Now, again with a show of hands, how many of you made life changing money because of the fish who came to try and beat you because of the ESPN coverage.

I bet the ones that still want to complain about Harrahs and ESPN haven't had their hands up yet.

People who complain because Harrahs and ESPN are trying to get the most viewers and most advertising money and make the most profit so that Poker can be as main stream as possible, need to *****. (I guess your next complaint will be how much you hate Google for trying to maximize profits for giving us the best search engine!)
So basically what you are saying is that the way ESPN used to do things was brilliant and we all have them to thank for that?

So why mess with it?

genius

also, did chainsaw gloss himself the chainsaw name? and if so, why are people allowed to give themselves nicknames and get away with it?

kessler reminds me more of an 85 year old man sitting in a retirement home complaining about how things were always much better "back in the day"

alan "grumpy old man" kessler?

So because VHS was the bomb, we should never have created DVDs either?
How about HD? Sheesh , why even bother with color TV at all.

[X] people are afraid of change ITT

Same reason every fishy who signs up for an online account is concerned about cash out problems. They just KNOW it will affect them eventually.

Yeah... There's so much more skill in poker when play is continuous....

can someone explain why this is even a new issue?

remember the old days before the Nov 9 thing happened? waaay back in ancient times in 2007... when they played the final table in July and broadcast it in November

so by "this year more than ever" you mean "more than last year"??

last time i was surprised by the main event winner was when Yang won it... and thats because i watched it live on PPV

What are the odds if Ivey wins you'll see a Fulltilt commercial praising his victory in the middle of the final table/heads up coverage?

Other things to avoid if you don't want to know the winner....

Every twitter feed. Don't go on Pokerroad's Twitter update page, don't go to twitter.com in case it's a trending topic, avoid ESPN tweets, plus those of bluff magazine, pokernews, pokerstars, Pokerstars blog, Pauly of Tao of Poker... You get the idea.

Avoid Facebook just in case you come across an update there.

Definitely stay away from any e-mail inbox that you get mails from any site sponsoring a final table player.

Basically, go nowhere near a computer or TV if you really don't want to be spoiled. Don't read any newspapers or listen to the radio.

I'm hoping for a particularly fascinating thread about WPT structures that will take all of our attention for 24 hours, capped off by AK finally admitting that his whole life has been one big level.

All of 2+2 exits the thread just in time for the HU coverage to start.

I don't see how this stoppage in play improves the coverage and it further damages the integrity of the event.

How is coverage going to improve? If ESPN films the final table to conclusion on the 7th, they have a known result and more time to edit it "properly" to provide a quality broadcast. Nothing is gained television wise by stopping the event when heads-up. ESPN has their 2+ hour window for broadcast on the 10th and that's it. It does suck the audience into a theatre for a second day, so maybe the concession people profit.

The integrity issues are potentially enormous.

First of all, there IS momentum in poker tournaments that runs in both directions. To be a player (especially an amateur) running hot and having to stop before say going heads-up against an established pro, who may or may not be leaking some oil at the moment is a BIG disadvantage. Yes, the reverse could be true and the break may allow an amateur to compose himself. I would think that a composed pro will have a bigger edge over a composed amateur.

In addition, the day off provides either of the two players the time to acquire information about the other before going heads-up. This is not an equal opportunity. The pros (especially the Vegas based ones) will have numerous contacts and observers/coaches watching the final table and the time to consult with them privately. The other players simply will not have an equivalent support network. I would not be surprised if someone could get access to the hole-card tapings of the final table from the previous day.

The point is that NO ONE should be able to gain an edge from outside sources during a final table. It's ridiculous now when a player consults with his "friends" on the rail.

This arrangement provides an advantage to the established pros, which is probably why it went through in the first place. Ivey and Shulman/Hellmuth have as good of a set-up as they can hope for.

IMO, it's more fun to listen to it live on the interwebs than to watch only the key hands espn shows. You get to hear every hand take place and the table talk that goes along with it and that's pretty cool to listen to, at least that's what my roomates and I agree on after listening to it last year.
