will certainly be something else to consider.
