Every time I'm sending to someone i have to triple check the receipt address

Later today I'm moving everything over to my nano s ledger and I'm sure I'll need instructions + a YouTube video and it'll be stressful etc etc

Maybe you're all just futuristic mastermen but I feel like it really shouldn't be this complicated and stressful

And if you do screw up you're done for. There's no calling Bank of America to get it sorted out. It's hard to imagine another context where such a vast amount of wealth could vanish instantly, accidentally, with zero recourse
All addresses have a built in check sum so if you typo one character or delete one character or something it's likely that you client will not let you send the coins as it will be an invalid address. Of course you have to make sure you're sending to the correct address, but checking the first and last few digits is usually sufficient.

Ethereum, in my view, has taken on at least three hard Computer Science problems. It’s unclear if any of them can be solved in a practical sense. What’s worse is that the broader Ethereum community believes that Ethereum already has the solutions or is close to having them.

People seem to think Ethereum can solve these scalability problems. I hope they can, but to put things in perspective it’d require some new theoretical advancements in distributed systems that researchers didn’t discover in the last thirty years or so.

In the history of time, obv anything that hasn't been done before, seems undo-able. More particularly very innovative stuff, like flying or creating POS :-) and scaling.

I don't disagree with you there. I think it's definitely fair to say "I'm investing in Ether because I think Vitalik and Vlad can solve this problem that hasn't been solved before." but not fair to say "Ethereum has already solved the scaling problems that Bitcoin hasn't been able to solve.", which a lot of people do throw around naively.

Then some young programmer will say "they totally can, you just don't understand how." And then like a month or a year later we learn the answer.

Hi, bit late to the party here .. sorry if it's been covered, but I've trawled the internet for the answer :

What's the quickest/cheapest/easiest way to get crypto?

I got some Ether via coinbase , but the fees are pretty damn high! Is there a better way??

TIA

I heard for the UK a decent option is to change your pounds for euro at your bank then send the euros to kraken. Same for cashing out. Cash out with SEPA in euro (free) because there is like a 50 pounds fee to cashout GBP.

edit: ok. There is a 10 pounds fee when you deposit GBP at Kraken and a 60 pounds to withdraw. So depositing GBP straight up might be worth the 10 bucks if you don't want to deal with the hassle of opening a euro account at your bank.

Another option is to buy bitcoin at localbitcoins.com, trade for ether at any exchange (poloniex, bitfinex, kraken etc..) then withdraw the ethers to your wallet.

Excellent, thank you. I will have a read.

Tough to know what to do. Could have missed the boom.. but still having a little punt!

Getting a small amount of Litecoin.

The 'experts' seem to essentially have no idea what's going to happen. Some say there's a crash coming, some say ETH will be bigger the BTC. Hard to stay objective and not lean towards what you 'want' to believe!

Your call but the near future is looking great with Ethereum. There is a conference coming up on the 14th of june which takes place in China where big businesses will be discussing how they will integrate ethereum to their processes. Last time it happened in late may, the price went from $90 to 200 in like 5 days.

Longer term there is also a massive upside with Raiden / Metropolis / Kik crowdsale / continuous announcements from the EEA and sometimes next year Proof of Stake should be coming out which will be massive assuming it goes well.

Then you have news like that http://en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/54677 where the upside is just massive. There is most definitely a bubble going on (especially in tokens imo), the thing is to guess if we are near the top or not and I personally think we are far from it.

Hey hey,

Complete crypto newbie here. I was looking to just buy maybe 1k of Ethereum just for fun before I start doing more research into properly investing. I live in Australia, what is my best bet for a safe option with the lowest fees?

Thanks in advance for any advice

EDIT: Also trying to get into the crypto grind for reals, possibly a bit late. Complete finance/stock market/trading whatever newbie. What are some good resources/ even forums to get me started? My friend advised me to start by studying basic investing principles/terms/functions/analyses.

Don't try to become a technical trader. You will be killed by bots. Blockchain is all about information, and there is a lot of it. Too much to read even if it's your full time job. Your best bet is to get some btc and eth, maybe 50/50 to start and then as you read more you can diversify your portfolio more or changing your weighting. I recommend just keeping it simple.

Is eTorro or Plus500 a viable option? Being able to set stop losses etc seems appealing.

Being CFDs and not actually buying the coins seems like it would help make things easier in terms of fees, purchasing and withdrawal?

Am I missing a big downside?

These things are largely unregulated (think gambling websites based off some offshore countries). You are also betting directly against the house so it does not take much to see that your interest goes directly against the interest of the website. I don't know of any instance where something shady has happened but since we are aiming for the moon, I would feel much safer storing my coins on my own wallet.

The fees will be here as well. On traditionnal exchanges it will be straight up 0.2% on every trade whereas these CFDs things usually charge on the leverage as well as the spread (imaginary numbers but let's say Ether is at $250 on coinbase, eToro will sell it for $252 and buy it for $248).

Cheers, originally I was just about to buy a bunch of it and sit on it. Any sites you'd recommend more than others for someone living in Australia? I hear Kraken, gemini and coinbase are the top, but more recently hearing the customer service for coinbase is garbage.

I can confirm Coinbase isn't great to work with! Took bloody ages to get my account set up and verified etc. Software seems so buggy. Not exactly reassuring lol.

Are there rumours stirring around any of the 'cheap' coins around that might be worth a punt on?

What is easiest way to store ETH, so that the ETH is only owned by myself, no onlinewallets or stuff like that. With btc I did the bitaddress generation thing offline and just saved the public and private addresses, which are easy to access when needed by importing keys to some wallet.

Is there something like this for ETH, or do I need to buy the trezor hardware wallet?
