Requested max 6/4
Approved 6/4 30 minutes later
Rec 6/6

I went to the bank to deposit this morning. ATMs at my bank don't accept foreign checks so I have to deposit at a teller. My last check was smaller and from a different site (both from up north) and when I deposited it I was asked a few questions but had no other issues. I went to a different branch this time and was told that it would take 4-6 weeks to process and I'd be charged a $25 fee. They also said they couldn't deposit it at the teller and I'd need to speak with someone. Twenty minutes later I'm sitting in the branch manager's office... he started by recommending I get the funds wired instead because it would be faster and cheaper for both me and the bank... but given posts in this thread I said no thanks, didn't want to go through the hassle. He was actually very helpful, they weren't stalling to call the cops on me, and it looks like I'm in good shape (aside being out $25).

They didn't specifically mention "collections" to me today but it looks like that's where my check is going. What sort of process do they go through?

I think it's simply a check that can't be routed/verified through the ACH system, therefore they have to send it to an outside processing company to be cleared through an outside path. The bank doing that would then be middle manning for you and them, and that's harder for them, so they send it off and when the money shows just give it to you. (Minus your $25 fee)

That's my guess, though. I had similar with a check I got for a car someone purchased but he was out of country.

From my understanding, it just means they wait until they actually have the money from the other bank (the one the check was drawn on) before they put the money in your account. Simple as that.

Dope. gg well played Bovada
You said this was the visa payout and they put the money back on the visa card you depo'd with. Is your visa a cc/dc from your bank that is connected to your checking/savings acct. or is it just a visa cc like a capital one card?

Is there usually a hold for a Canadian check? If so how long, has anyone had a hold or is the money instantly available? Check is only for Small triple digits.

Talked to a bank teller. My check has a 6-8 week hold and a $25 processing fee, but it has been accepted.

Was this a small bank or a major US Bank?

req 6/4
appr 6/5
Ship 6/6 - wagon train so
CIH ~6/13 est

Good enough more fun when it was 2 day but getting here fine.

I bank and the horse train bank, I know what they do, they buy the check from me (charge $5.00). Then my account is credited in 24 hours. They collect the check. I make sure the teller knows it is in US funds. Not foreign currency, but I run bigger balances in my account and have an account for 20 years. So I'm sure that helps.

I'm now waiting on proof of these allegations to show Bovada so that I can either receive another check or have the funds credited back into my account. This comes after the bank had released the funds from the first 3k check on Tuesday, but when I went to check my account today, I was informed that it had been frozen.

I'm really hoping that I'm not the only one that this has happened to.
Update: funds from both checks have cleared completely, and my acct is no longer frozen. However, due to reasons unbeknownst to me, my bank is "terminating" their relationship with me. I'm on my way now to close out my account and collect a cashier's check.

However, all of this is probably due to my unique extenuating circumstances.

Cliff's: if you want to ensure a painless cashout process, DO use a major bank to do so. (I suggest using a bank that rhymes with "face")

Also, if they arrest me for that second check being "fraudulent", I'll post a TR.

Just got a payout, small triple digits by check. Check arrived this morning, went to the bank to deposit and the teller tells me that they cant deposit it because the check is from UP NORTH and not sure if its USD. They will have to send it to the back office to process and they might put a hold on it. She wouldnt give me a time frame and said it could be available tomorrow, could take up to 30 days. I bank with a bank that rhymes with Pells MArgo.

Has anyone had this happen? When are the funds usually available in your account? They said it would not have to go to collections since ive been with them for over a year.
