Just to clarify my point. The provincial government where I reside, like the US gov't, is also making a play to get their piece of online poker profits. They recently launched a government run pokersite.

Not being able to get onto PS.com was just a shock, and it made me realize that Canada is likely to make a move to remove competition in online poker.

Likely huh? You must have an inside connection.

Is it possible years from now? Maybe. But if so, you'll have plenty of heads up if the Canadian federal government makes a move on online poker.

But the idea that it's something to be immediately concerned about is laughable and nothing short of fear mongering.

you can check out this thread but it isn't limited to quebec

Saying the federal government is likely to try to eliminate online poker because some provincial LCs are getting in on the action demonstrates a real lack of understanding of how our governments work.

Interesting read. http://www.pokerbloggs.com/2011/04/2...domains-part-1

I don't know the blogger and can't validate the claims. Anybody else?

I am able to register for the FTP's ME Race Finals tomorrow (~It's a freeroll ran by the .net). I have 3 tickets with no expiration date. I got'em by getting 3K ftps in a week. What is my play? I mean if I play, I'm obv binking, but it'd suck if the whole thing was like an FTP's glitch that they've overlooked in regards to U.S. players.

The site is playnow.com. It is run by BC Lottery Corporation which is a crown corporation. According to google, residents of BC and Quebec are allowed to play on it.

I said "eliminate competition". Not eliminate online poker.

You're good at twisting words around, so why don't you twist your case as to why companies such as FTP and Pokerstars will be left alone to collect enourmous rents in Canada?

it's on you to prove that case to everybody else, not on me to disprove it.

Other people have already flagged this as scaremongering, so it's not absolutely necessary to repeat this - but I was just wondering if you were the source of the information on Black Friday that all the sites would be down, and out of business, within 48 hours?

Word is Phil Ivey wants to know why it has to be called "Black" Friday.

Go back and read the first few pages of the thread. Various people were pointing out that the .com websites would be down for everyone within 48 hours, and they were. For the non-tech savvy and already panicked this simple got misconstrued.

lol - I read those pages as they came out, and the ones later with the clarification; that statement, or more specifically people's doom-laden interpretation of it, were just what sprang to mind after reading NickyC's post

While it is great news the US players will be "allowed" to cash out by the
DOJ,.....is anyone else also offended by the farce of it all?

Considering the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) makes
fund transfers to and from gambling (poker) sites illegal when US banks are
involved,........it strikes me as a bit outrageous that the DOJ can turn on and off the "illegality" of the law at will.

As bad and unfair as the initial passing of UIGEA was, to then control the
poker sites as puppets and now allow the US players the return of their
balances seems a bit of a slap in the face. "It's illegal when we SAY it's
illegal,......and legal when WE say it is!"

Just another example of big brother exerting it's muscle to get what it ultimately wants,.......total control, including the eventual financial "sharing" of the proceeds.

..........isn't that what has always been the motive?

.......so sick.

You just proved that you're a joke and nothing more than a loser troll.

Can't bring it, can't take it, and nothing compelling to say.

Too bad because I assumed you had an understanding of how governments work and the various strategies that countries may be thinking of in terms of regulating online poker.
