I gamed this so hard setting up accounts for a few friends. I wound up screwing up the bet and making a bet against another person instead of with the site per the stipulations of the promo and had a huge chunk of my roll at risk instead of being able to arb the whole deal and scoop like $467 in free money per account. It was absolutely the most exciting 15 minutes of TV in my life. Like 4 turnovers in the last 2 minutes of the game. Amazing! I wound up making like 4k on that game (1k due to a betting mistake) when my roll was only 15k or so.

Then Roethlisberger had some last second injury and the line dropped to like 3 points as Charlie Batch was going to play. So the game is underway, and the Steelers are leading by 4 with just a few minutes left, and the Dolphins have the ball. Early adopters are crying as it seemed they had no chance - either Miami would score and win, or they would not score and Steelers would kneel it out. However, instead, Joey Porter scored on a pick-6 with 2 mins left and covered for like half of 2p2. The sweat thread on it was incredible.

As well, many people only had rakeback at Empire and couldn't get it at Party. On some random day, Party just cut Empire out of the network with no warning.
This was devastating to me. But, it enabled new accounts and new bonus whoring!

Within my first week playing poker I figured out you could deposit through Netteller without it hitting your account for like 5 business days, I gave myself multiple "loans", oh to be 17 again....

-When poker rooms were started by initially inserting a CD into the computer. They also came in the form of junk mail like the old AOL CD's.

-Hand histories and basic poker chat done on AOL AIM.

-Thinking expert advice was Phil Gordon on Celebrity Poker on Bravo or some similar channel.

-Not liking 2p2 because the message board format was such it only showed a post at a time (the old board format and me being too dumb to figure out to change the display mode)

On a side note, since he may see this. A guy with an AOL name of Ansheepdog84, or something like that, introduced me to this site and actually took me under his wing from a Myspace poker group back in 04 or 05. I actually still have the note pad paper where I wrote down the instructions to set up Net Teller, how to set up bonus/rakeback whoring, and some old school books to get started. PM me if you are still around.

Acey-Ducey turns into a sick game because some splits that look good really aren't.
If it's the first hand of a new shuffle, A(high)-6 is just about break even, because of the fact that an A or 6 will make you pay double.

Neteller was awesome!
Stars debit card was pretty sweet for a little while as well...

I remember playing on Jetsetpoker with Thayer. Taking my whole roll to 1/2 nl (biggest game on the site) and owning the table for a couple buyins. Then immediately withdrawing everything but $100 to Neteller because I didn't trust the online pokers.

dynamitepoker, americascardroom, etc..etc

I learned to play 7 stud in the 80's and hearing stories about Doyle and others from my uncle who works in the oil fields in Texas...

My first game in Vegas was 1-4 5-card stud with a dime ante at the Mint.

I saw the GrassRoots in 1968. The warm-up act was Woody Allen!

Benny Binion sent me to see Bill Boyd at the Golden Nugget when I was 21. I got a job as a shill, playing poker on house money. Most of what I played was $1 limit five stud with the worst rake of all time. These were called "snatch games." I also played in the six dollar limit razz which had a lone 25 cent rake. Win or lose, I made $1 an hour and was paid in silver dollars. We'd hang in this really crazy bar where beers were a dime.

now that up there ^^^ is old school.

I remember.

* getting kicked out of the 5-10 limit game at the Taj because of ID issues.
* playing the pink chip game at the trop after that. so much fun.
* 75% of the tables were stud at both places.
* people tipping with the 50 cent coins at the LLHE games in downtown LV
* mayfair and diamond club being open , and again, mostly stud.
* paradise, poker.com and planet poker being the go to place
* when pokerstars went from all play money tables to real money action.
* having poker on cable tv maybe twice a year, looking at tv guide once a month and being disappointed.

there is also something to be said when you were able to smoke, came in handy with big decisions.

Ha ha Myrna! The pink chip game at the Trop? Wow does that ever bring back some donktastically good memories. Now Limit Holdem is dead and the Trop is a ****hole.

Actually, the Trop has always been a ****hole, so I suppose that some things never change.

Going to Vegas for the first time and staying at the Mirage because Rounders

When's party poker's biggest NL game was 2-4NL with 200 max buy in.

i remember playing the 109 FOs on UB and checking Mindwise's leaderboard on his website to see where I was.

Being american and getting to play on WilliamHill. Playing elky 3/6 and 5/10nl on stars.

Prior to Moneymaker, or popular on-line poker, I was playing 3/6 limit at a bingo hall in WNY. They had 3 tables right in the middle of a slot parlor. These games were some of the craziest I've ever seen. Eight and nine way capped flops were not uncommon. Three and four player showdowns were the norm. A big pot was at least $300. If I only I knew then what I know now...

joining 2+2 in like '99. a few months later they switched to new signups where you got a number, and since i hadn't been to the forums in a couple months i got 175 or something and was irritated about it. half of the posters were Bay Area locals, many BARGErs, and it was great to meet them at the local casinos.

playing stud and limit hold'em, especially $1-$5 stud in Reno in the 90s. a bow to Abdul, who was the shiz, and Tommy Angelo and soon after ClarkNasty and a bunch of others in the limit forums. also natedogg in the nl forums and ray zee in everything.

Russ G. being right about a ton of his ravings on cheating.

hearing again and again from Mason and several others that no-limit was bad for casinos because all the fish would go broke too quickly.

cutting my no limit teeth in the 10-10-20, 40 to go game at Lucky Chances in 2000, getting my butt kicked, being super impressed by Bobby Hoff, watching Bobby's play closely to imitate, and everyone thinking it was nosebleed stakes.

drinks on Paradise Poker.

Ulysses before he became El Diablo.

PartyPoker opening up 5-10 nl in '04. it was like a storm where $20 bills fell like raindrops, making $400/hr for months playing a ridiculous numbers of hands/hour because we played FOUR tables, pissed at toothpicky for being the only person with > 2000 hands with me who beat me. during this paying $1600 cash for two 21-inch monitors and debating with the sales guy for several minutes whether i needed three, deciding against because i had no clue whether my motherboard had two graphics card slots, then the look on his face when i said startled and said oh yeah what's your best tv and bought a 2K plasma in two more minutes. fuggit it was poker money.

taking notes like "will 3-bet QQ" on PartyPoker.

beating the breath out of good2cu in late 2004 in 6-max 10-20nl on Empire and him complaining (politely) how lucky i was.

those glorious miniview tables of 25-50nl on UltimateBet.

good times.
