We were thinking about all of the moniez that the idiots were shipping us. Limit was HUGE back then.

Some other random things:

Randomly hearing "The brown trout sleeps in the closet" in live games.

Empire Poker's ridiculous FPP calculation, which involved something odd like the square root of the number of hands you played that day.

Poker Stars reload MARCH

Depositing on PartyPoker by buying a phone card and calling some random number that "charged" a huge amount just to connect, after which that amount would magically appear in my account.

PartyPoker routinely announcing a deposit bonus effective midnight on a certain date, the cashier routinely crashing by 12:10 on that day, and 15 different "WTF where is my bonus?" threads being started in the Zoo by 12:11.

Casino bonuses where the playthrough was 3X.

Integrity Casinos going belly-up after some idiot posted in the Zoo about how easy their signup bonus was to clear, thus causing a bazillion Zoo geeks to hit up the bonus.

True story: I cashed in one of these by forgetting to show up. I registered, totally forgot about it, and ended up getting blinded out in around 28th place and winning $1.

i remember when 30/60 limit holdem was first introduced on party and some of my friends used to play, there would be at least 3-4 60/10 guys per table but i still felt like there must be a catch, those guys must know something i don't, there was no way people would be illogical enough to play that bad for that much money...

also 2004ish party had a christmas eve freeroll for the 2000 players who generated the most rake in the month beforehand, all automatically entered into the tournament whether they were at their computers or not. i guess probably 300-400 people actually played the tourney the rest were empty seats, i got 4th for $5k but cashed out the money and spent it on random stuff instead of using it to move up from 3/6 limit because i just didn't believe that people could be crazy enough to be donating money at 5/10 and above...

also pre-moneymaker i used to love phil hellmuth's website, when he would get guest pros to write articles every week, telling the world about up and coming under-rated players like ivey, how under-rated young guns like huck seed and layne flack were... i thought all that stuff was so amazing, would check every couple of days to see if there was a new story up.

& when schneids won that huge limit holdem WPT on the party poker cruise, it felt like all of us young 2+2ers had really achieved something, and stamped our influence on the poker world in an undeniable, meaningful way... raymer winning wsop was like this too, but i remember feeling like schneids winning really proved something as he was just a kid training up through posting hands on 2+2, like there was no limit to how good we could get even just from learning online

I was actually going to put that in the list in my OP, but didn't think anyone would remember it.

Palying somewhat close to that way made me a monster in the old school live limit games, even though we al laughed at him, and he got mocked relentlessly fo it on RGP.

I sometimes think this was the larva of the current Game Optimal strategy now being utilized in Modern "Solved" LHE.

it would say stuff like "the normal player tells his friend 'hey, your cards are exposed.'" the "XYZ" player secretly makes sure to sit next to them at future poker games.

it was just a bunch of ways that this type of player would get an edge over the normal donk player of the day. some of the stuff was blatant cheating i think. i remember thinking "this is ridiculous, is that what poker games are like???"

sorry this is a terrible description but it's all i've got.
I remember a book that was scanned and available online for free about winning at poker, looks to have been written in the 70s, and it was full of shady advice like this.

The one line I remember was something like "Mike chomped down on his turkey sandwich, mayonnaise oozing out of the sides, and John secretly notes the cards which have mayonnaise on them for future use."

I dug around google books and couldn't find it. It had a home game poker table on the cover with a bunch of 70s guys playing with chips and 100s and 20s in the pot.

Oh the day that Party cut off Empire was like the original Black Friday for 2p2 - at the time you could only play 4 tables (I think) at once on Party, so just about everyone also had an account at Empire to play another 4 or 6 or something. As well, many people only had rakeback at Empire and couldn't get it at Party. On some random day, Party just cut Empire out of the network with no warning.

Square root of the hands = LOL sooooo funny

For MTTs it was the opposite. So if you played in like 10 mtts in 1 day, you earned more points then 1 mtt for 10 days str8.

I once played 24 hours str8 and played every mtt because I was so close to the royal flush club or whatever it was called. I was like 2 months away from getting it before it closed down.

I WANT MY FREE T.V. (had a few friends get the free t.v......so baller)

The book is "Poker, a Guaranteed Income for Life." The author, Frank R. Wallace, died in 2006 and I don't believe it's still available for free on the web any more. His site was neo-tech.com but I remember several years ago noticing the book was no longer available on the site, and I couldn't find it there when I just looked.

I remember when Party had Limit sit n goes. They used to have bad filters so the limit games were bunched in with the no limit games. A third of the players at the sng would be there by accident, thinking that it was no limit, which resulted in them being on monkey tilt and capping everything.

God I miss those days.

I remember on Party Poker that if you typed the word jew you could follow it with any profanity of your choice. It was a pretty bizarre way to override the profanity filter and was disabled as soon as it became somewhat known.

For the record I was one of the people who emailed Party and asked them to get rid of this.
