If may be your location is turned off? I dunno, what mine does is initially show the numbers then gets the data and showed something useful.

It also works a lot better with names rather than something generic like coffee.

Fwiw I still think the Google dialer is far from perfect, but it's still farther ahead them anything else right now.

You've mentioned some rooting stuff twice now. I don't really know anything about it, but I'm a nerd so definitely interested in messing around with that stuff. What do you plan on doing with this rootpower?
Me personally, probably no more than the new dialer and maybe I'll try some xposed framework modules which I've always wanted to play with but never got around to. I've never been big on rooting or ROMing tbh.

Location services on, i did check that, tried saying things like Starbucks and it worked .. so more specific is better

I feel like occasionally I'll have good service (3+ bars), but my phone just won't download data for some reason. But if I can toggle the radio off/on by either resetting the phone or toggling airplane mode, then it seems like the data gets immediately "unstuck" and goes back to normal. Any thoughts?

I had this happen for a period of time and actually built a Tasker button to refresh mobile data. But I realized it was just in a specific spot I was moving though every day and I probably just didn't have service (even if it said it did) and the time it took to reset probably was how long it took me to move to another spot. So, ymmv, but there's two thoughts.

I don't think it's a specific spot because it just happened while sitting at my desk at work where my phone almost always works as normal. So that makes me worry there could be something wrong with the phone, although it's a super minor issue.

Regardless, Tasker button is a good call. On the g2 there was a data button already (like the WiFi/Bluetooth) buttons, but I don't see that on the s5. So I'll try this Tasker button thing.

Plus I have small hands, and the S5 is almost the same size as the G2 (my old phone), and the G3 is substantially bigger. Finally, although you do get used to buttons on the back, it is most definitely inferior than on the side.

I don't get all the Samsung software hate. I mean yes, there's probably a lot of crap on there I will never use. But none of it actually intrudes on my experience. And some of it I do use. Maybe older versions were worse, I dunno.

Also, @Phill, terrible dialer? Wut? It's a grid of 9 buttons. Also, isn't the beauty of android you can just replace it? So... who cares anyway?

ETA: Oh yea, and I really like the dimpled leather-like feeling material on the back. I seem to be alone on that, so come at me.
It wouldn't be in issue if the default internal was 32GB's, but when only 16 is sold in a lot of places and half of that is bloat that's pretty lame, even w/ an SD slot (which from what I understand can't be used for a lot of stuff)...

Also the size difference of G3 > S5 is only very slightly greater than S5 > G2 fwiw.
Still I do wish the G3 were a bit smaller. Patiently waiting for a Nexus6 or MotoX2.

Yea even if there was a data settings button, single tap >> double tap. Tasker button works great.

Ah, well I don't store anything on my phone, but I can see that. I guess that's why people root.

Yea I was incorrectly associating screen size with phone size. G3 is a huge screen size jump, but it takes up more of the phone, so all good there.

With that said though, I wasn't going from an S5 to a G3, I was going from a G2 to a G3, which would be 2x the jump.

Mobile data on the notification shade ribbon. It might be hidden depending how you set it up so two finger swipe it down, but it's probably still there to the right if you scroll the toggles along

In the continuing saga of my ASUS TF700T, I contacted ASUS regarding the heavy damage my tablet incurred while being sent back to me. They are going to repair the damage free of charge. Awesome.

Although, it was so badly damaged I think just replacing it will be cheaper than repairs but that's not my decision.

I started with an s2 and then upgraded to an s3 and rode that thing for like 18 months until it bricked. I switched to a Sony z, not z1 or z2 as I'm sick of paying top dollar just for whatsapp and facebook. I'm not doing any intensive stuff that needs 8 core processors or whatever they are up to right now.
I had also rooted both of my previous samsungs and really I like the interface better for samsung but the Sony has a great battery. I'm pretty active on my phone and if I don't charge it at work my Sony still has like 50% left at least. All my sammy's were done by 4pm if I didn't charge them. Big thumbs up to the Sony phone which to me is the most important. Can literally get a full day of use (meaning past midnight) with them.

I've been playing around with the fingerprint unlock on the S5. It's not as bad as the reviews said.

Apple's is better, but as far as secure unlock goes being able to do anything that someone watching can't copy is nice.

You'll likely get it when it is available to the public, tbh.

I'd say that's like early August?

My gf just upgraded to a Note 3 and the "Like new certs" of note 3's are out of stock on ATT's site.

I looked in depth at all the reviews on trusted reviews of the top android phones and I'm still using an IPhone 4.

I'm not sure which phone to go with.. I don't like the looks of the front of the M8. I like the G3 by the review and video a lot but they're not exactly thrilled with the battery on it.

So I'm debating between the S5 and the G3. Any input?

I forgot to check if the G3 has better after market batteries.

Also, if you use wifi on your phone in one location and do not turn it off when you leave, your phone will constantly search for wifi networks near you which will also affect your battery life.

My N5 battery life definitely has decreased since 4.4.3 but I do not consider it to be a drastic change. This is probably due to some of the apps I consistently use throughout the day.
Install wi fi power saver. Install this and when your wi fi is disconnected for a set period of time it shuts off searching for a network. ie when you leave your house you don't want your phone searching for WiFi. App is great and saves a lot of battery.

The battery life is so good on it a so called better 3rd party battery won't be that big of a difference. Plus I'd only recommend official batteries given the higher than expected cases of "bargain" Chinese batteries setting on fire.

But Samsung always wins the most peripherals and replacement parts game.

I'd recommend going to a store and handling them before buying to get a feel for build quality, texture etc.
